Die Ausstellung präsentiert das facettenreiche Schaffen einer der bedeutendsten Medien- und Performancekünstler:innen des 20. Jahrhunderts. VALIE EXPORT (*1940, Österreich) gilt international als wegweisende Künstlerin, die mit ihrer medienreflexiven Praxis und feministischen Kritik gesellschaftliche Normen und Rollenbilder herausfordert. Von ihren frühen provokanten Expanded-Cinema-Aktionen über ihre symbolhaften Performances bis hin zu ihren urbanen Interventionen, führt die Ausstellung durch ihre vielseitige künstlerische Entwicklung. EXPORTs intensive Auseinandersetzung mit Medien, wie Video, Zeichnung und Installation wird in verschiedenen Phasen ihres Werks deutlich, insbesondere in ihrer experimentellen Herangehensweise an die Fotografie, auf der ein besonderer Schwerpunkt der Ausstellung liegt. Ihre radikalen Performances und ihre kritische Analyse von Massenmedien beleuchten unter anderem die Rolle der Frau und ihre gesellschaftliche Marginalisierung in einer patriarchalen Gesellschaft.
Die Ausstellung wurde von der Albertina, Wien in Kooperation mit C/O Berlin organisiert. Ermöglicht durch den Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
L'exposition présente les multiples facettes de l'œuvre de l'une des artistes les plus importantes du 20e siècle dans le domaine des médias et de la performance. VALIE EXPORT (*1940, Autriche) est considérée au niveau international comme une artiste pionnière qui défie les normes et les rôles sociaux par sa pratique réflexive des médias et sa critique féministe. De ses premières actions provocatrices d'Expanded Cinema à ses interventions urbaines, en passant par ses performances symboliques, l'exposition nous guide à travers son développement artistique varié. L'exploration intensive par EXPORT de médias tels que la vidéo, le dessin et l'installation apparaît clairement à différentes étapes de son œuvre, notamment dans son approche expérimentale de la photographie, sur laquelle l'exposition se concentre tout particulièrement. Ses performances radicales et son analyse critique des médias de masse mettent en lumière, entre autres, le rôle de la femme et sa marginalisation sociale dans une société patriarcale.
L'exposition a été organisée par l'Albertina, Vienne, en coopération avec C/O Berlin. Permis par le Hauptstadtkulturfonds.

VALIE EXPORT (*1940, Austria) è riconosciuta a livello internazionale come un'artista pionieristica che sfida le norme sociali e i modelli di ruolo con la sua pratica riflessiva sui media e la sua critica femminista. Dalle prime provocatorie azioni di Expanded Cinema alle performance simboliche e agli interventi urbani, la mostra guida i visitatori attraverso il suo multiforme sviluppo artistico. L'intensa esplorazione da parte di EXPORT di media come il video, il disegno e l'installazione è evidente in varie fasi del suo lavoro, in particolare nel suo approccio sperimentale alla fotografia, che è un punto focale della mostra. Le sue performance radicali e la sua analisi critica dei mass media mettono in evidenza, tra l'altro, il ruolo delle donne e la loro emarginazione sociale in una società patriarcale.

The exhibition presents the multifaceted oeuvre of one of the most important media and performance artists of the twentieth century. VALIE EXPORT (b. 1940, Austria) is internationally recognized as a trailblazing artist who challenges social norms and role models with her media-reflective practice and feminist criticism. This exhibition presents her eclectic artistic development, ranging from her early, provocative expanded cinema” actions to her symbolic performances and urban interventions. EXPORT’s in-depth examination of media such as video, drawing, and installation is apparent in the different phases of her career, especially in her experimental approach to photography, which is a special focus of this exhibition. Her radical performances and critical analysis of mass media highlight, among other things, the role of women and their social marginalization in a patriarchal society.
