Sie macht Fotokunst ganz eigener Art und gilt als bemerkenswertes neues Talent: Nhu Xuan Hua, 1989 in Paris als Tochter einer vietnamesisch-stämmigen Familie geboren, hat sich als Mode- und Porträtfotografin international einen Namen gemacht. Sie arbeitet für Magazine wie Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, Dazed Beauty und TIME Magazine sowie für große Fashionmarken wie Dior, Kenzo und Levi‘s. Die Ausstellung NHU XUAN HUA. HUG OF A SWAN konzentriert sich auf das künstlerische Schaffen der Fotografin und unterstreicht dessen faszinierende Vielseitigkeit.
In all ihren Fotografien, Objekten und Installationen beschäftigt sie sich mit globalen Themen wie Identität, Herkunft und Familiengeschichte. Die Ausstellung NHU XUAN HUA. HUG OF A SWAN zeigt, dass Nhu Xuan Huas beauftragten Arbeiten ebenso wie ihre freien inhaltlich eng miteinander verwoben sind – trotz höchst unterschiedlicher Ausdrucksformen. Denn ihre Inspiration bezieht die Fotografin immer aus persönlichen und familiär geteilten Erinnerungen.
Nhu Xuan Huas Familie floh nach dem Vietnamkrieg (1955–1975) nach Belgien und Frankreich, wo Hua geboren wurde. Nachdem sie ihr Elternhaus verlassen hatte, fühlte sie sich zunehmend von ihren Wurzeln abgeschnitten. Also befragte sie Familienmitglieder zu ihrer Vergangenheit, in der Hoffnung, die Lücke zu schließen und etwas über sich selbst zu erfahren. Die künstlerische Antwort auf diese Recherche ist im Fotografie Forum Frankfurt zu sehen: speziell für die Ausstellung entworfene Installationen, Objekte und digital manipulierte Fotografien, die von Familienfotos inspiriert sind.
Nhu Xuan Hua schloss 2011 den Fotografiekurs an der Kunstakademie Auguste Renoir in Paris ab. Eines ihrer berühmtesten Fotoshootings war Cover des TIME Magazine im Jahr 2018; für das Titelthema „Leaders of the next generation“ hatte Hua die K-Pop-Band BTS fotografiert. 2022 erschien Tropism, Nhu Xuan Huas erste Monografie (bei Area Books, Paris). Das Buch ist während der Ausstellung im FFF erhältlich.
Das Fotografie Forum Frankfurt präsentiert die Ausstellung NHU XUAN HUA. HUG OF A SWAN in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography, Amsterdam (HMA). Dort war das Werk der Fotokünstlerin 2022 erstmals überhaupt in einem Museum zu sehen. Kuratiert wurde die Ausstellung von Nhu Xuan Hua zusammen mit Nanda van den Berg (Direktorin, HMA) und Désirée Kroep (Junior-Kuratorin, HMA).
Elle fait de l'art photographique d'un genre très particulier et est considérée comme un nouveau talent remarquable : Nhu Xuan Hua, née en 1989 à Paris dans une famille d'origine vietnamienne, s'est fait un nom au niveau international en tant que photographe de mode et de portraits. Elle travaille pour des magazines comme Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, Dazed Beauty et TIME Magazine, ainsi que pour de grandes marques de mode comme Dior, Kenzo et Levi's. L'exposition NHU XUAN HUA. HUG OF A SWAN se concentre sur le travail artistique de la photographe et souligne sa fascinante polyvalence.
Dans toutes ses photographies, objets et installations, elle s'intéresse à des thèmes globaux tels que l'identité, l'origine et l'histoire familiale. L'exposition NHU XUAN HUA. HUG OF A SWAN montre que les travaux commandés par Nhu Xuan Hua, tout comme ses œuvres libres, sont étroitement imbriqués les uns dans les autres, malgré des formes d'expression très différentes. En effet, la photographe puise toujours son inspiration dans des souvenirs personnels et familiaux partagés.
Après la guerre du Vietnam (1955-1975), la famille de Nhu Xuan Hua s'est réfugiée en Belgique et en France, où Hua est née. Après avoir quitté la maison familiale, elle s'est sentie de plus en plus coupée de ses racines. Elle a donc interrogé des membres de sa famille sur son passé, dans l'espoir de combler ce vide et d'en apprendre plus sur elle-même. La réponse artistique à cette recherche est présentée au Fotografie Forum Frankfurt : des installations spécialement conçues pour l'exposition, des objets et des photographies manipulées numériquement, inspirés de photos de famille.
Nhu Xuan Hua a été diplômée en 2011 du cours de photographie de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts Auguste Renoir à Paris. L'une de ses séances photo les plus célèbres a été la couverture de TIME Magazine en 2018 ; pour le thème de couverture "Leaders de la prochaine génération", Hua avait photographié le groupe de K-pop BTS. En 2022, Tropism, la première monographie de Nhu Xuan Hua, est parue (chez Area Books, Paris). Le livre est disponible au FFF pendant l'exposition.
Le Fotografie Forum Frankfurt présente l'exposition NHU XUAN HUA. HUG OF A SWAN en étroite collaboration avec Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography, Amsterdam (HMA). Infatti, la fotografa trae sempre ispirazione da ricordi personali e familiari condivisi.
La famiglia di Nhu Xuan Hua è fuggita in Belgio e in Francia dopo la guerra del Vietnam (1955-1975), dove Hua è nata. Dopo aver lasciato la casa dei genitori, si è sentita sempre più lontana dalle sue radici. Così ha intervistato i membri della famiglia sul suo passato, sperando di colmare il vuoto e di imparare qualcosa su se stessa. La risposta artistica a questa ricerca è visibile al Fotografie Forum di Francoforte: installazioni, oggetti e fotografie manipolate digitalmente ispirate alle foto di famiglia, appositamente progettate per la mostra.
Nhu Xuan Hua si è diplomata nel 2011 al corso di fotografia dell'Accademia d'Arte Auguste Renoir di Parigi. Uno dei suoi servizi fotografici più famosi è stata la copertina di TIME Magazine nel 2018; per il tema della copertina "Leaders of the next generation", Hua ha fotografato il gruppo K-pop BTS. For the photographer always draws her inspiration from personal and family shared memories.
Nhu Xuan Hua's family fled to Belgium and France after the Vietnam War (1955-1975), where Hua was born. After leaving her childhood home, she felt increasingly cut off from her roots. So she interviewed family members about her past, hoping to bridge the gap and learn something about herself. The artistic response to this research is on view at Fotografie Forum Frankfurt: installations, objects, and digitally manipulated photographs inspired by family photos designed especially for the exhibition.
