"Rosso Sahel" ist das visuelle Tagebuch meiner Reise nach Niger im Jahr 2022 als Fotograf und Mitglied des technisch-wissenschaftlichen Komitees des Pavillons der Republik Niger auf der Architekturbiennale 2023 in Venedig.
"Rosso Sahel" ist sowohl ein visuelles als auch ein inneres Tagebuch, in dem die Bilder, die absoluten Protagonisten des Projekts, lebendig und hautnah sind, heiß und in der ersten Person aufgenommen. Die kurzen Texte, die sie begleiten, sind dem Tagebuch entnommen, das ich an Bord des Geländewagens geführt habe, kurz nachdem die Bilder aufgenommen wurden.
Die Reise nach Niger war anstrengend und intensiv für mich, nicht so sehr wegen der materiellen Bedingungen, die sich so sehr von denen unterscheiden, an die wir in Europa gewöhnt sind, sondern vor allem, weil ich ständig in Situationen der Not und der Armut eingetaucht bin. Ich habe die Privilegien, die ich in diesem Moment genoss, ständig und deutlich wahrgenommen, fast ohne es zu merken: eine Klimaanlage zu benutzen, ein kaltes Getränk aus der Dose zu trinken, gute Schuhe zu tragen, zu wissen, dass es immer eine Alternative gab.
Das Projekt bietet dem Besucher eher eine empathische als eine ästhetische Beziehung zu den Bildern. "Rosso Sahel" ist eine Einladung, Fotografie und Bilder als Gelegenheit zu nutzen, um eine innere Reise zu unternehmen und sich zu fragen, wie wir das Beste aus der Alternative machen können, die uns glücklicherweise zur Verfügung steht.
"Rosso Sahel" ist auch ein Buch, das im Pavillon der Republik Niger auf der Architekturbiennale 2023 in Venedig ausgestellt wird.
"Rosso Sahel" est le journal visuel du voyage que j'ai effectué au Niger en 2022 en tant que photographe et membre du comité technico-scientifique du Pavillon de la République du Niger à la Biennale d'Architecture de Venise 2023.
"Rosso Sahel" est un journal visuel et intérieur dans lequel les images, protagonistes absolus du projet, sont vives et rapprochées, prises à chaud et à la première personne. Les courts textes qui les accompagnent sont extraits du journal que j'ai tenu à bord du véhicule tout-terrain peu après la prise de vue.
Le voyage au Niger a été exigeant et intense pour moi, non pas tant en raison des conditions matérielles si différentes de celles auxquelles nous sommes habitués en Europe, mais surtout parce que j'ai été constamment immergé dans des situations de besoin et de pauvreté. Je percevais constamment et clairement les privilèges dont je jouissais à ce moment précis, presque sans m'en rendre compte : utiliser l'air conditionné, boire une boisson fraîche dans une canette, porter de bonnes chaussures, savoir qu'il y avait toujours une alternative disponible.
Le projet propose au visiteur une relation empathique plutôt qu'esthétique avec les images. "Rosso Sahel" est une invitation à utiliser la photographie et les images comme une opportunité de faire un voyage intérieur, de se demander comment tirer le meilleur parti de cette alternative que nous avons heureusement à notre disposition.
"Rosso Sahel" est également un livre exposé au Pavillon de la République du Niger à la Biennale d'architecture de Venise 2023.
“Rosso Sahel” è il diario visivo del viaggio che ho compiuto in Niger nel 2022 in qualità di fotografo e membro del comitato tecnico-scientifico del Padiglione della Repubblica del Niger alla Biennale di Architettura di Venezia 2023.
“Rosso Sahel” è un diario sia visivo che interiore in cui le immagini, assolute protagoniste del progetto, sono vivide e ravvicinate, scattate a caldo e in prima persona. I brevi testi che le accompagnano sono estrapolati dal diario che ho tenuto a bordo del fuoristrada poco dopo lo scatto delle immagini stesse.
Il viaggio in Niger è stato per me impegnativo e intenso, non tanto per le condizioni materiali così diverse da quelle a cui siamo abituati in Europa, ma soprattutto per il fatto di trovarmi costantemente immerso in situazioni di bisogno e di povertà. Ho percepito costantemente e con chiarezza i privilegi di cui stavo in quel preciso momento godendo, quasi senza accorgermene: utilizzare l’aria condizionata, il bere una bibita fresca in lattina, l'indossare delle buone scarpe, il sapere che c'era sempre un'alternativa a disposizione.
Il progetto propone al visitatore una relazione empatica più che estetica con le immagini. “Rosso Sahel” è un invito ad utilizzare la fotografia e le immagini come occasione per compiere un viaggio interiore, per chiedersi come sfruttare al meglio quell’alternativa che fortunatamente abbiamo a disposizione.
“Rosso Sahel” è anche un libro esposto presso il Padiglione della Repubblica del Niger alla Biennale di Architettura di Venezia 2023.
“Rosso Sahel” is the visual diary of the journey across Niger I undertook in 2022 as a photographer and member of the Technical Committee of the Republic of Niger Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale.
"Rosso Sahel" is both a visual and an inner diary in which the images, the absolute protagonists of the project, are vivid and close, shot in the heat of the moment and in first person. The short texts that accompany them are taken from the diary I kept aboard the off-road vehicle and written as soon as I finished taking the pictures.
I found the journey challenging and intense. Not just for the lack of material goods, such a different condition from what I'm used to as a European citizen, but above all for the fact that I found myself constantly immersed in an environment of need and poverty.
I constantly and clearly perceived the privileges I was enjoying at that very moment, privileges that I usually take for granted: air conditioning, drinking a cold can of soda, wearing good shoes, knowing that there is always an alternative available.
The project offers the visitor an empathic rather than aesthetic relationship with the images. "Rosso Sahel" is an invitation to use photography and images as an opportunity to take an inner journey, to ask ourselves how we can make the most of that alternative that we fortunately have available to us.
"Rosso Sahel" is also a self-published book exhibited at the Pavilion of the Republic of Niger Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale.
