TIME TRAVELERS – my inner child & me

Es ist eine Frage, die sich vermutlich die meisten schon einmal gestellt haben: Was würde ich sagen, wenn ich meinem kindlichen Ich begegnete? Welchen Rat würde ich ihm geben? In ihrer Ausstellung „My Inner Child And Me: A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS“ bietet die deutsche Fotografin Petra Gerwers bekannten Persönlichkeiten eine Bühne für diese Frage.
Vor acht Jahren begann Petra Gerwers mit den „TIME TRAVELERS“: Sie bat Fotografen, Schauspieler und andere, einen Brief an ihr früheres Ich im Kindesalter zu schreiben. Es waren sehr persönliche, bewegende Worte, die dabei herauskamen: „Ich denke noch ab und zu an Dich. Dann hoffe ich, dass ich Dich nicht zurückgelassen habe und Dich noch irgendwo in mir mittrage […]“ schreibt etwa Esther Schuler, Schauspielerin und Übersetzerin für Zeichensprache. „Ich fühle es immer“, schreibt der Fotograf Ivo von Renner an das Kind mit „unterdrückter“ Hochbegabung, „aber wenn Du es mir nur einmal sagen könntest, um mich in der Welt der Anderen gleichwertig fühlen zu können, würde das vieles verändern“.
Doch Petra Gerwers beließ es nicht bei dem Brief, sondern fragte auch ein Kindheitsfoto an, um zu visualisieren, wer der Empfänger des Schreibens ist. Vervollständigt wird das Projekt von einem aktuellen Portrait, aufgenommen von der Fotografin selbst, stets durch eine Fensterscheibe hindurch; die Reflexionen im Glas geben einen Hinweis, welcher Ort oder welches Geschehen besonders richtungsweisend in der jeweiligen Vergangenheit war, beziehungsweise für die Gegenwart des/der Portraitierten ist.
„My Inner Child And Me: A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS“ ist eine authentische Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Lebensentwürfen und eine Selbstreflexion durch die Protagonisten. Petra Gerwers‘ Portraits wurden dabei zum größten Teil mit einer Leica Monochrom aufgenommen. Insgesamt 25 Personen finden sich in der Ausstellung wieder, darunter Nick Ùt und Kim Phuc (beide bekannt durch das Bild eines von Napalm verbrannten Mädchens im Vietnamkrieg), Kristian Schuller (Modefotograf), Klaus Honnef (Kunsthistoriker und -kritiker), Andrea Lüdke (Schauspielerin), sowie Ivo von Renner und Esther Schuler.
VOYAGE A TRAVERS LE TEMPS ou CHER PETIT MOI
C'est une question que la plupart d'entre nous se sont probablement déjà transmise : Que dirais-je si je rencontrais mon moi enfantin ? Quel conseil lui donnerais-je ? Dans son exposition "My Inner Child And Me : A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS", la photographe allemande Petra Gerwers offre à des personnalités connues une scène pour répondre à cette question.
Il y a huit ans, Petra Gerwers a commencé les "TIME TRAVELERS" : elle a demandé à des photographes, des acteurs et d'autres d'écrire une lettre à leur ancien moi enfant. Il en est ressorti des mots très personnels et émouvants : "Je pense encore à vous de temps en temps. J'espère alors que je ne t'ai pas laissé derrière moi et que je te porte encore quelque part en moi [...]", écrit par exemple Esther Schuler, actrice et traductrice en langue des signes. "Je le sens toujours", écrit le photographe Ivo von Renner à l'enfant à haut potentiel "réprimé", "mais si tu pouvais me le dire une seule fois, pour pouvoir me sentir égale dans le monde des autres, cela changerait beaucoup de choses".
Mais Petra Gerwers ne s'est pas arrêtée à la lettre, elle a également demandé une photo d'enfance pour visualiser qui est le destinataire de la lettre. Le projet est complété par un portrait actuel, pris par la photographe elle-même, toujours à travers une vitre ; les reflets dans la vitre donnent une note indiquant quel lieu ou quel événement a été particulièrement significatif dans le passé, respectivement pour le présent du/de la portraituré(e).
