Wie nehmen wir die Welt wahr und was wäre diese ohne Farbe? Als künstlerische Ausdrucksform war Farbe innerhalb der Fotografie lange verpönt – man arbeitete in Schwarz/Weiß. Ab den 1960er Jahren entdeckten immer mehr Fotograf:innen neue Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten der Farbfotografie. Kaum jemand benutzte Farbfilm jedoch so radikal und wegweisend wie der US-amerikanische Fotograf William Eggleston, der so ganze Generationen von Fotograf:innen beeinflusste. Früh erkannte Eggleston die unverwechselbare Kraft und einzigartige kompositorischen Möglichkeiten, durch Farbnuancen ganze Bildwelten einzufangen. Wie keinem anderen gelang es ihm, das Alltägliche mit einem Moment des Rätselhaften zu kombinieren: Farbe wurde gleichzeitig zum Element und Möglichkeit, die Realität zu durchdringen und überprüfen zu können.
C/O Berlin präsentiert mit der Ausstellung William Eggleston . Mystery of the Ordinary erstmals unentdeckte Arbeiten im Dialog mit bekannten Serien.

Comment percevons-nous le monde et que serait-il sans couleur ? En tant que forme d'expression artistique, la couleur a longtemps été mal vue dans la photographie - on travaillait en noir et blanc. À partir des années 1960, de plus en plus de photographes ont découvert de nouvelles possibilités de création en photographie couleur. Rares sont ceux qui ont utilisé la pellicule couleur de manière aussi radicale et novatrice que le photographe américain William Eggleston, qui a ainsi influencé des générations entières de photographes. Très tôt, Eggleston a reconnu la force incomparable et les possibilités de composition uniques de capturer des mondes d'images entiers grâce aux nuances de couleurs. Comme aucun autre, il est parvenu à combiner le quotidien avec un moment de mystère : La couleur est devenue à la fois un élément et une possibilité de pénétrer la réalité et de la vérifier.
C/O Berlin présente avec l'exposition William Eggleston . Mystery of the Ordinary. Pour la première fois, des œuvres non découvertes dialoguent avec des séries connues.

Come percepiamo il mondo e cosa sarebbe senza colori? Per molto tempo il colore non è stato considerato una forma di espressione artistica nell'ambito della fotografia: si lavorava in bianco e nero. A partire dagli anni '60, sempre più fotografi scoprirono le nuove possibilità creative della fotografia a colori. Quasi nessuno, tuttavia, ha utilizzato la pellicola a colori in modo così radicale e innovativo come il fotografo americano William Eggleston, che ha influenzato intere generazioni di fotografi. Eggleston ha riconosciuto presto il potere inconfondibile e le possibilità compositive uniche di catturare interi mondi pittorici attraverso le sfumature di colore. Come nessun altro, è riuscito a combinare il quotidiano con un momento di mistero: Il colore diventa un elemento e una possibilità di penetrare e verificare la realtà.
Con la mostra William Eggleston . Mystery of the Ordinary, C/O Berlin presenta per la prima volta opere inedite in dialogo con serie note.

How do we perceive the world and what would it be without color? Color was long frowned upon as a form of artistic expression within photography - people worked in black and white. Starting in the 1960s, more and more photographers discovered new creative possibilities of color photography. Hardly anyone, however, used color film as radically and groundbreakingly as the American photographer William Eggleston, who influenced entire generations of photographers. Eggleston recognized early on the unmistakable power and unique compositional possibilities of capturing entire pictorial worlds through color nuances. Like no other, he succeeded in combining the everyday with a moment of mystery: Color became both an element and a possibility to penetrate and verify reality.
With the exhibition William Eggleston . Mystery of the Ordinary for the first time undiscovered works in dialogue with well-known series.
