Parrathon - eine obsessive fotografische Suche nach dem Vulgären, dem Kaputten und dem Absurden, die Martin Parr antreibt und Motive hervorbringt, die die Betrachtenden zum Schmunzeln und Staunen bringen. Es ist auch eine Zeitreise, beginnen seine Arbeiten in den 70er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts und lassen uns so zurückblicken in eine leichte Zeit, eine Zeit des Konsums vor, während und nach den Discmans und inmitten von Zigarettenqualm im Restaurant.
Auf der fotografischen Reise begegneten ihm die malerische englische Stadt Hebden Bridge in der Pennine in Yorkshire, in der er über einen Zeitraum von fünf Jahren vor allem die sich im Niedergang befindenden Aspekte des traditionellen Lebens dokumentierte. Später zog es ihn in Städte wie Dubai, Durban, Miami und Moskau, um auf Veranstaltungen wie Modenschauen, Kunstmessen, Luxusgütermärkten und Rennbahnen den Reichtum, ein in seinen Augen ebenso sensibles Thema wie das der Armut, zu untersuchen.
Mit Serien wie The Non-Conformists, Common Sense, Luxury, Bored Couples, Death by Selfie, Mexico, Small World, Bad Weather, Everybody Dance Now, Establishment, The Cost of Living, The Last Resort, Think of England und Self-Portrait treffen wir ab dem 22. Juni auf Schwarz-Weiss-Fotografien auf der einen Seite und farbenfrohe Sujets, die ihm in den 80ern zum Durchbruch verhalfen, auf der anderen Seite.
Mit der Ausstellung im IPFO Haus der Fotografie werden erstmals Fotografien von Parr zu sehen sein, die er 2003 für das NZZ FOLIO in Olten aufgenommen hat. Dafür war er zu Besuch am Bahnhof, in der Migros oder in den Shisha-Bars der Stadt, um hier den Zeitgeist der Kleinstadt zu dokumentieren und uns nun, 20 Jahre später, auf eine Zeitreise zu schicken.
Die Ausstellung wurde von Andrea Holzherr (Magnum Photos) kuratiert und vor Ort durch Miriam Edmunds unterstützt.
Parrathon - une recherche photographique obsessionnelle du vulgaire, du cassé et de l'absurde qui anime Martin Parr et produit des motifs qui font sourire et étonnent ceux qui les regardent. C'est aussi un voyage dans le temps, ses travaux commencent dans les années 70 du siècle dernier et nous permettent ainsi de nous replonger dans une époque légère, une époque de consommation avant, pendant et après les Discmans et au milieu de la fumée de cigarette au restaurant.
Au cours de son voyage photographique, il a rencontré la pittoresque ville anglaise de Hebden Bridge, dans les Pennines du Yorkshire, où il a surtout documenté, sur une période de cinq ans, les aspects en déclin de la vie traditionnelle. Plus tard, il s'est rendu dans des villes comme Dubaï, Durban, Miami et Moscou pour étudier la richesse, un sujet aussi sensible à ses yeux que celui de la pauvreté, lors d'événements tels que des défilés de mode, des foires d'art, des marchés de produits de luxe et des hippodromes.
Avec des séries comme The Non-Conformists, Common Sense, Luxury, Bored Couples, Death by Selfie, Mexico, Small World, Bad Weather, Everybody Dance Now, Establishment, The Cost of Living, The Last Resort, Think of England et Self-Portrait, nous retrouverons à partir du 22 juin des photographies en noir et blanc d'une part et des sujets hauts en couleur qui lui ont permis de percer dans les années 80 d'autre part.
Avec l'exposition à l'IPFO Haus der Fotografie, on pourra voir pour la première fois des photographies de Parr qu'il a prises en 2003 pour le NZZ FOLIO à Olten. Pour cela, il s'est rendu à la gare, à la Migros ou dans les bars à chicha de la ville, afin de documenter ici l'esprit du temps de la petite ville et de nous faire maintenant, 20 ans plus tard, voyager dans le temps.

Parrathon - una ricerca fotografica ossessiva del volgare, del rotto e dell'assurdo che guida Martin Parr e che produce motivi che fanno sorridere e meravigliare gli spettatori. È anche un viaggio nel tempo, le sue opere iniziano negli anni '70 del secolo scorso e ci permettono di guardare indietro a un tempo leggero, un tempo di consumo prima, durante e dopo i Discman e tra il fumo delle sigarette al ristorante.
Nel suo viaggio fotografico ha incontrato la pittoresca cittadina inglese di Hebden Bridge, nella regione pennina dello Yorkshire, dove per un periodo di cinque anni ha documentato soprattutto gli aspetti decadenti della vita tradizionale. In seguito è stato attratto da città come Dubai, Durban, Miami e Mosca per esplorare la ricchezza, un tema delicato ai suoi occhi quanto quello della povertà, in occasione di eventi come sfilate di moda, fiere d'arte, mercati di beni di lusso e ippodromi.
Con serie come The Non-Conformists, Common Sense, Luxury, Bored Couples, Death by Selfie, Mexico, Small World, Bad Weather, Everybody Dance Now, Establishment, The Cost of Living, The Last Resort, Think of England e Self-Portrait, a partire dal 22 giugno incontriamo da un lato fotografie in bianco e nero e dall'altro i soggetti colorati che lo hanno aiutato a sfondare negli anni Ottanta.
La mostra all'IPFO House of Photography sarà la prima ad esporre le fotografie che Parr ha scattato per il NZZ FOLIO di Olten nel 2003. Per questo, ha visitato la stazione ferroviaria, la Migros o i bar di shisha della città per documentare lo zeitgeist della piccola città e ora, 20 anni dopo, per inviarci in un viaggio nel tempo.

Parrathon - an obsessive photographic search for the vulgar, the broken and the absurd that drives Martin Parr and produces motifs that make viewers smile and wonder. It is also a journey through time, his works begin in the 70s of the last century and thus make us look back to a light time, a time of consumption before, during and after the Discmans and amidst cigarette smoke in the restaurant.
On his photographic journey he encountered the picturesque English town of Hebden Bridge in the Pennine region of Yorkshire, where over a period of five years he documented mainly the declining aspects of traditional life. He was later drawn to cities such as Dubai, Durban, Miami and Moscow to investigate wealth, a subject as sensitive in his eyes as that of poverty, at events such as fashion shows, art fairs, luxury goods markets and racecourses.
With series such as The Non-Conformists, Common Sense, Luxury, Bored Couples, Death by Selfie, Mexico, Small World, Bad Weather, Everybody Dance Now, Establishment, The Cost of Living, The Last Resort, Think of England, and Self-Portrait, starting June 22, we encounter black-and-white photographs on the one hand and colorful subjects that helped him make his breakthrough in the '80s on the other.
The exhibition at the IPFO House of Photography will be the first to show photographs by Parr that he took up in Olten in 2003 for the NZZ FOLIO. For this, he visited the train station, the Migros or the shisha bars of the town to document the zeitgeist of the small town and now, 20 years later, to send us on a journey through time.
