Flurina Rothenberger & collaborations
L'Appartement gibt Flurina Rothenberger eine Carte blanche. Die in der Schweiz geborene und in der Elfenbeinküste aufgewachsene Künstlerin verbringt den Großteil ihrer Karriere damit, ihren Wahlkontinent zu fotografieren, und zeigt anhand einer individuellen Erzählung und einer kooperativen künstlerischen Praxis, dass Afrika eine vielfältige Realität ist.
Flurina Rothenberger bespielt alle Räume von L'Appartement, respektiert deren Besonderheiten und entfaltet dort ihre Projekte im Zeichen der Zusammenarbeit.
DIE ZIMMER: NICE & UNFOLDED
Eine Zeitschrift kann gleichzeitig ein öffentlicher Raum, ein Ausstellungsraum und ein Lernraum sein. Die drei Ausgaben von The Nice Magazine verweisen auf das vielfältige Potenzial von Verlagsprojekten. Auf Initiative von Flurina Rothenberger und Rahel Arnold haben sich kreative Menschen zu einem Redaktionskollektiv zusammengeschlossen und Fotografie, Journalismus, visuelle Gestaltung und soziale Arbeit miteinander verbunden. Dieser kollaborative Ansatz ist charakteristisch für Rothenbergers gesamte künstlerische Praxis. Seine Fotografien, die in verschiedenen afrikanischen Ländern entstanden sind, bilden einen visuellen Essay. Monika Schoris räumliche Intervention verändert die Perspektive, je nachdem, wo wir uns als Betrachter/in befinden.
DAS WOHNZIMMER: PATHÉ'O
Pathé'O ist ein groß angelegtes Verlagsprojekt, das die Geschichte der Mode und der Textilindustrie in Westafrika anhand der Biografie des ivorisch-burkinischen Designers und Schneiders Pathé'O nachzeichnet. Die Ausstellung zeigt einen Auszug aus dem Buch, das 2022 bei Edition Patrick Frey erscheinen wird, und konzentriert sich auf die Arbeiten von Flurina Rothenberger im Dialog mit Archivbildern des burkinischen Fotografen und Journalisten Ben Idriss Zoungrana.
KINO: N'ZASSA
Die Elfenbeinküste nimmt in der internationalen Slam-Szene eine führende Rolle ein. Unter der Leitung von Flurina Rothenberger und dem ivorischen Dichter Bee Joe haben Fotografiestudierende des CEPV eine Woche lang aus der Ferne und im Duett mit Slammern aus Abidjan an der Kreation von visuellen Gedichten gearbeitet. Durch den Austausch von Worten und Bildern vermischten sich die kreativen Disziplinen, um in einer Reihe von rohen und rhythmischen Videos zu erblühen.

Vier Kinder im Alter von fünf bis zehn Jahren schlüpften in die Rolle von Kuratoren, um gemeinsam eine Reihe von Fotografien auszuwählen, die Flurina Rothenberger auf ihrer Reise durch Afrika gemacht hatte. Vierzehn Bilder mit Kommentaren, die ihre Auswahl begründen, sind in einer speziell für Kinder konzipierten Hängung zusammengefasst.
L’Appartement donne carte blanche à Flurina Rothenberger. Née en Suisse, elle grandit en Côte d’Ivoire et passe la majeure partie de sa carrière à photographier son continent d’adoption.
Au travers d’un récit individuel et d’une pratique artistique coopérative, elle démontre que l’Afrique est une réalité multiple.
Flurina Rothenberger investit toutes les pièces de L’Appartement en respectant leurs particularités et y déploie ses projets placés sous le signe de la collaboration.
LES CHAMBRES: NICE & UNFOLDED
Un magazine peut être à la fois un espace public, d’exposition et d’apprentissage. Les trois numéros de The Nice Magazine évoquent ce potentiel multiple propre aux projets d’édition. À l’initiative de Flurina Rothenberger et de Rahel Arnold, des créatif·ve·s se sont réuni·e·s en collectif éditorial et ont mêlé photographie, journalisme, conception visuelle et action sociale. Cette démarche collaborative caractérise toute la pratique artistique de Rothenberger. Ses photographies, réalisées dans différents pays africains, forment un essai visuel. L’intervention spatiale de Monika Schori transforme notre perspective en fonction de notre position en tant que spectateur·rice.
LE SALON: PATHÉ’O
Projet éditorial de grande envergure, Pathé’O retrace l’histoire de la mode et de l’industrie du textile en Afrique de l’Ouest au travers de la biographie du styliste et couturier ivoiro-burkinabé Pathé’O. L’exposition préfigure un extrait du livre à paraître en 2022 chez Edition Patrick Frey et met l’accent sur les travaux de Flurina Rothenberger en dialogue avec des images d’archives du photographe et journaliste burkinabé Ben Idriss Zoungrana.
LE CINEMA: N’ZASSA
La Côte d’Ivoire occupe une place prépondérante sur la scène internationale du slam. Sous la direction de Flurina Rothenberger et du poète ivoirien Bee Joe, le temps d’une semaine, des étudiant·e·s en photographie du CEPV ont travaillé à distance et en duo avec des slameur·euse·s abidjanais·e·s à la création de poèmes visuels. Par un jeu d’échanges de mots et d’images, les disciplines créatives se sont mélangées pour éclore en une série de vidéos brutes et rythmées.

