Die Ausstellung VALIE EXPORT – Die Fotografien stellt erstmals das fotografische Oeuvre der Künstlerin VALIE EXPORT (*1940), die insbesondere mit ihren teils provozierenden Performances und experimentellen Installationen für Aufsehen sorgte, in den Mittelpunkt. Die Fotografien sowie die Gegenüberstellung fotografischer und nichtfotografischer Medien an der Schnittstelle von Film, Videokunst und Body-Art erlauben eine neue Perspektive auf das Schaffen von EXPORT.
Ob zu dokumentarischen Zwecken, als Experiment, als Bestandteil multimedialer Installationen oder als eigenständiges Werk: Die Fotografie spielt im Schaffen der Medienund Performancekünstlerin eine zentrale Rolle. EXPORT fertigte ab den 1970er-Jahren, also bereits zu Beginn ihrer Karriere, fotografische Serien an, die sich der kritischen Untersuchung von Abbildungsprozessen widmen. Mit ihren Konzeptfotografien analysiert EXPORT die Funktions-, Darstellungs- und Wahrnehmungsweise von Bildern und Massenmedien.
In ihrer experimentellen Herangehensweise erkundet die Künstlerin die Fotografie auf vielfältige Art. Sie integriert Besonderheiten sowie Merkmale anderer Medien und Kunstformen in ihre Arbeit mit der Fotografie oder verwendet die Fotokamera zum Teil entgegen ihrer technischen Möglichkeiten, wobei EXPORT die Grenzen zwischen medialen Genres durchbricht. Dabei untersucht die Künstlerin gesellschaftspolitische und feministische Fragestellungen: Im Zentrum ihres Werks steht das Verhältnis von Subjekt und Raum, Körper und Blick, Weiblichkeit und Repräsentation.
Die Ausstellung wird kuratiert von Walter Moser und ist eine Kooperation mit der Albertina, Wien.
L'exposition VALIE EXPORT - Les photographies transmet pour la première fois l'œuvre photographique de l'artiste VALIE EXPORT (*1940), qui a notamment fait sensation avec ses performances parfois provocantes et ses installations expérimentales. Les photographies ainsi que la confrontation de médias photographiques et non photographiques, à la croisée du film, de l'art vidéo et du body art, permettent d'ouvrir une nouvelle perspective sur l'œuvre d'EXPORT.
Que ce soit à des fins documentaires, expérimentales, en tant que partie intégrante d'installations multimédias ou en tant qu'œuvre autonome, la photographie joue un rôle central dans l'œuvre de l'artiste médiatique et de performance. Dès les années 1970, c'est-à-dire dès le début de sa carrière, EXPORT a réalisé des séries photographiques consacrées à l'étude critique des processus de représentation. Avec ses photographies conceptuelles, EXPORT analyse les modes de fonctionnement, de représentation et de perception des visuels et des médias de masse.
Dans son approche expérimentale, l'artiste explore la photographie de diverses manières. Elle intègre les particularités ainsi que les caractéristiques d'autres médias et formes d'art dans son travail avec la photographie ou utilise l'appareil photo en partie à l'encontre de ses possibilités techniques, EXPORT brisant ainsi les frontières entre les genres médiatiques. Ce faisant, l'artiste explore des questions sociopolitiques et féministes : Au cœur de son œuvre se trouve la relation entre le sujet et l'espace, le corps et le regard, la féminité et la représentation.
L'exposition est organisée par Walter Moser et est le fruit d'une coopération avec l'Albertina, Vienne.
La mostra VALIE EXPORT - The Photographs si concentra per la prima volta sull'opera fotografica dell'artista VALIE EXPORT (*1940), che ha fatto scalpore soprattutto per le sue performance talvolta provocatorie e le sue installazioni sperimentali. Le fotografie e l'accostamento di media fotografici e non fotografici all'interfaccia tra film, videoarte e body art permettono di aprire una nuova prospettiva sul lavoro di EXPORT.
Che sia a scopo documentario, come esperimento, come componente di installazioni multimediali o come opera indipendente, la fotografia svolge un ruolo centrale nel lavoro dei media e dei performance artist. A partire dagli anni Settanta, cioè già all'inizio della sua carriera, EXPORT realizza serie fotografiche dedicate all'indagine critica dei processi di rappresentazione. Con le sue fotografie concettuali, EXPORT analizza il modo in cui le immagini e i mass media funzionano, sono rappresentati e percepiti.
Nel suo approccio sperimentale, l'artista esplora la fotografia in molti modi diversi. Integra nel suo lavoro con la fotografia peculiarità e caratteristiche di altri media e forme d'arte o talvolta utilizza la macchina fotografica contro le sue possibilità tecniche, per cui EXPORT supera i confini tra i generi mediatici. In questo modo, l'artista esplora questioni socio-politiche e femministe: Al centro del suo lavoro c'è la relazione tra soggetto e spazio, corpo e sguardo, femminilità e rappresentazione.
La mostra è curata da Walter Moser e nasce dalla collaborazione con l'Albertina di Vienna.
The exhibition VALIE EXPORT - The Photographs focuses for the first time on the photographic oeuvre of the artist VALIE EXPORT (*1940), who caused a sensation in particular with her sometimes provocative performances and experimental installations. The photographs, as well as the juxtaposition of photographic and non-photographic media at the intersection of film, video art, and body art, allow a new perspective on EXPORT's oeuvre.
Whether for documentary purposes, as an experiment, as a component of multimedia installations, or as an independent work, photography plays a central role in the work of the media and performance artist. Beginning in the 1970s, i.e., at the very beginning of her career, EXPORT produced photographic series dedicated to the critical investigation of processes of representation. With her conceptual photographs, EXPORT analyzes the ways in which images and mass media function, are represented, and are perceived.
In her experimental approach, the artist explores photography in a variety of ways. She integrates peculiarities as well as characteristics of other media and art forms into her work with photography or uses the photographic camera partly against its technical possibilities, whereby EXPORT breaks through the boundaries between media genres. In doing so, the artist explores sociopolitical and feminist issues: Her work focuses on the relationship between subject and space, body and gaze, femininity and representation.
The exhibition is curated by Walter Moser and is a cooperation with the Albertina, Vienna.
