Nach der Sommerausstellung zum Thema "Reise in Schwarz und Weiß" zeigt die Galerie Bigaignon eine Einzelausstellung des Künstlers Bernard Joubert mit historischen Werken, die in den 1970er Jahren entstanden sind und zum allerersten Mal in einem Dialog zwischen Fotografie und Malerei gezeigt werden.
Der 1946 in Paris geborene Bernard Joubert ist ein bekannter bildender Künstler. Er ist für seine minimalistischen Gemälde bekannt. Seine erste Einzelausstellung fand 1974 in der berühmten Galerie Yvon Lambert in Paris statt. Von Anfang an malte der Künstler auf freien Leinwänden und zog die Farblinien meist direkt mit der Farbtube nach. Ab 1973 verließ er den Rahmen der Leinwand und begann, eine Reihe von Bändern zu malen. Fast zehn Jahre lang begrenzen diese auf Baumwollbändern gemalten farbigen Linien geometrische Flächen, ohne dass diese Flächen geschlossen sind.
Diese Bänder bilden zusammen mit einer Reihe von Fotografien, die zwischen 1974 und 1977 entstanden sind und zum ersten Mal ausgestellt werden, den Rhythmus der Szenografie im Glasdach der Pariser Galerie. Sie werden ab dem 1. September 2023 im Rahmen des Festivals Les Traversées du Marais erstmals gezeigt.
"In seinen Fotografien will Bernard Joubert "eine Figur erfinden, ohne sie herzustellen", wie er es ausdrückt: Das ist die Macht der Fotografie und das, worin sie mit seiner Malerei verwandt ist. Seine Fotografien werden so zu ontologischen Rebussen. Für immer aktuelle Rätsel der Erfahrung des figuralen Sichtbaren, heute gespenstische Bilder, die das, was wir über das zeitgenössische Gemälde wissen, heimsuchen", erklärt uns Michel Poivert im Vorwort des zu diesem Anlass herausgegebenen Buches.
Der Künstler folgt stets demselben Protokoll und erfindet eine Figur, indem er in den Straßen von Paris, New York, Brüssel und Venedig ein 200 × 4,5 cm großes Rechteck fotografiert, das von einem weißen und einem schwarzen Band begrenzt wird.
Bernard Jouberts Arbeiten waren Gegenstand zahlreicher Ausstellungen in Europa und den USA. Seine Gemälde und Zeichnungen sind seit langem bereits in den Sammlungen des MoMA in New York und des Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris sowie insbesondere in der Sammlung Panza di Biumo in Italien vertreten. Thierry Bigaignon fügte hinzu: "Es handelt sich um eine historische Arbeit, die gleichzeitig repräsentativ für die kreativen 1970er Jahre und insbesondere für Bernard Jouberts "Minimal"-Periode ist, in der er nicht nur die Malerei mit diesen Bändern dekonstruierte, sondern auch Installation, Street Art und Fotografie miteinander verband, indem er die Bänder im öffentlichen Raum aufstellte und sie in erhabenen Kompositionen fotografierte. Diese Silberdrucke aus der Zeit sind außergewöhnlich, also mussten sie endlich gezeigt werden.
Die Ausstellung wird eines der konzeptuellsten Werke des Künstlers mit dem Titel "Ligne virtuelle bleue" zeigen. Ein Künstlerbuch, das in einer Auflage von nur 200 Exemplaren erschienen ist, wird die Ausstellung ergänzen. Entdecken Sie es ab dem Herbst!
Après l’exposition estivale sur la thématique du « Voyage en noir et blanc », la galerie Bigaignon propose une exposition personnelle de l’artiste Bernard Joubert avec des oeuvres historiques réalisées dans les années 70 et montrées pour la toute première fois dans un dialogue entre photographie et peinture.
Né à Paris en 1946, Bernard Joubert est un artiste plasticien de renom. Connu pour ses peintures minimales, sa première exposition personnelle a lieu en 1974 dans la célèbre galerie Yvon Lambert à Paris. Dès ses débuts, l’artiste peint sur des toiles libres, traçant le plus souvent directement au tube de peinture des lignes de couleur. À partir de 1973, il sort du cadre de la toile et commence à peindre une série de rubans. Pendant près de dix ans, ces lignes colorées peintes sur rubans de coton viendront délimiter des surfaces géométriques, sans que ces surfaces soient closes.
Ce sont ces rubans qui viendront rythmer la scénographie dans l’espace sous verrière de la galerie parisienne aux côtés d’une série de photographies produites entre 1974 et 1977 et exposées pour la toute première fois. Elles seront présentées en avant-première dès le 1er septembre 2023 dans le cadre du Festival des Traversées du Marais.
« Dans ses photographies, Bernard Joubert a la volonté d’“Inventer une figure sans la fabriquer” selon ses termes : voilà le pouvoir de la photographie, et ce en quoi elle entretient avec sa peinture un cousinage. Ses photographies deviennent ainsi des rébus ontologiques. Énigmes à jamais actuelles de l’expérience du visible figural, images aujourd’hui spectrales venant hanter ce que nous savons du tableau contemporain », nous explique Michel Poivert dans la préface du livre édité pour l’occasion.
L’artiste suit toujours le même protocole et invente une figure en photographiant, dans les rues de Paris, New York, Bruxelles et Venise un rectangle de 200 × 4,5 cm délimité par un ruban blanc et un ruban noir.
