Lebohang Kganye konzentriert sich auf die Erforschung der persönlichen und kollektiven "Mikrogeschichten" ihrer Familie. Ihre Arbeit ist eingebettet in die breitere Geschichte Südafrikas vor, während und nach der Apartheid und dem Kolonialismus. Die Ausstellung zeigt das komplexe visuelle Vokabular der Künstlerin und die Vielfalt der Medien und Herangehensweisen, mit denen sie arbeitet - von Fotomontagen bis zu Rauminstallationen, von Filmanimationen bis zu Patchwork.
Die Idee der Heimat
Kganye bewegt sich mühelos in der Sphäre der Möglichkeiten und entwickelt Methoden zur Dekolonialisierung des Mediums Fotografie und des südafrikanischen Kulturerbes.
Haufi nyana?" bedeutet "Zu nah?" in Sesotho, einer der elf offiziellen Sprachen Südafrikas. Der Titel der Ausstellung bezieht sich auf die Art des Dialogs zwischen einem Betrachter und dem Künstler: Wie weit kann man sich einerseits auf eine fotografische Autobiografie einlassen und wie sehr kann man andererseits eine persönliche Geschichte teilen? Es bezieht sich auch auf die Idee von "Heimat" - die weit weg, nah oder zu nah sein kann... vielleicht sogar gleichzeitig.
Lebohang Kganye (1990, Johannesburg, SA) erhielt ihre Einführung in die Fotografie beim Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg im Jahr 2009 und schloss das Programm für fortgeschrittene Fotografie im Jahr 2011 ab. Sie erwarb 2014 ein Diplom in Bildender Kunst an der Universität von Johannesburg und macht derzeit ihren Master in Bildender Kunst an der Witwatersrand University. Neben dem Foam Paul Huf Award 2022 erhielt sie in jüngster Zeit unter anderem den Grand Prix Images Vevey 2021/22, den Paulo Cunha e Silva Art Prize 2020 und den Camera Austria Award of 2019.
Lebohang Kganye s'attache à explorer les "micro-histoires" personnelles et collectives de sa famille. Son travail s'inscrit dans l'histoire plus large de l'Afrique du Sud, avant, pendant et après l'apartheid et le colonialisme. L'exposition montre le vocabulaire visuel complexe de l'artiste et la diversité des médias et des approches qu'elle utilise - des montages photographiques à l'installation spatiale, et de l'animation cinématographique au patchwork.
L'idée du foyer
Se déplaçant avec aisance dans la sphère des possibilités, Kganye développe des méthodes de décolonisation du médium de la photographie et du patrimoine culturel sud-africain.
Haufi nyana ?" signifie "Trop près ?" en sesotho, l'une des onze langues officielles de l'Afrique du Sud. Le titre de l'exposition fait référence à la nature du dialogue entre un spectateur et l'artiste : jusqu'où peut-on entrer dans une autobiographie photographique d'une part, et jusqu'où peut-on partager une histoire personnelle d'autre part ? Cela renvoie également à l'idée de "chez soi", qui peut être loin, proche ou trop proche... peut-être même simultanément.
Lebohang Kganye (1990, Johannesburg, SA) s'est initiée à la photographie au Market Photo Workshop de Johannesburg en 2009 et a suivi le programme avancé de photographie en 2011. Effortlessly moving within the sphere of possibilities, Kganye develops methods of decolonizing the medium of photography and South African cultural heritage.
‘Haufi nyana?’ means ‘Too close?’ in Sesotho, one of the eleven official languages of South Africa. The exhibition title refers to the nature of the dialogue between a viewer and the artist: how far can one enter a photographic autobiography on the one hand, and how much can one share a personal story on the other? It also refers to the idea of ‘home’ — which can be far, close, or too close… perhaps even simultaneously.
