Cabritas Schaffen umfasst eine Vielzahl an Medien wie Malerei, Fotografie, Zeichnung, Skulpturen sowie Installationen. Oftmals verwendet er industriell gefertigte Objekte, die mit Materialien wie Stahl, Holz, Glas und Aluminium kombiniert werden. Durch die Komplexität der Materialien sind Betrachtung und Wahrnehmung von Objekt und Material eng miteinander verknüpft. Häufig nehmen die dreidimensionalen Werke dabei architektonische Dimensionen ein, sodass sie sich zwischen den Grenzen von Architektur und Rauminstallation bewegen.
Cabritas Werk thematisiert Räumlichkeit und ihre Grenzen, evozieren neue Zusammenhänge und wecken die Fantasie mit einer Assoziationskraft, die so suggestiv ist, dass die Werke die Vorstellungskraft anregen und damit über das Visuelle hinaus in metaphorische Dimensionen übergehen. Sie sind von einem Blick auf die alltägliche Welt und zugleich einem philosophischen und poetischen Diskurs geprägt.
Die Ausstellung in der Mai 36 Galerie zeigt neue Werke aus verschiedenen Gattungen. In der Installation «The Place of Wisdom» (2021), die ein Fundstück aus Stahl und einen Teppich miteinander zeigt, kombiniert und recycelt der Künstler wie in «Ecstacy» (2020) - einem Wandobjekt aus Stahlelementen und einem kaputten Ball - einfache Materialien und Objekten in einem konstruktiven Prozess und platziert diese in einem neuen Kontext.
Pedro Cabrita Reis (*1956 in Lissabon, lebt und arbeitet in Lissabon) absolvierte 1983 seine akademische Ausbildung in Malerei an der Facultad de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Lisboa und gilt als einer der international bekanntesten Künstler seiner Generation. Seine Werke werden international ausgestellt, zuletzt 2020 im Centre of Contemporary Art in Malaga und 2019 im Serralves Museum in Porto. Zudem nahm er an bedeutenden internationalen Ausstellungen wie der Documenta IX in Kassel (1992), der 21. und 24. São Paulo Biennale (1998, 1994) und der Biennale von Venedig (2013, 2003 als Vertreter Portugals, 1997) teil. Seine Werke sind in bedeutenden Sammlungen wie der Tate Modern in London, dem Kunstmuseum Winterthur, der Fundação Serralves, dem Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Oporto, dem mumok in Wien und der Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin vertreten. Cabrita wurde vom Musée du Louvre eingeladen eine Skulptur für die Jardin des Tuileries auszuführen, die ab 2022 zu sehen sein wird.
L'œuvre de Cabrita englobe une variété de médias tels que la peinture, la photographie, le dessin, les sculptures ainsi que les installations. Il utilise souvent des objets fabriqués industriellement, combinés à des matériaux tels que l'acier, le bois, le verre et l'aluminium. En raison de la complexité des matériaux, l'observation et la perception de l'objet et du matériau sont étroitement liées. Les œuvres tridimensionnelles prennent souvent des dimensions architecturales, de sorte qu'elles se déplacent entre les frontières de l'architecture et de l'installation spatiale.
L'œuvre de Cabrita aborde la spatialité et ses limites, évoquant de nouveaux contextes et éveillant l'imagination avec un pouvoir d'association si suggestif que les œuvres stimulent l'imagination, dépassant ainsi le visuel pour atteindre des dimensions métaphoriques. Ils se caractérisent par un regard sur le monde quotidien et en même temps un discours philosophique et poétique.
L'exposition à la galerie Mai 36 présente de nouvelles œuvres de différents genres. Dans l'installation "The Place of Wisdom" (2021), qui montre un objet trouvé fait d'acier et un tapis ensemble, l'artiste combine et recycle des matériaux et des objets simples dans un processus constructif, comme dans "Ecstacy" (2020) - un objet mural fait d'éléments en acier et d'une balle cassée - et les place dans un nouveau contexte.
Il lavoro di Cabrita comprende una varietà di media come la pittura, la fotografia, il disegno, le sculture e le installazioni. Spesso usa oggetti di produzione industriale combinati con materiali come l'acciaio, il legno, il vetro e l'alluminio. A causa della complessità dei materiali, l'osservazione e la percezione dell'oggetto e del materiale sono strettamente legate. Le opere tridimensionali assumono spesso dimensioni architettoniche, in modo da muoversi tra i confini dell'architettura e dell'installazione spaziale.
Il lavoro di Cabrita affronta la spazialità e i suoi limiti, evocando nuovi contesti e risvegliando l'immaginazione con un potere di associazione così suggestivo che le opere stimolano la fantasia, andando così oltre il visivo in dimensioni metaforiche. Sono caratterizzati da una visione del mondo quotidiano e allo stesso tempo da un discorso filosofico e poetico.
La mostra alla galleria Mai 36 mostra nuove opere di vari generi. Nell'installazione "The Place of Wisdom" (2021), che mostra un oggetto trovato fatto di acciaio e un tappeto insieme, l'artista combina e ricicla materiali e oggetti semplici in un processo costruttivo, come in "Ecstacy" (2020) - un oggetto a muro fatto di elementi in acciaio e una palla rotta - e li colloca in un nuovo contesto.
Cabrita's work encompasses a variety of media including painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, as well as installations. He often uses industrially manufactured objects combined with materials such as steel, wood, glass, and aluminum. Due to the complexity of the materials, the viewing and perception of object and material are closely linked. Frequently, the three-dimensional works take on architectural dimensions, so that they move between the boundaries of architecture and spatial installation.
Cabrita's work addresses spatiality and its limits, evoking new contexts and awakening the imagination with a power of association so evocative that the works stimulate the imagination, moving beyond the visual into metaphorical dimensions. They are characterized by a view of the everyday world and at the same time a philosophical and poetic discourse.
The exhibition at Mai 36 Gallery features new works from various genres.
