Nach einem wissenschaftlichen Studium (Abschluss als Maître es Sciences Physiques) und zehn Jahren, die er der Malerei gewidmet hat, arbeitet Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand seit 1980 mit fotografischen Werkzeugen.
Seine streng analogen, schwarz-weißen Silberarbeiten zeichnen sich durch eine spielerische Vorstellungswelt aus, die mit einer Vorliebe für komplexe Technologien wie Daguerreotypie, Periphotographie, Strobophotographie, chemische Kurven, direkte Monotypien, Rayogramme und andere Erfindungen seinerseits einhergeht. Da er der Vorstellung von Perspektive entflieht, haben seine Bilder, obwohl sie in ihrer Entstehung sehr anspruchsvoll sind, die Vereinfachung von visuellen Sprichwörtern, die wie Haikus gereinigt sind.
Après des études scientifiques (diplômé Maître es Sciences Physiques) et dix années consacrées à la peinture, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand travaille avec les outils photographiques depuis 1980.
Ses oeuvres, strictement analogiques, argentiques noir & blanc, se caractérisent par un imaginaire ludique, associé à un goût pour les technologies complexes telles que le Daguerréotype, la périphotographie, la strobophotographie, les virages chimiques, les monotypes directs, les rayogrammes et d'autres inventions de son cru. Fuyant la notion de la perspective, ses images, bien que très sophistiquées pour leur élaboration, ont la simplification de proverbes visuels, épurés comme des haïkus.
Dopo studi scientifici (Master in Fisica) e dieci anni dedicati alla pittura, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand lavora con strumenti fotografici dal 1980.
Le sue opere rigorosamente analogiche, in bianco e nero e argento, sono caratterizzate da un'immaginazione giocosa, unita al gusto per tecnologie complesse come il dagherrotipo, la perifotografia, la strobofotografia, le curve chimiche, i monotipi diretti, i rayogrammi e altre sue invenzioni. Rifuggendo dalla nozione di prospettiva, le sue immagini, pur essendo molto sofisticate nella loro costruzione, hanno la semplificazione di proverbi visivi, ridotti come haiku.
After scientific studies (Master of Physics) and ten years devoted to painting, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand has been working with photographic tools since 1980.
His works, strictly analog, black & white silver, are characterized by a playful imagination, associated with a taste for complex technologies such as the Daguerreotype, periphotography, strobophotography, chemical curves, direct monotypes, rayograms and other inventions of his own. Shunning the notion of perspective, his images, though highly sophisticated in their elaboration, have the simplification of visual proverbs, purified like haikus.