Le travail de Bernard Joubert a fait l’objet de nombreuses expositions en Europe et aux États-Unis. Ses peintures et dessins sont de longue date déjà présentes dans les collections du MoMA à New York et du Musée d’Art Moderne de la ville de Paris, et dans la collection Panza di Biumo en Italie notamment. Et Thierry Bigaignon d’ajouter : « Il s’agit là d’un travail historique, à la fois représentatif des années 1970, décennie particulièrement créative, et plus précisément de la période « minimale » de Bernard Joubert, période pendant laquelle, non content de déconstruire la peinture avec ces rubans, il s’est attelé à conjuguer installation, street art et photographie en disposant ces rubans dans l’espace public et en les photographiant dans de sublimes compositions. Ces tirages argentiques d’époque sont exceptionnels, il fallait donc enfin les montrer ».
L’exposition dévoilera l’une des oeuvres les plus conceptuelles de l’artiste intitulée « Ligne virtuelle bleue ». Un livre d’artiste édité à 200 exemplaires seulement complètera l’exposition. À découvrir dès la rentrée !
Dopo la mostra estiva sul tema "Viaggio in bianco e nero", la Galerie Bigaignon presenta una personale dell'artista Bernard Joubert, con opere storiche realizzate negli anni Settanta e presentate per la prima volta in un dialogo tra fotografia e pittura.
Nato a Parigi nel 1946, Bernard Joubert è un rinomato artista visivo. Conosciuto per i suoi dipinti minimalisti, la sua prima mostra personale si è tenuta nel 1974 presso la rinomata galleria Yvon Lambert di Parigi. Fin dall'inizio, l'artista dipingeva su tele sciolte, di solito tracciando linee di colore direttamente con un tubetto di vernice. A partire dal 1973, abbandona la tela e inizia a dipingere una serie di nastri. Per quasi dieci anni, queste linee colorate dipinte su nastri di cotone delineano superfici geometriche, senza che queste siano chiuse.
Saranno proprio questi nastri a ritmare la scenografia nello spazio vetrato della galleria parigina, insieme a una serie di fotografie realizzate tra il 1974 e il 1977 ed esposte per la prima volta. Saranno presentate in anteprima dal 1° settembre 2023 nell'ambito del Festival Traversées du Marais.
"Nelle sue fotografie, Bernard Joubert mira a "Inventare una figura senza fabbricarla", come dice lui stesso: questo è il potere della fotografia e il modo in cui si relaziona con la sua pittura. Le sue fotografie diventano così enigmi ontologici. Enigmi che sono sempre rilevanti per l'esperienza del visibile figurale, immagini ormai spettrali che infestano ciò che conosciamo della pittura contemporanea", spiega Michel Poivert nella prefazione al libro pubblicato per l'occasione.
L'artista segue sempre lo stesso protocollo, inventando una figura fotografando, nelle strade di Parigi, New York, Bruxelles e Venezia, un rettangolo di 200 × 4,5 cm delimitato da un nastro bianco e uno nero.
Il lavoro di Bernard Joubert è stato esposto ampiamente in Europa e negli Stati Uniti. I suoi dipinti e disegni fanno da tempo parte delle collezioni del MoMA di New York e del Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, oltre che della collezione Panza di Biumo in Italia. Thierry Bigaignon aggiunge: "Si tratta di un'opera storica, rappresentativa degli anni Settanta, un decennio particolarmente creativo, e più precisamente del periodo "minimal" di Bernard Joubert, durante il quale, oltre a decostruire la pittura con questi nastri, egli si accinse a combinare l'installazione, la street art e la fotografia, collocando questi nastri negli spazi pubblici e fotografandoli in composizioni sublimi. Queste stampe d'argento vintage sono eccezionali, quindi dovevamo finalmente mostrarle".
La mostra presenterà una delle opere più concettuali dell'artista, intitolata "Ligne virtuelle bleue". Un libro d'artista, limitato a 200 copie, completerà la mostra. Da scoprire a settembre!
Following the summer exhibition on the theme of "Voyage en noir et blanc", Galerie Bigaignon presents a solo show by artist Bernard Joubert, featuring historic works produced in the 1970s and shown for the very first time in a dialogue between photography and painting.
Born in Paris in 1946, Bernard Joubert is a renowned visual artist. Known for his minimalist paintings, his first solo show took place in 1974 at the renowned Yvon Lambert gallery in Paris. From the outset, Joubert painted on loose canvases, usually tracing lines of color directly with a paint tube. From 1973 onwards, he left the canvas and began to paint a series of ribbons. For almost ten years, these colored lines painted on cotton ribbons would delineate geometric surfaces, without these surfaces being closed.
It is these ribbons that will punctuate the scenography in the glass-roofed space of the Paris gallery, alongside a series of photographs produced between 1974 and 1977 and exhibited for the very first time. They will be previewed from September 1, 2023, as part of the Traversées du Marais Festival.
"In his photographs, Bernard Joubert aims to "Invent a figure without fabricating it", as he puts it: this is the power of photography, and how it relates to his painting. His photographs thus become ontological puzzles. Forever current enigmas of the experience of the visible figural, today's spectral images haunt what we know of contemporary painting," explains Michel Poivert in the preface to the book published for the occasion.
The artist always follows the same protocol, inventing a figure by photographing, in the streets of Paris, New York, Brussels and Venice, a 200 × 4.5 cm rectangle delimited by a white and a black ribbon.
Bernard Joubert's work has been exhibited extensively in Europe and the United States. His paintings and drawings have long been part of the collections of MoMA in New York and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as the Panza di Biumo collection in Italy. Thierry Bigaignon adds: "This is a historic work, both representative of the 1970s, a particularly creative decade, and more specifically of Bernard Joubert's "minimal" period, during which, not content with deconstructing painting with these ribbons, he set about combining installation, street art and photography, arranging these ribbons in public spaces and photographing them in sublime compositions. These vintage silver prints are exceptional, so we had to show them at last".
The exhibition will unveil one of the artist's most conceptual works, entitled "Ligne virtuelle bleue". An artist's book, limited to 200 copies, will complete the exhibition. To be discovered in September!
