Kochan ist ein Name. Die des Protagonisten von Bekenntnisse einer Maske (Yukio Mishima, 1949). Eine Art Reisebericht, der den Leser auf eine Entdeckungsreise zu Fragmenten des Lebens und der Identität des Protagonisten mitnimmt.
Kochan ist auch der Name des Fotoprojekts, das ich 2016 begann, als ich entdeckte, dass die New York Public Library einen großen Teil ihrer Archivdokumente online gestellt hatte. Die Rückgewinnung und Wiederverwendung von Materialien ist der Ausgangspunkt für meine künstlerische Forschung und Produktion. Die Arbeit mit Archivmaterial ermöglicht es mir, neue Universen zu schaffen und jedes Mal neue Geschichten zu erzählen, und sie ist eine echte Reise in das fotografische Bild. Ich verbrachte ganze Tage zwischen Karten, Manuskripten und Briefen. Aber es waren die Landkarten, die mich anzogen, und ich beschloss, sie, begleitet von ihren Zeichen und Spuren, mit einer Reihe von Selbstfotografien zu kombinieren. Ausgehend von Überlegungen zum Begriff der Identität habe ich in diesem Projekt wie Kochan versucht, mir die Reise vorzustellen, die jeder Mensch unternimmt, um sich selbst zu entdecken und zu bestätigen.
Indem ich den Körper als ein zu erforschendes Territorium betrachtete, wurde mir klar, dass nichts als endgültig angesehen werden kann: Grenzen werden neu gezogen, das physische Territorium unterliegt Veränderungen, ebenso wie unsere Einstellungen, Handlungen und Beziehungen zur Natur und zu den Menschen.
Kochan est un nom. Celle du protagoniste de Confessions d'un masque (Yukio Mishima, 1949). Une sorte de carnet de voyage, qui emmène le lecteur à la découverte de fragments de la vie et de l'identité du protagoniste.
Kochan est aussi le nom du projet photographique que j'ai lancé en 2016 lorsque j'ai découvert que la bibliothèque publique de New York avait mis en ligne une bonne partie de ses documents d'archives. La récupération et la réutilisation des matériaux sont le point de départ de ma recherche et de ma production artistiques. Le travail que je fais avec les archives me permet de créer de nouveaux univers et de raconter de nouvelles histoires à chaque fois, tout en étant un véritable voyage dans l'image photographique. J'ai passé des journées entières parmi les cartes, les manuscrits et les lettres. Mais ce sont les cartes qui m'ont attiré et, accompagné de leurs signes et de leurs traces, j'ai décidé de les combiner avec une série d'autoportraits. Partant de réflexions sur le concept d'identité, dans ce projet, j'ai essayé, comme Kochan, d'imaginer le parcours que chaque personne effectue pour se découvrir et s'affirmer.
En considérant le corps comme un territoire à explorer, je me suis rendu compte que rien ne peut être considéré comme définitif : les frontières sont redessinées, le territoire physique est sujet à changement, tout comme nos attitudes, nos actions et nos relations avec la nature et les gens.
Kochan è un nome. Quello del protagonista di Confessioni di una maschera (Yukio Mishima, 1949). Una sorta di diario di viaggio, che accompagna il lettore alla scoperta di frammenti di vita e identità del protagonista.
Kochan è anche il nome del progetto fotografico che ho iniziato nel 2016 quando ho scoperto che la New York Public Library aveva messo online una buona parte dei suoi documenti d’archivio. Il recupero e il riutilizzo di materiali sono il punto di partenza della mia ricerca e produzione artistica. Il lavoro che realizzo con i materiali d’archivio mi permette di creare nuovi universi e raccontare, ogni volta, nuove storie, oltre ad essere un vero e proprio viaggio nell’immagine fotografica. Ho trascorso giorni interi tra carte geografiche, manoscritti e lettere. Ma è dalle mappe che sono stata attratta e, accompagnata dai loro segni e dalle loro tracce, ho deciso di affiancarle ad una serie di autoscatti. Partendo da riflessioni sul concetto di identità, in questo progetto anche io, come Kochan, ho cercato di immaginare il viaggio che ogni persona compie per scoprire e affermare sé stesso.
Considerando il corpo come un territorio da esplorare, mi sono resa conto che nulla può essere considerato definitivo: i confini si ridisegnano, il territorio fisico è soggetto a cambiamenti così come i nostri atteggiamenti, le azioni ed il rapporto verso la natura e gli uomini.
Kochan is a name. That of the protagonist of Confessions of a Mask (Yukio Mishima, 1949). A kind of travelogue, it takes the reader on a discovery of fragments of the protagonist's life and identity.
Kochan is also the name of the photographic project I started in 2016 when I discovered that the New York Public Library had put a good portion of its archival records online. The recovery and reuse of materials are the starting point of my artistic research and production. The work I make with archival materials allows me to create new universes and tell, each time, new stories, as well as being a real journey in the photographic image. I spent whole days among maps, manuscripts and letters. But it was the maps that attracted me and, accompanied by their signs and traces, I decided to put them side by side with a series of self-shots. Starting from reflections on the concept of identity, in this project I also, like Kochan, tried to imagine the journey that each person makes to discover and affirm himself.
Considering the body as a territory to be explored, I realized that nothing can be considered definitive: boundaries redraw themselves, the physical territory is subject to change as well as our attitudes, actions and relationship toward nature and humans.
