Harald Hauswald
Schrille Punks, Hippies und küssende Pärchen in einem Meer voller Trabbis, kämpferische Fahnen und Demonstrant*innen auf dem Alexanderplatz, Betrunkene in ihrer Stammkneipe oder geduldig wartende Bürger*innen an Haltestellen – Harald Hauswalds Blick ist unverfälscht und einfühlsam. Seine Bilder sind voller Sympathie für die Menschen vor seiner Kamera. Sie behalten stets ihre Würde und stehen im Gegensatz zu dem sie umgebenden Zerfall.
Entgegen dem vorherrschenden Bild des Westens über den Osten Deutschlands dominiert von SED, Mauer oder Militärparaden liefert Harald Hauswald einmalige Momentaufnahmen und Zeugnisse des sozialistischen Alltags in der DDR, insbesondere der Entwicklung des Ostberliner Stadtraums und des Wirkens oppositioneller Gruppen. Harald Hauswald war Teil dieser Szene – er hat sie nicht nur fotografiert sondern mitgelebt. Zwischen 1977 und 1989 stand er deswegen unter der Observation von etwa 40 inoffiziellen Stasi-Mitarbeiter*innen. Im Jahr 1985 erhielt Hauswald einen Stasi-internen Haftbefehl unter anderem wegen „staatsfeindlicher Hetze“, „Agententätigkeit“ und „Weitergabe nicht geheimer Nachrichten“. Inhalte und Teile seiner Stasi-Akte sind in die Ausstellung eingewoben und ermöglichen so einen Dialog zwischen zeithistorischem Bezug, Fotografie und Werk.
Als Mitbegründer der Agentur Ostkreuz ist Harald Hauswald einer der wichtigsten Protagonisten der deutschen Fotogeschichte. In den letzten Jahren sind mehr als 7.500 seiner belichteten Filme durch den Ostkreuz-Verein für Fotografie konservatorisch gesichert und im Rahmen einer umfangreichen Projektförderung der Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur digitalisiert worden. Die in der Ausstellung Harald Hauswald . Voll das Leben! gezeigten Bilder sind als visuelle Erinnerungen deutsch-deutscher Geschichte von unschätzbarem Wert. Wegen der großen Publikumsnachfrage hat C/O Berlin die Ausstellung mit ca. 250 Fotografien, die Ende der 1970er bis Mitte der 1990er Jahre entstanden sind, in einer Neuauflage ins Programm genommen.
Die Ausstellung Harald Hauswald . Voll das Leben! wurde von Felix Hoffmann (C/O Berlin Foundation) in Zusammenarbeit mit Ute Mahler und Laura Benz (Ostkreuz) kuratiert. Sie wird begleitet von einer Publikation im Steidl Verlag.
Des punks criards, des hippies et des couples qui s'embrassent dans une mer pleine de Trabbis, des drapeaux militants et des manifestants sur l'Alexanderplatz, des ivrognes dans leur pub local ou des citoyens qui attendent patiemment aux arrêts de bus - le regard de Harald Hauswald est authentique et empathique. Ses photos sont pleines de sympathie pour les personnes qui se trouvent devant son appareil. Ils conservent toujours leur dignité et contrastent avec la décadence qui les entoure.
Contrairement à l'image qui prévaut à l'Ouest d'une Allemagne de l'Est dominée par le SED, le Mur ou les parades militaires, Harald Hauswald fournit des instantanés et des témoignages uniques de la vie socialiste quotidienne en RDA, notamment le développement de l'espace urbain de Berlin-Est et les activités des groupes d'opposition. Harald Hauswald a fait partie de cette scène - il ne s'est pas contenté de la photographier, il l'a vécue. Entre 1977 et 1989, il a donc été surveillé par une quarantaine d'employés officieux de la Stasi. En 1985, Hauswald a reçu un mandat d'arrêt interne de la Stasi pour, entre autres, "agitation anti-étatique", "activité d'agent" et "transmission de messages non secrets". Le contenu et les pièces de son dossier Stasi sont intégrés à l'exposition et permettent ainsi un dialogue entre la référence historique contemporaine, la photographie et le travail.
