CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia di Torino und die Weinkellerei Garesio präsentieren Cultus Langarum, eine unveröffentlichte Produktion, die in den Langhe von Olga Cafiero (1982) realisiert wurde, der Gewinnerin der ersten Ausgabe des Garesio Wine Prize for Documentary Photography, dem neuen Preis, der von der Weinkellerei und dem Resort in Serralunga d'Alba ins Leben gerufen wurde und der Förderung junger Talente der internationalen zeitgenössischen Fotografie gewidmet ist. Die von Giangavino Pazzola kuratierte und vom EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival geförderte Ausstellung besteht aus fünf Fotoserien, die die Landschaft der Langhe del Barolo aus morphologischer und kultureller Sicht untersuchen und im Project Room von CAMERA ausgestellt werden.

Die Werke von Cafiero entstanden während ihres Aufenthalts im Garesio Wine Resort in Serralunga d'Alba, wo die schweizerisch-italienische Fotografin die Besonderheiten der Region analysierte und Beziehungen zu den wichtigsten kulturellen und zivilgesellschaftlichen Institutionen der Gegend knüpfte. Sie erkunden die Geschichte, die Persönlichkeiten und die lokale Weinkultur auch anhand von Dokumenten und Archivmaterial. Gleichzeitig bieten sie vielfältige Blickwinkel auf das Thema soziale und territoriale Innovation durch die Kombination verschiedener visueller Register, die die komplexe Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Umwelt erzählen: von Luftaufnahmen über Off-Camera-Aufnahmen entlang der Weinreben bis hin zu Aufnahmen mit beweglichen Kameras und digitalen Scans.

Die Arbeit setzt die Untersuchung der für Cafieros künstlerische Forschung typischen Beziehung zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft fort, die sich in einem umfangreichen Bildkorpus niederschlägt, der sowohl in seiner wissenschaftlichen Herangehensweise als auch in seiner visuellen Umsetzung streng ist und in dem die Begegnung zwischen Botanik, Geschichte und Fotografie einen neuen, multidisziplinären Blick auf die Verbindung zwischen Wein und Territorium eröffnet. Jede Serie ist zwar eigenständig, zeichnet sich jedoch durch einen einheitlichen Ansatz aus, der die Materialität der Bilder und ihre Fähigkeit, komplexe Phänomene in visuelle Erfahrungen zu übersetzen, hinterfragt. In diesen Serien entstehen überraschende Dialoge zwischen Natur, Technologie und Geschichte, die verborgene Erzählungen oder unmerkliche Details offenbaren.

CAMERA - Centre italien pour la photographie de Turin et l'Azienda Vinicola Garesio présentent Cultus Langarum, une production inédite réalisée dans les Langhe par Olga Cafiero (1982), artiste lauréate de la première édition du Garesio Wine Prize for Documentary Photography, le nouveau prix créé par la cave et le resort de Serralunga d'Alba, dédié à la promotion des jeunes talents de la photographie contemporaine internationale. L'exposition, organisée par Giangavino Pazzola et promue par EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival, se compose de cinq séries photographiques qui explorent le paysage des Langhe del Barolo, d'un point de vue morphologique et culturel, et qui seront exposées dans la Project Room de CAMERA.

Réalisées pendant la résidence à la Garesio Wine Resort de Serralunga d'Alba de la cave Garesio, au cours de laquelle la photographe italo-suisse a analysé les caractéristiques du territoire et établi des relations avec les principales institutions culturelles et civiles de la région, les œuvres de Cafiero explorent l'histoire, les personnages et la culture œnologique locale, notamment à travers l'utilisation de documents et de matériaux d'archives. En même temps, elles offrent de multiples points de vue sur le thème de l'innovation sociale et territoriale à travers la combinaison de différents registres visuels qui racontent la relation complexe entre l'homme et l'environnement : de la photographie aérienne aux processus hors caméra réalisés le long des rangées de vignes, des enregistrements de caméras en mouvement aux scans numériques.

