Mit der Ausstellung PARADISE, PERFORMANCE, REPLICA. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART präsentiert das Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) drei Positionen zeitgenössischer Fotografie aus Slowenien. In den Arbeiten von Vanja Bućan, Jošt Dolinšek und Bojan Radovič geht es um die Inszenierung sozialer Rollen, den Blick des Individuums auf seine Umgebung und um das Spiel mit dem Phänomen der Wiederholung. Zugleich loten alle drei Künstler*innen auf jeweils eigene Weise die Grenzen von Fotografie experimentell und erfrischend aus.
Mit surreal inszenierten Bildkompositionen hinterfragt Vanja Bućan (*1973, Nova Gorica) gesellschaftspolitische Themen. In ihrer Serie Birds of Paradise – entstanden von 2021 bis 2023 im pandemiebedingten Rückzug ins Häusliche – thematisiert die Fotokünstlerin tradierte weibliche Rollen in der Abgeschiedenheit des Privaten. Die Frau primär zuständig für Kinderbetreuung und Haushalt oder reduziert auf dienstbereite Hände – solche Frauen-Bilder entstehen, indem Bućan ihre Fotografien zerlegt und dann zu humorvoll-hintergründigen Fotocollagen zusammenfügt, als Spiegel von Erlebtem und Einladung zum Nachdenken.
Jošt Dolinšek (*1997, Ljubljana) untersucht in seinen Werken die visuelle Wahrnehmung und Wirkung von Umgebung, insbesondere von Landschaft und Natur. Dabei beschäftigen den jungen Künstler weniger Umweltkrisen und deren Gründe, sondern grundsätzlicher die existenzielle und individuelle Haltung zu Zeit und Raum. Im Zentrum seiner Arbeit steht immer wieder der Umgang mit Ungewissheit, Verlust und Veränderung. Dolinšek experimentiert mit Medien, Materialien und Formen und kombiniert Fotografie mit Bewegtbild, Ton und Skulptur.
Seit den 1980er Jahren beschäftigt sich Bojan Radovič (*1960, Novo mesto) in seinen Werken mit dem Prinzip von Wiederholung, Kopie und Nachbildung. Der faszinierenden Bedeutungs- und Variationsvielfalt der „Replik“ geht der Fotokünstler mit sichtlichem Vergnügen nach, auf inhaltlicher und verfahrenstechnischer Ebene sowie mittels diverser Verweise in Fotografie- und Kunstgeschichte. Neben seiner künstlerischen Arbeit nimmt Radovič auch als Ausstellungs-macher, Verleger und Gründer der Foto-Institutionen Fotogalerie Novo mesto und House of Photography eine wichtige Rolle in der Fotoszene Sloweniens ein.
Zu sehen sind insgesamt rund 60 Arbeiten, darunter Fotografien, Installationen und Multimedia-Projekte. PARADISE, PERFORMANCE, REPLICA. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART wurde kuratiert von Celina Lunsford und Co-Kuratorin Andrea Horvay. Die Ausstellung ist Beitrag des FFF zum Ehrengastprogramm Sloweniens bei der Frankfurter Buchmesse 2023.
Avec l'exposition PARADISE, PERFORMANCE, REPLICA. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART, le Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) présente trois positions de la photographie contemporaine de Slovénie. Dans les travaux de Vanja Bućan, Jošt Dolinšek et Bojan Radovič, il est question de la mise en scène des rôles sociaux, du regard de l'individu sur son environnement et du jeu avec le phénomène de la répétition. Parallèlement, les trois artistes* explorent chacun à leur manière les limites de la photographie de manière expérimentale et rafraîchissante.
Avec des compositions d'images mises en scène de manière surréaliste, Vanja Bućan (*1973, Nova Gorica) s'interroge sur des thèmes sociopolitiques. Dans sa série Birds of Paradise - créée entre 2021 et 2023 dans le cadre d'un repli sur soi domestique dû à la pandémie - l'artiste photographe aborde les rôles féminins traditionnels dans l'isolement de la sphère privée. La femme principalement responsable de la garde des enfants et du ménage ou réduite à des mains prêtes à servir - de tels visuels de femmes naissent du fait que Bućan décompose ses photographies et les assemble ensuite en collages photographiques pleins d'humour et de subtilité, comme un miroir du vécu et une invitation à la réflexion.
Jošt Dolinšek (*1997, Ljubljana) étudie dans ses œuvres la perception visuelle et l'effet de l'environnement, en particulier du paysage et de la nature. Le jeune artiste s'intéresse moins aux crises environnementales et à leurs causes qu'à l'attitude existentielle et individuelle face au temps et à l'espace. Le rapport à l'incertitude, à la perte et au changement est toujours au cœur de son travail. Dolinšek expérimente avec les médias, les matériaux et les formes et combine la photographie avec l'image en mouvement, le son et la sculpture.
Depuis les années 1980, Bojan Radovič (*1960, Novo mesto) s'intéresse dans ses œuvres au principe de la répétition, de la copie et de la réplique. C'est avec un plaisir évident que l'artiste photographe explore la fascinante diversité de significations et de variations de la "réplique", au niveau du contenu et du procédé, ainsi qu'au moyen de diverses références à l'histoire de la photographie et de l'art. Outre son travail artistique, Radovič joue également un rôle important sur la scène photographique slovène en tant que créateur d'expositions, éditeur et fondateur des institutions photographiques Fotogalerie Novo mesto et House of Photography.