Quatre enfants âgé·e·s de cinq à dix ans se sont glissé·e·s dans la peau de commissaires d’exposition pour sélectionner ensemble une série de photographies réalisées par Flurina Rothenberger à travers l’Afrique. Quatorze images accompagnées de commentaires justifiant leurs choix sont rassemblées dans un accrochage conçu spécialement pour les enfants.
L'Appartement dà carta bianca a Flurina Rothenberger. Nata in Svizzera, è cresciuta in Costa d'Avorio e ha passato la maggior parte della sua carriera a fotografare il suo continente d'adozione.
Flurina Rothenberger utilizza tutte le stanze de L'Appartement nel rispetto delle loro particolarità e realizza i suoi progetti in modo collaborativo.
LE CAMERE: BELLE E DISPIEGATE
Una rivista può essere uno spazio pubblico, uno spazio espositivo e uno spazio di apprendimento. I tre numeri di The Nice Magazine evocano le molteplici potenzialità dei progetti editoriali. Su iniziativa di Flurina Rothenberger e Rahel Arnold, i creativi si sono riuniti in un collettivo editoriale e hanno combinato fotografia, giornalismo, visual design e azione sociale. Questo approccio collaborativo caratterizza l'intera pratica artistica di Rothenberger. Le sue fotografie, scattate in vari paesi africani, formano un saggio visivo. L'intervento spaziale di Monika Schori trasforma la nostra prospettiva a seconda della nostra posizione di spettatori.

Pathé'O è un progetto editoriale su larga scala che traccia la storia della moda e dell'industria tessile in Africa occidentale attraverso la biografia dello stilista ivoriano-burkinabé Pathé'O. La mostra prefigura un estratto del libro che sarà pubblicato nel 2022 da Edition Patrick Frey e si concentra sul lavoro di Flurina Rothenberger in dialogo con immagini d'archivio del fotografo e giornalista burkinabé Ben Idriss Zoungrana.

La Costa d'Avorio è un giocatore importante sulla scena internazionale dello slam. Sotto la direzione di Flurina Rothenberger e del poeta ivoriano Bee Joe, gli studenti di fotografia del CEPV hanno lavorato a distanza e in duo con gli slammer di Abidjan per creare poesie visive. Attraverso uno scambio di parole e immagini, le discipline creative si sono mescolate per creare una serie di video crudi e ritmici.

Quattro bambini tra i cinque e i dieci anni si sono messi nei panni dei curatori per selezionare insieme una serie di fotografie scattate da Flurina Rothenberger in tutta l'Africa. Quattordici immagini accompagnate da commenti che giustificano le loro scelte sono riunite in un display progettato appositamente per i bambini.
L’Appartement has given free rein to photographer Flurina Rothenberger. Born in Switzerland and raised in Ivory Coast, she has devoted most of her career to taking photographs of the continent where she grew up. Her personal narrative and cooperative artistic practice demonstrate Africa’s multiple reality. She has taken over every room, while respecting their specific uses, to exhibit a series of projects in which collaboration is key.
LES CHAMBRES: NICE & UNFOLDED
A magazine can be a public space, a gallery, and an academy, all in one. NICE elicits this diverse potential unique to editorials. Flurina Rothenberger and Rahel Arnold gave the impetus for each of its three issues, bringing creatives together to combine their photography, journalism, visual design and social action as an editorial collective. This collaborative approach typifies Rothenberger’s entire artistic practice. Her photographs, taken in Ivory Coast and South Africa, form a visual essay. Monika Schori’s spatial intervention transforms our gaze, depending on where we position ourselves as viewers.
LE SALON: PATHÉ’O
Pathé’Os is a large-scale editorial project tracing the history of fashion and the textile industry in West Africa through the biography of Pathé’O, an Ivorian Burkinabe fashion designer and couturier. The exhibition preludes a book to be published in 2022 by Edition Patrick Frey and presents the work of Flurina Rothenberger in dialogue with archival images by the Burkinabe photographer and journalist Ben Idriss Zoungrana.

Ivory Coast is a major world player in slam poetry. Under the guidance of Flurina Rothenberger and the Ivorian poet Bee Joe, CEPV photography students worked remotely in tandem with slammers in Abidjan to create visual poems. As they swapped words and images, their creative disciplines merged to hatch a series of raw rhythmic videos.

Four children aged between five and ten years old took on the role of curators to collectively choose a series of Flurina Rothenberger’s photographs taken throughout Africa. A display designed especially for children showcases their selection of fourteen images together with their explanations for their choices.
