Träume vom Glück und vom Reichtum führen seit hunderten von Jahren Menschen aus der ganzen Welt in die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Die weitläufigen Landschaften und pulsierenden Metropolen wurden für viele zu Sehnsuchtsorten, an denen alles möglich erschien. Hier waren die Gebäude riesig, das Land unermesslich und dementsprechend auch die Möglichkeiten auf ein anderes Leben unbegrenzt. Nicht alle dieser Träume wurden wahr, aber die darin enthaltene Hoffnung verband sich mit der Wahrnehmung des Staates, dem »Land der Hoffnung und des Ruhmes« (»land of hope and glory«), wie es in der Nationalhymne heißt.
In seiner Serie ›Land of Dreams‹ dokumentiert Elmar Haardt diese Landschaften. Er zeigt den Traum, den diese Gegenden bedeuten, in allen Einzelheiten und in der Realität. Von einer erhöhten Position aus richtet er den Blick seiner großformatigen Kamera auf die Landschaft und fotografiert diese in vielen Teilaufnahmen, die er nachträglich am Computer zu einem Ganzen zusammenfügt. Durch dieses Verfahren erzielt er einen enormen Detailreichtum und auch eine durchgängige Schärfe, welche die Betrachter*innen in das Bild eintauchen lassen. Elmar Haardts Fotografien sind genaue Studien über den Zustand des Landes. Seiner Kamera entgeht nichts, keine zerstörte Natur, keine Industriebrache und keine Ruine – und was auf den ersten Blick wie Landschaftsfotografie erscheint, ist eine präzise Analyse der amerikanischen Gesellschaft.
Elmar Haardt wurde 1974 in Essen geboren. Er studierte von 1996 bis 1998 Empirische Kulturwissenschaft und Amerikanistik an der Eberhard-Karls-Universität in Tübingen, von 1998 bis 2003 Europäischen Ethnologie, Soziologie und Philosophie an der Humboldt-Universität in Berlin und von 2003 bis 2006 Fotografie an der von Arno Fischer gegründeten Fotoschule »Fotografie am Schiffbauerdamm«, Berlin. Er lebt in Berlin.
Depuis des centaines d'années, des rêves de bonheur et de richesse ont conduit des gens du monde entier aux États-Unis d'Amérique. Les vastes paysages et les métropoles vibrantes sont devenus pour beaucoup des lieux de nostalgie où tout semblait possible. Ici, les bâtiments étaient gigantesques, les terres immenses et, par conséquent, les possibilités d'une autre vie illimitées. Tous ces rêves ne se sont pas réalisés, mais l'espoir qu'ils contenaient s'est associé à la perception de l'État, le "pays de l'espoir et de la gloire" ("land of hope and glory"), comme le dit l'hymne national.Dans sa série 'Land of Dreams', Elmar Haardt documente ces paysages. Il montre le rêve que représentent ces régions, dans les moindres détails et dans la réalité. Depuis une position élevée, il dirige le regard de son appareil photo grand format sur le paysage et le photographie en de nombreuses prises de vue partielles qu'il assemble ensuite sur ordinateur pour former un tout. Grâce à ce procédé, il obtient une énorme richesse de détails et une netteté constante, qui permettent au spectateur de s'immerger dans l'image. Les photographies d'Elmar Haardt sont des études précises sur l'état du pays. Rien n'échappe à son appareil photo, pas une nature détruite, pas une friche industrielle, pas une ruine - et ce qui apparaît à première vue comme une photographie de paysage est une analyse précise de la société américaine.
Elmar Haardt est né en 1974 à Essen. Il a étudié les sciences culturelles empiriques et les études américaines à l'université Eberhard-Karls de Tübingen de 1996 à 1998, l'ethnologie européenne, la sociologie et la philosophie à l'université Humboldt de Berlin de 1998 à 2003 et la photographie à l'école de photographie "Fotografie am Schiffbauerdamm" de Berlin, fondée par Arno Fischer, de 2003 à 2006. Il vit à Berlin.
I sogni di felicità e ricchezza hanno portato persone da tutto il mondo negli Stati Uniti d'America per centinaia di anni. I vasti paesaggi e le metropoli pulsanti divennero per molti luoghi di desiderio, dove tutto sembrava possibile. Qui, gli edifici erano enormi, la terra incommensurabile e, di conseguenza, le possibilità di una vita diversa illimitate. Non tutti questi sogni si sono avverati, ma la speranza che contenevano era legata alla percezione dello stato, la "terra della speranza e della gloria", come dice l'inno nazionale.Nella sua serie 'Land of Dreams', Elmar Haardt documenta questi paesaggi. Mostra il sogno che queste zone rappresentano, in tutti i suoi dettagli e la sua realtà. Da una posizione elevata, dirige la vista della sua macchina fotografica di grande formato sul paesaggio e lo fotografa in molti scatti parziali, che poi combina in un tutto al computer. Dreams of happiness and wealth have led people from all over the world to the United States of America for hundreds of years. The vast landscapes and pulsating metropolises became places of longing for many, where everything seemed possible. Here, the buildings were huge, the land immeasurable and, accordingly, the possibilities for a different life unlimited. Not all of these dreams came true, but the hope they contained connected with the perception of the state, the "land of hope and glory" as the national anthem says.In his series 'Land of Dreams' Elmar Haardt documents these landscapes. He shows the dream that these areas mean, in all details and in reality. From an elevated position, he directs the gaze of his large-format camera onto the landscape and photographs it in many partial shots, which he subsequently combines into a whole on the computer. Through this process, he achieves an enormous richness of detail and also a consistent sharpness that immerse the viewer in the image. Elmar Haardt's photographs are precise studies of the state of the country.
