Die Sammlung – das Fundament des Aargauer Kunsthauses – wächst dynamisch und vereint heute über 20 000 Werke der Schweizer Kunst vom 18. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart. Namhafte Schenkungen und Deposita – wie aus der Sammlung Ringier, der Bundeskunstsammlung, der Walter A. Bechtler-Stiftung oder von den Freunden der Aargauischen Kunstsammlung – haben in den letzten Jahren zur herausragenden Bedeutung der Sammlung in der europäischen Kunstlandschaft beigetragen. Diese Zugänge, darunter viele Arbeiten des zeitgenössischen Kunstschaffens, setzen frische Impulse und stellen überraschende Bezüge innerhalb der Bestände her.
In drei Kapiteln spannt die Ausstellung über die gesamte Fläche des Kunsthauses verteilt neue Erzählbögen. Davor · Darin · Danach. Die Sammlung im Wandel reflektiert die Vergangenheit, befragt die Gegenwart und wagt einen Blick in die Zukunft. Dabei wird mitunter lustvoll mit vertrauten chronologischen Ordnungsprinzipien gebrochen. Einhergehend mit der Auseinandersetzung rund um Raum und Zeitlichkeit verweist der Titel zugleich auf installative Fragestellungen, die in vielen der präsentierten Kunstwerke angelegt sind.
Bedeutende Neuzugänge treffen in ausdrucksstarker Setzung auf Schlüsselwerke der Gegenwartskunst seit den 1960-Jahren. Die Schau vereint Fotografie, Skulptur, Malerei, Video, Druckgrafik und Zeichnung mit raumgreifenden Installationen und ortsspezifischen Arbeiten, die für diesen Anlass neu geschaffen werden. Die Ausstellung gewährt einmalige Einblicke in die Bestände der umfassendsten öffentlichen Sammlung von Schweizer Kunst und lädt zu lebendigen Begegnungen und Neuentdeckungen in.
La collection – assise de l'Aargauer Kunsthaus – connaît une croissance dynamique et réunit aujourd'hui plus de 20 000 œuvres de l'art suisse allant du XVIIIe siècle à nos jours. Des donations et dépôts notables, comme ceux provenant de la collection Ringier, de la collection d'art de la Confédération, de la fondation A. Bechtler ou des Amis de l'Aargauische Kunstsammlung, ont contribué ces dernières années à l'excellent positionnement de la collection dans le paysage artistique européen. Ces apports, dont de nombreux travaux d'artistes contemporains, donnent de nouvelles impulsions et créent des références surprenantes au sein des fonds existants.
En trois chapitres, l'exposition déploie de nouveaux arcs narratifs répartis sur l'ensemble du musée. Avant · Dedans · Après. La collection en transition reflète le passé, interroge le présent et ose porter un regard sur le futur. Ce faisant, les principes familiers concernant l'ordre chronologique sont parfois joyeusement bafoués. Associant la réflexion sur l'espace et la temporalité, le titre renvoie en même temps aux questions installatives inhérentes à bien des œuvres présentées.
De nouvelles arrivées majeures rencontrent, dans une mise en scène expressive, des œuvres clés de l'art contemporain depuis les années 1960. L'exposition réunit photographie, sculpture, peinture, vidéo, art graphique ainsi que dessin avec des installations investissant l'espace et des ouvrages in situ créés spécialement pour cet évènement. Elle offre un aperçu exceptionnel des fonds de la plus vaste collection publique d'art suisse et invite à d'abondantes rencontres et découvertes.
La collezione, quale fondamento dell’Aargauer Kunsthaus, cresce in modo dinamico e include oltre 20’000 opere di arte svizzera dal XVIII secolo a oggi. Importanti donazioni e depositi pervenuti negli scorsi anni – tra l’altro dalle collezioni Ringier e della Confederazione, nonché dagli amici della Aargauische Kunstsammlung – hanno arricchito notevolmente la collezione. Le nuove acquisizioni, che includono numerose opere d’arte contemporanea, creano relazioni inedite e generano nuovi impulsi.
La mostra rispecchia il passato, interroga il presente e orienta lo sguardo verso il futuro. Concepita come percorso tematico articolato in tre capitoli, occupa l’intera superficie espositiva del museo. La rassegna offre la possibilità non solo di scoprire le ultime acquisizioni, ma anche di riscoprire opere fondamentali in un contesto sorprendente e di indagare così il DNA della collezione, caratterizzata dalla presenza di donazioni e depositi sia privati sia pubblici.
The Collection — the cornerstone of the Aargauer Kunsthaus — is growing apace, and today consists of over 20,000 pieces of Swiss art dating from the 18th century to the present day. In recent years, notable donations and loans — such as those from the Ringier Collection, the Federal Collection of Contemporary Art, the Walter A. Bechtler Foundation, or from patrons of the Aargauische Kunstsammlung — have contributed enormously to the outstanding importance of the collection in the European art scene. These additions, including many works by contemporary artists, serve as a source of fresh inspiration and form surprising associations within the portfolios.
Spread throughout the gallery space, the exhibition Before · Between · Beyond. The collection in transition describes new narrative arcs in three chapters, reflecting the past, questioning the present, and venturing a glimpse of the future. Sometimes gleefully departing from venerable principles of chronological order in the process. In conjunction with the conflict surrounding space and temporality, the title also refers to installation questions broached in many of the exhibits.
Major new arrivals confront key works of modern art dating back to the 1960s, and the effects of the juxtaposition are dramatic. The display combines photography, sculpture, painting, video, printed graphics, and drawing with large-scale installations and location-specific works that were created especially for this event. The exhibition offers remarkable glimpses into the holdings of this most extensive public collection of Swiss art and encourages lively encounters and new discoveries.
