Fünf Jahre nach seiner ersten Zusammenarbeit mit der Galerie C investiert Jean-Christophe Norman den Schweizer Raum mit einer Einzelausstellung. Diese Einladung bietet dem französischen Künstler die Gelegenheit, unveröffentlichte und ältere Arbeiten nebeneinander zu stellen. Die Skizze eines Abenteuers, die Erzählung eines Versuchs, die Welt zu berühren, die Erfahrung des Unerwarteten.
Um die Arbeit von Jean-Christophe Norman zu entdecken, muss man bereit sein, umherzuwandern. Denn wenn man sich darauf einlässt, zu wandern, zu segeln und zu fühlen, indem man die übliche Erfahrung der Zeit aufgibt, öffnet man sich natürlich der Welt, aber man macht auch einen ersten Schritt, um die Vorgehensweise des Künstlers zu verstehen. Denn das gesamte Werk von Jean-Christophe Norman beruht auf einer lebenswichtigen Intuition: das Unerwartete zu kultivieren.
Hier. Ein Jetzt, das aus dem Vorher und dem, was noch kommen kann, gewebt ist: eine Erinnerung, die nach dem Zeitgenössischen ruft. Jean-Christophe Norman lädt dazu ein, seine Arbeit zu erleben, mit dem Wunsch, uns die Reinheit zu schenken. Synthetisieren, schrieb Maurice Denis, bedeutet nicht unbedingt Vereinfachung im Sinne von Weglassen bestimmter Teile: Es bedeutet Vereinfachung im Sinne von Verständlichmachen. Mithilfe dieses einen Wortes, wie ein Dichter, das Absolute heraufbeschwören.
Das Wort verdichtet die Bewegung. Es ist die Bewegung, die den Künstler in Gang setzt. Durch die Bejahung fragt es: Wo sind wir? Wo? Wo existiert es, da wir sind, hartnäckig sind und waren? Das Werk von Jean-Christophe Norman enthält Texte und Erzählungen, die von anderswo herkommen und andere Stimmen als die des Künstlers tragen. Der Wunsch, das Gedächtnis zu bewohnen, ein Wiedererinnern der Zeit als Material, mit dem man experimentieren kann.

Cinq ans après sa première collaboration avec la Galerie C, Jean-Christophe Norman investit l’espace suisse avec une exposition personnelle. Cette invitation est l’opportunité pour l’artiste français de faire cohabiter travaux inédits et anciens. En effet, l’ensemble de l’oeuvre de Jean-Christophe Norman repose sur une intuition vitale: cultiver l’inopiné.
Là. Un maintenant tissé de l’avant et de ce qui peut se réaliser: une souvenance qui appelle le contemporain. Jean-Christophe Norman, invite à faire l’expérience de son travail avec le désir de nous offrir l’épure. Synthétiser écrivait Maurice Denis, ce n’est pas nécessairement simplifier dans le sens de supprimer certaines parties: c’est simplifier dans le sens de rendre intelligible. Au moyen de cette unique parole, à la manière d’un poète, convoquer l’absolu.

Le désir d’habiter la mémoire, un ressouvenir du temps comme matériau à expérimenter.

Avventurarsi alla scoperta dell'opera di Jean-Christophe Norman richiede la volontà di vagare. Accettare di camminare, di navigare, di sentire abbandonando l'esperienza abituale del tempo, è certamente aprirsi al mondo, ma è anche fare il primo passo verso la comprensione dell'approccio dell'artista. Attraverso il lavoro di Jean-Christophe Norman, i testi e le storie vengono da altrove, portando voci diverse da quella dell'artista. Il desiderio di abitare la memoria, un ricordo del tempo come materiale da sperimentare.
