„Keine andere Droge ist so weit verbreitet und niemand kann ohne sie. Zucker ist einfach das Allertollste für uns Lebewesen,“ so der Fotograf Jan von Holleben. In seinem Berliner Fotostudio ist er ihr erlegen, der süßesten Versuchung, seit es Nahrungsmittel gibt. „Ich wollte ganz eintauchen in diese Welt. Besonders die klassischen Süßigkeiten, die eine klare Formsprache hatten, fand ich interessant.“
Die Ausstellung Sugar Wow zeigt ein Schlaraffenland, das aus einer visuellen Welt von Süßigkeiten besteht. Die ästhetisch farbenfrohen Bilder, deren Sujets komplett aus den süßen Zuckermaterialien aufgebaut sind, zeigen einerseits die Farben- und Formenvielfalt eines der wohl wichtigsten Lebensmittel unserer Zeit, andererseits aber auch ein sehr kritisch zu betrachtendes Thema, das aus unserer Gesellschaft nicht mehr wegzudenken ist.
„Die Welt der Süßigkeiten ist sehr komplex und intensiv. Wir Menschen haben in allen Kulturen einen sehr speziellen Umgang mit Zucker. Dabei ist der Übergang von essenzieller Ernährung (Kohlenhydrate, Säuren etc., die im Körper zu Zucker umgewandelt werden) über süßes Gebäck zu dem, was wir Süßigkeiten nennen, fließend. Süßigkeiten sind das extremste Zuckerzeug – Zucker fast in Reinform, versetzt mit etwas Farbe und ein paar anderen Inhaltsstoffen für noch bessere Haltbarkeit, Materialität oder Sensorik.“
Jan von Holleben nimmt den Betrachter in seinen Bildern mit auf eine Reise Zucker einmal anders zu erleben und sich mit dem Thema auseinanderzusetzen. Humorvolles, Ästhetisches und Dekoratives gehen dabei eine essentielle Symbiose ein, die zum Schmunzeln einlädt.
Jan von Holleben arbeitet als Kinderbuchautor, er veröffentlichte bereits mehr als 20 Kinder- und Künstlerbücher. Seine Arbeiten sind international in der Werbung und in unzähligen Magazinen zu sehen.
"Aucune autre drogue n'est aussi répandue et personne ne peut s'en passer. Le sucre est tout simplement ce qu'il y a de plus délicieux pour nous, les êtres vivants", déclare le photographe Jan von Holleben. Dans son studio photo berlinois, il a succombé à la tentation la plus douce depuis l'apparition de la nourriture. "Je voulais m'immerger complètement dans ce monde. J'ai trouvé particulièrement intéressants les bonbons classiques, qui avaient un langage formel clair".
L'exposition Sugar Wow présente un pays de cocagne constitué d'un univers visuel de sucreries. Les images esthétiques et colorées, dont les sujets sont entièrement construits à partir des matériaux sucrés du sucre, montrent d'une part la diversité des couleurs et des formes de l'un des aliments sans doute les plus importants de notre époque, mais d'autre part aussi un thème très critique dont on ne peut plus se passer dans notre société.
"Le monde des sucreries est très complexe et intense. Dans toutes les cultures, nous autres humains avons une approche très particulière du sucre. Dans ce contexte, la transition entre l'alimentation essentielle (glucides, acides, etc. qui sont transformés en sucre dans le corps) et ce que nous appelons les sucreries, en passant par les pâtisseries sucrées, est fluide. Les bonbons sont le truc sucré le plus extrême - du sucre presque à l'état pur, mélangé à un peu de couleur et à quelques autres ingrédients pour une conservation, une matérialité ou une sensorialité encore meilleures".
Dans ses images, Jan von Holleben emmène le spectateur dans un voyage pour découvrir le sucre autrement et se confronter à ce thème. L'humour, l'esthétique et le décoratif y forment une symbiose essentielle qui invite à sourire.
Jan von Holleben travaille comme auteur de livres pour enfants, il a déjà publié plus de 20 livres pour enfants et livres d'artistes. Ses travaux sont visibles dans la publicité internationale et dans d'innombrables magazines.
"Nessun'altra droga è così diffusa e nessuno può farne a meno. Lo zucchero è semplicemente la cosa più dolce per noi creature", afferma il fotografo Jan von Holleben. Nel suo studio fotografico di Berlino, ha ceduto alla tentazione più dolce da quando esiste il cibo. "Volevo immergermi completamente in questo mondo. Ero particolarmente interessato ai dolci classici, che avevano un chiaro linguaggio di design".
La mostra Sugar Wow mostra una terra di latte e miele costituita da un mondo visivo di dolci. Le immagini esteticamente colorate, i cui soggetti sono realizzati interamente con materiali zuccherini, mostrano la varietà di colori e forme di uno degli alimenti più importanti del nostro tempo, ma anche un tema molto critico che è diventato parte integrante della nostra società.
"Il mondo dei dolci è molto complesso e intenso. Noi esseri umani, in tutte le culture, abbiamo un modo molto particolare di rapportarci allo zucchero. Il passaggio dall'alimentazione essenziale (carboidrati, acidi, ecc. che vengono convertiti in zucchero nell'organismo) alla pasticceria dolce e a ciò che chiamiamo dolci è fluido. I dolci sono gli zuccheri più estremi: zucchero quasi allo stato puro, mescolato con un po' di colore e qualche altro ingrediente per migliorare la conservabilità, la materialità o le proprietà sensoriali".
Nelle sue immagini, Jan von Holleben accompagna lo spettatore in un viaggio che lo porta a sperimentare lo zucchero in modo diverso e a confrontarsi con il soggetto. Elementi umoristici, estetici e decorativi entrano in una simbiosi essenziale che fa sorridere.
Jan von Holleben lavora come autore di libri per bambini e ha già pubblicato più di 20 libri per bambini e per artisti. I suoi lavori sono visibili a livello internazionale in pubblicità e in innumerevoli riviste.
"No other drug is so widespread and nobody can do without it. Sugar is simply the sweetest thing for us creatures," says photographer Jan von Holleben. In his Berlin photo studio, he succumbed to it, the sweetest temptation since food has existed. "I wanted to immerse myself completely in this world. I was particularly interested in the classic sweets, which had a clear design language."
The Sugar Wow exhibition shows a land of milk and honey consisting of a visual world of sweets. The aesthetically colorful pictures, whose subjects are made up entirely of sweet sugar materials, show the variety of colors and shapes of one of the most important foods of our time, but also a very critical topic that has become an integral part of our society.
"The world of sweets is very complex and intense. We humans have a very special way of dealing with sugar in all cultures. The transition from essential food (carbohydrates, acids, etc., which are converted into sugar in the body) to sweet pastries and what we call sweets is a fluid one. Sweets are the most extreme sugar stuff - sugar almost in its pure form, mixed with some color and a few other ingredients for even better shelf life, materiality or sensory properties."
In his pictures, Jan von Holleben takes the viewer on a journey to experience sugar in a different way and to engage with the subject. Humorous, aesthetic and decorative elements enter into an essential symbiosis that invites smiles.
Jan von Holleben works as a children's book author and has already published more than 20 children's and artist's books. His work can be seen internationally in advertising and in countless magazines.