En tant que cofondateur de l'agence Ostkreuz, Harald Hauswald est l'un des plus importants protagonistes de l'histoire de la photographie allemande. Ces dernières années, plus de 7 500 de ses films exposés ont été conservés par l'Association pour la photographie d'Ostkreuz et numérisés dans le cadre d'un vaste projet financé par la Fondation fédérale pour la réévaluation de la dictature du SED. Les photos présentées dans l'exposition Harald Hauswald . Voll das Leben ! sont des rappels visuels inestimables de l'histoire germano-allemande. En raison de la forte demande du public, C/O Berlin a réédité l'exposition avec environ 250 photographies prises entre la fin des années 1970 et le milieu des années 1990.
L'exposition Harald Hauswald . Voll das Leben ! a été organisé par Felix Hoffmann (C/O Berlin Foundation) en collaboration avec Ute Mahler et Laura Benz (Ostkreuz). Elle est accompagnée d'une publication de Steidl Verlag.
Punk stridenti, hippy e coppie che si baciano in un mare pieno di Trabbis, bandiere militanti e manifestanti in Alexanderplatz, ubriachi nel loro pub locale o cittadini in paziente attesa alle fermate dell'autobus - lo sguardo di Harald Hauswald è genuino ed empatico. Le sue foto sono piene di simpatia per le persone davanti alla sua macchina fotografica. Conservano sempre la loro dignità e sono in contrasto con il degrado che li circonda.
Contrariamente all'immagine prevalente dell'Occidente della Germania dell'Est dominata dalla SED, dal Muro o dalle parate militari, Harald Hauswald fornisce istantanee e testimonianze uniche della vita quotidiana socialista nella RDT, in particolare lo sviluppo dello spazio urbano di Berlino Est e le attività dei gruppi di opposizione. Harald Hauswald era parte di questa scena - non solo l'ha fotografata ma l'ha vissuta. Tra il 1977 e il 1989, era quindi sotto sorveglianza da circa 40 impiegati non ufficiali della Stasi. Nel 1985, Hauswald ricevette un mandato di arresto interno alla Stasi per, tra le altre cose, "agitazione antistatale", "attività di agente" e "trasmissione di messaggi non segreti". I contenuti e le parti del suo dossier Stasi si intrecciano nella mostra e permettono così un dialogo tra riferimento storico contemporaneo, fotografia e lavoro.
Come cofondatore dell'agenzia Ostkreuz, Harald Hauswald è uno dei protagonisti più importanti della storia della fotografia tedesca. Negli ultimi anni, più di 7.500 delle sue pellicole esposte sono state conservate dall'associazione Ostkreuz per la fotografia e digitalizzate nel quadro di un ampio progetto finanziato dalla Fondazione federale per la rivalutazione della dittatura SED. Le immagini esposte nella mostra Harald Hauswald . Voll das Leben! sono inestimabili come ricordi visivi della storia tedesco-tedesca. A causa della grande richiesta del pubblico, C/O Berlin ha rieditato la mostra con circa 250 fotografie scattate dalla fine degli anni '70 alla metà degli anni '90.

Shrill punks, hippies and kissing couples in a sea full of Trabbis, militant flags and demonstrators on Alexanderplatz, drunks in their local pub or patiently waiting citizens at bus stops - Harald Hauswald's view is unadulterated and empathetic. His pictures are full of sympathy for the people in front of his camera. They always retain their dignity and stand in contrast to the decay that surrounds them.
Contrary to the West's prevailing image of East Germany dominated by the SED, the Wall or military parades, Harald Hauswald provides unique snapshots and testimonies of everyday socialist life in the GDR, especially the development of East Berlin's urban space and the activities of opposition groups. Harald Hauswald was part of this scene - he not only photographed it, but lived it. Between 1977 and 1989, he was therefore under surveillance by about 40 unofficial Stasi employees. In 1985, Hauswald received an internal Stasi arrest warrant for, among other things, "anti-state agitation," "agent activity," and "passing on unclassified messages. The contents and parts of his Stasi file are woven into the exhibition, enabling a dialogue between contemporary historical reference, photography and work.
As co-founder of the Ostkreuz agency, Harald Hauswald is one of the most important protagonists of German photographic history. In recent years, more than 7,500 of his exposed films have been conserved by the Ostkreuz Association for Photography and digitized as part of an extensive project grant from the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. The images shown in the exhibition Harald Hauswald . Voll das Leben! exhibition are invaluable as visual reminders of German-German history. Due to great public demand, C/O Berlin has reissued the exhibition with approximately 250 photographs taken from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s.