On peut y voir au total une soixantaine de travaux, dont des photographies, des installations et des projets multimédias. PARADISE, PERFORMANCE, RÉPLIQUE. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART a été organisée par Celina Lunsford et la co-commissaire Andrea Horvay. L'exposition est la contribution du FFF au programme d'invité d'honneur de la Slovénie à la Foire du livre de Francfort 2023.

Le opere di Vanja Bućan, Jošt Dolinšek e Bojan Radovič trattano la messa in scena di ruoli sociali, la visione individuale dell'ambiente circostante e il gioco con il fenomeno della ripetizione. Allo stesso tempo, tutti e tre gli artisti esplorano i confini della fotografia in modo sperimentale e innovativo.
Vanja Bućan (*1973, Nova Gorica) mette in discussione temi socio-politici con composizioni di immagini surreali. Nella serie Birds of Paradise - realizzata tra il 2021 e il 2023 durante il ritiro in casa indotto dalla pandemia - la fotoartista affronta i tradizionali ruoli femminili nell'isolamento della sfera privata. La donna principalmente responsabile della cura dei figli e delle faccende domestiche o ridotta a un'attività di servizio: queste immagini di donne emergono quando Bućan seziona le sue fotografie e le assembla in collage fotografici ironici ed enigmatici come specchio dell'esperienza e invito alla riflessione.
Jošt Dolinšek (*1997, Lubiana) esplora nelle sue opere la percezione visiva e l'effetto dell'ambiente, in particolare del paesaggio e della natura. Il giovane artista non è tanto interessato alle crisi ambientali e alle loro cause, quanto piuttosto agli atteggiamenti esistenziali e individuali nei confronti del tempo e dello spazio. Il suo lavoro è sempre incentrato sul tema dell'incertezza, della perdita e del cambiamento. Dolinšek sperimenta con i media, i materiali e le forme e combina la fotografia con le immagini in movimento, il suono e la scultura.
Dagli anni Ottanta, Bojan Radovič (*1960, Novo mesto) si occupa del principio della ripetizione, della copia e dell'imitazione nelle sue opere. L'affascinante varietà di significati e variazioni della "replica" viene esplorata dal fotoartista con evidente piacere, a livello di contenuto e di processo, nonché attraverso vari riferimenti alla fotografia e alla storia dell'arte. Oltre al suo lavoro artistico, Radovič svolge un ruolo importante nella scena fotografica slovena come organizzatore di mostre, editore e fondatore delle istituzioni fotografiche Fotogalerie Novo mesto e House of Photography.
In totale sono esposte circa 60 opere, tra cui fotografie, installazioni e progetti multimediali. PARADISO, PERFORMANCE, REPLICA. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART è stata curata da Celina Lunsford e dalla co-curatrice Andrea Horvay. La mostra è il contributo del FFF al programma "Ospite d'onore" della Slovenia alla Fiera del Libro di Francoforte 2023.
With the exhibition PARADISE, PERFORMANCE, REPLICA. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART, Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) presents three positions of contemporary photography from Slovenia. The works of Vanja Bućan, Jošt Dolinšek and Bojan Radovič are about the staging of social roles, the view of the individual on his environment and the play with the phenomenon of repetition. At the same time, all three artists explore the boundaries of photography in their own experimental and refreshing ways.
With surreally staged image compositions, Vanja Bućan (*1973, Nova Gorica) questions socio-political themes. In her series Birds of Paradise - created from 2021 to 2023 during the pandemic-related retreat into the domestic - the photo artist addresses traditional female roles in the seclusion of the private sphere. The woman primarily responsible for childcare and household chores or reduced to hands on duty - such visuals of women emerge as Bućan dissects her photographs and then assembles them into humorously enigmatic photo collages, as a mirror of experience and an invitation to reflection.
Jošt Dolinšek (*1997, Ljubljana) investigates in his works the visual perception and effect of surroundings, especially of landscape and nature. The young artist is less concerned with environmental crises and their causes, but more fundamentally with existential and individual attitudes to time and space. The focus of his work is always on dealing with uncertainty, loss and change. Dolinšek experiments with media, materials and forms, combining photography with moving image, sound and sculpture.
Since the 1980s, Bojan Radovič (*1960, Novo mesto) has been dealing with the principle of repetition, copying and replication in his works. The fascinating variety of meanings and variations of the "replica" is explored by the photo artist with obvious pleasure, on the level of content and process, as well as by means of various references in photography and art history. In addition to his artistic work, Radovič also plays an important role in Slovenia's photo scene as an exhibition maker, publisher and founder of the photo institutions Fotogalerie Novo mesto and House of Photography.
On display are a total of around 60 works, including photographs, installations and multimedia projects. PARADISE, PERFORMANCE, REPLICA. SLOVENIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART was curated by Celina Lunsford and co-curator Andrea Horvay. The exhibition is FFF's contribution to Slovenia's Guest of Honor program at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023.
