Die Leica Galerie Salzburg präsentiert mit " The Legendary Photography of Douglas Kirkland" eine Ausstellung, die einen spannenden Einblick in die Karriere des sehr bekannten kanadischen Fotografen Douglas Kirkland gibt, der im Jahr 2022 verstorben ist.
Kirkland ist berühmt für seine Porträts von Prominenten wie Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepurn, Coco Chanel, Jack Nicholson uvm . Seine Fotografien zeichnen sich durch eine einzigartige Mischung aus technischer Perfektion und emotionalem Ausdruck aus.
Die Ausstellung zeigt eine umfassende Auswahl von Kirklands bekanntesten Arbeiten und ist eine Hommage an seine Karriere als Fotograf. Die Besucherinnen und Besucher erwartet eine fotografische Zeitreise durch eine Welt voller Prominenz aus Film-, Show- und Musikbusiness.
Kirkland, geboren 1934 in Toronto, begann seine Fotografenlaufbahn im Alter von 24 Jahren als Staff Photographer beim US-Magazin Look. Seine weltweit bekannte Serie "Eine Nacht mit Marilyn" entstand im Jahr 1961 für Look, gefolgt von einer Serie über Coco Chanel im Jahr 1962. Kirkland war auch als Special Photographer bei über 150 Filmproduktionen engagiert (2001: Odysee im Weltall, Saturday Night Fever, Titanic uvm) und erhielt für sein Lebenswerk als Still Photographer zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. 2019 wurde er im Dokumentarfilm "That Click" gewürdigt.
Françoise Kirkland, seit 1967 mit Douglas Kirkland verheiratet, war bis zu seinem Tod an seiner Seite und hat schon immer sein Archiv verwaltet. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass sie uns einen sehr persönlichen Einblick in das Werk ihres Mannes geben wird.

Françoise Kirkland, marié à Douglas Kirkland depuis 1967, a été à ses côtés jusqu'à sa mort et a toujours géré ses archives. Nous sommes très heureux qu'elle nous donne un aperçu très personnel de l'œuvre de son mari.