Le travail se poursuit dans l'exploration de la relation entre l'art et la science, caractéristique de la recherche artistique de Cafiero, rendue par un corpus d'images aussi rigoureux dans son approche scientifique que poétique dans son rendu visuel, où la rencontre entre la botanique, l'histoire et la photographie donne naissance à un regard inédit et multidisciplinaire sur le lien entre le vin et le territoire. Chaque série, bien que distincte, met en évidence une approche unitaire qui remet en question la matérialité des images et leur capacité à traduire des phénomènes complexes en expériences visuelles. Il en ressort des dialogues surprenants entre la nature, la technologie et l'histoire, qui révèlent des récits cachés ou des détails imperceptibles.

La mostra, a cura di Giangavino Pazzola e promossa da EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival, si compone di cinque serie fotografiche che indagano il paesaggio delle Langhe del Barolo, dal punto di vista morfologico e culturale, che saranno esposte nella Project Room di CAMERA.

Realizzate nel periodo di residenza al Garesio Wine Resort di Serralunga d’Alba della cantina Garesio, durante il quale la fotografa svizzero-italiana ha analizzato le caratteristiche del territorio e instaurato relazioni con le principali istituzioni culturali e civili della zona, le opere di Cafiero esplorano la storia, i personaggi e la cultura enologica locale anche attraverso l’uso di documenti e materiali di archivio. Allo stesso tempo, esse offrono molteplici punti di vista sul tema dell’innovazione sociale e territoriale attraverso la combinazione di diversi registri visivi che raccontano il complesso rapporto tra uomo e ambiente: dalla fotografia aerea ai processi off camera realizzati lungo i filari delle vigne, dalle registrazioni di camere in movimento alle scansioni digitali.

Il lavoro prosegue nell’indagine del rapporto tra arte e scienza tipico della ricerca artistica di Cafiero, resa da un nutrito corpus di immagini tanto rigoroso nell’approccio scientifico quanto poetico nella sua resa visiva, in cui l’incontro tra botanica, storia e fotografia dà vita a uno sguardo inedito e multidisciplinare sul legame tra vino e territorio. Ogni serie, sebbene distinta, evidenzia un approccio unitario che mette in discussione la materialità delle immagini e la loro capacità di tradurre fenomeni complessi in esperienze visive. Emergono in queste serie sorprendenti dialoghi tra natura, tecnologia e storia, che rivelano narrazioni nascoste o dettagli impercettibili.

CAMERA - Italian Centre for Photography in Turin and the Garesio Winery present Cultus Langarum, a new production created in the Langhe by Olga Cafiero (1982), winner of the first edition of the Garesio Wine Prize for Documentary Photography, the new award established by the Serralunga d'Alba winery and resort dedicated to promoting young talents in international contemporary photography. The exhibition, curated by Giangavino Pazzola and promoted by EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival, consists of five photographic series that explore the landscape of the Langhe del Barolo from a morphological and cultural point of view, which will be on display in CAMERA's Project Room.

Created during a residency at the Garesio Wine Resort in Serralunga d'Alba, owned by the Garesio winery, during which the Swiss-Italian photographer analysed the characteristics of the territory and established relationships with the main cultural and civil institutions in the area, Cafiero's works explore the history, characters and local wine culture through the use of documents and archive materials. At the same time, they offer multiple perspectives on the theme of social and territorial innovation through the combination of different visual registers that recount the complex relationship between man and the environment: from aerial photography to off-camera processes carried out along the rows of vines, from recordings made with moving cameras to digital scans.

The work continues to explore the relationship between art and science that is typical of Cafiero's artistic research, rendered through a large body of images that are as rigorous in their scientific approach as they are poetic in their visual rendering, in which the encounter between botany, history and photography gives rise to a new and multidisciplinary perspective on the link between wine and territory. Although distinct, each series highlights a unified approach that questions the materiality of images and their ability to translate complex phenomena into visual experiences. Surprising dialogues between nature, technology and history emerge in these series, revealing hidden narratives or imperceptible details.