"My Inner Child And Me : A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS" est une confrontation authentique avec différents projets de vie et une autoréflexion de la part des protagonistes. Les portraits de Petra Gerwers ont été réalisés en grande partie avec un Leica Monochrom. Au total, 25 personnes se retrouvent dans l'exposition, dont Nick Ùt et Kim Phuc (tous deux connus pour le visuel d'une jeune fille brûlée par le napalm pendant la guerre du Vietnam), Kristian Schuller (photographe de mode), Klaus Honnef (historien et critique d'art), Andrea Lüdke (actrice), ainsi que Ivo von Renner et Esther Schuler.
VIAGGIO NEL TEMPO o LITTLE ME.
È una domanda che probabilmente la maggior parte delle persone si è posta prima o poi: Cosa direi se incontrassi il mio io bambino? Che consiglio gli darei? Nella sua mostra "My Inner Child And Me: A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS", la fotografa tedesca Petra Gerwers offre a personaggi noti un palcoscenico per questa domanda.
Otto anni fa, Petra Gerwers ha iniziato "TIME TRAVELERS": ha chiesto a fotografi, attori e altre persone di scrivere una lettera al loro ex sé da bambino. Le parole che ne sono uscite sono state molto personali e commoventi: "Di tanto in tanto penso ancora a te. Allora spero di non averti lasciato indietro e di portarti ancora da qualche parte dentro di me [...]", scrive ad esempio Esther Schuler, attrice e traduttrice di lingua dei segni. "Lo sento sempre", scrive il fotografo Ivo von Renner al bambino con un talento "represso", "ma se tu potessi dirmelo solo una volta, in modo che io possa sentirmi uguale al mondo degli altri, cambierebbe molto".
Ma Petra Gerwers non si è limitata alla lettera, ma ha richiesto anche una foto d'infanzia per visualizzare chi è il destinatario della lettera. Il progetto è completato da un ritratto attuale, scattato dalla stessa fotografa, sempre attraverso il vetro di una finestra; i riflessi nel vetro danno un indizio su quale luogo o quale evento sia stato particolarmente indicativo nel rispettivo passato, o lo sia per il presente della persona ritratta.
"My Inner Child And Me: A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS" è un'autentica disamina di diversi modi di vivere e un'auto-riflessione dei protagonisti. I ritratti di Petra Gerwers sono stati realizzati principalmente con una Leica Monochrom. La mostra presenta un totale di 25 persone, tra cui Nick Ùt e Kim Phuc (entrambi noti per la foto di una ragazza bruciata dal napalm durante la guerra del Vietnam), Kristian Schuller (fotografo di moda), Klaus Honnef (storico e critico d'arte), Andrea Lüdke (attrice), nonché Ivo von Renner ed Esther Schuler.
JOURNEY THROUGH TIME or LITTLE ME
It's a question that of course most of us have asked ourselves at one time or another: What would I say if I met my child self? What advice would I give him? In her exhibition "My Inner Child And Me: A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS," German photographer Petra Gerwers offers well-known personalities a stage for this question.
Eight years ago Petra Gerwers started "TIME TRAVELERS": she asked photographers, actors and others to write a letter to their former self in childhood. The words that came out were very personal and moving: "I still think of you from time to time. Then I hope that I have not left you behind and still carry you somewhere inside me [...]" writes, for example, Esther Schuler, actress and translator of sign language. "I always feel it," writes photographer Ivo von Renner to the child with "suppressed" giftedness, "but if you could tell me just once, to make me feel equal in the world of others, that would change a lot."
But Petra Gerwers did not leave it at the letter, but also requested a childhood photo to visualize who the recipient of the letter is. The project is completed by a current portrait, taken up by the photographer herself, always through a window pane; the reflections in the glass give a note, which place or which event was particularly directional in the respective past, respectively is for the present of the portrayed.
"My Inner Child And Me: A Document From Individual TIME TRAVELERS" is an authentic examination of different ways of life and a self-reflection by the protagonists. Petra Gerwers' portraits were mostly taken up with a Leica Monochrom. A total of 25 people can be found in the exhibition, including Nick Ùt and Kim Phuc (both known for their picture of a girl burned by napalm during the Vietnam War), Kristian Schuller (fashion photographer), Klaus Honnef (art historian and critic), Andrea Lüdke (actress), as well as Ivo von Renner and Esther Schuler.
