Dieses Werk hat Cristina De Middel in Mata Atlântica, Brasilien, geschaffen, in einem Haus, in welches sie jüngst umgezogen war. Umgeben von der Natur und von Insekten, stellte Cristina De Middel fest, dass ihre Bücher und Objekte und letztlich auch sie selbst zu Eindringlingen in einem perfekt fließenden und regulierten Ökosystem wurden.
Cristina De Middel erforscht das zweideutige Verhältnis der Fotografie zur Wahrheit. Sie spielt mit Rekonstruktionen und Archetypen, um ein vielschichtigeres Verständnis der von ihr behandelten Themen zu entwickeln. De Middel geht davon aus, dass die Massenmedien unser wirkliches Verständnis der Welt, in der wir leben, einschränken, und reagiert auf die Dringlichkeit, ästhetische Metaphern neu zu erfinden und Meinungen durch Fakten zu ersetzen.
Ihr Wunsch, einen unkonventionellen Blickwinkel einzunehmen, wurde immer deutlicher, als sie sich nach einer zehnjährigen Karriere als Fotojournalistin vom reinen Dokumentarfilmschaffen entfernte. Im Jahr 2012 produzierte De Middel die hochgelobte Serie The Afronauts. Sie erforschte die Geschichte eines gescheiterten Weltraumprogramms in Sambia in den 1960er Jahren durch Nachstellungen und Dramatisierungen obskurer Erzählungen und stellte die traditionelle Darstellung des afrikanischen Kontinents in Frage.
Cette œuvre a été créée à Mata Atlântica au Brésil, dans une maison dans laquelle l'artiste avait emménagé. Entourée de nature et d'insectes, Cristina De Middel s'est aperçue que ses livres et ses objets, et finalement elle-même, devenaient des envahisseurs dans un écosystème parfaitement fluide et réglé.
Cristina De Middel explore la relation ambiguë de la photographie avec la vérité. Combinant les pratiques photographiques documentaires et conceptuelles, elle joue avec les reconstructions et les archétypes pour développer une compréhension plus stratifiée des sujets qu'elle aborde. De Middel part du principe que les médias de masse limitent notre compréhension réelle du monde dans lequel nous vivons, et répond à l'urgence de réinventer des métaphores esthétiques, et de substituer des opinions aux faits.
Son envie d'adopter un point de vue non conventionnel s'est affirmée de plus en plus, en s'éloignant de la réalisation de films uniquement documentaires, et ce après une carrière de 10 ans en tant que photojournaliste. En 2012, De Middel produit la série acclamée The Afronauts. Elle explore l'histoire de l'échec d'un programme spatial en Zambie dans les années 1960, à travers des reconstitutions,des mises en scène de récits obscurs, remettant en cause la représentation traditionnelle du continent africain.

Circondata dalla natura e dagli insetti, Cristina De Middel ha scoperto che i suoi libri e i suoi oggetti, e in definitiva se stessa, sono diventati intrusi in un ecosistema perfettamente fluido e regolato.
Cristina De Middel esplora il rapporto ambiguo della fotografia con la verità. Gioca con ricostruzioni e archetipi per sviluppare una comprensione più stratificata dei soggetti che tratta. De Middel parte dal presupposto che i mass media limitano la nostra reale comprensione del mondo in cui viviamo e risponde all'urgenza di reinventare le metafore estetiche e sostituire le opinioni con i fatti.
Il suo desiderio di adottare un punto di vista non convenzionale è diventato sempre più evidente quando si è allontanata dal puro documentario dopo una carriera decennale come fotoreporter. Nel 2012, De Middel ha prodotto l'acclamata serie The Afronauts. Ha esplorato la storia di un programma spaziale fallito in Zambia negli anni '60 attraverso rievocazioni e drammatizzazioni di narrazioni oscure, sfidando la rappresentazione tradizionale del continente africano.
Cristina De Middel created this work in Mata Atlântica, Brazil, in a house to which she had recently moved. Surrounded by nature and insects, Cristina De Middel found that her books and objects, and ultimately herself, became intruders in a perfectly flowing and regulated ecosystem.
Cristina De Middel explores photography's ambiguous relationship with truth. She plays with reconstructions and archetypes to develop a more layered understanding of the subjects she addresses. De Middel assumes that mass media limit our real understanding of the world we live in, and responds to the urgency to reinvent aesthetic metaphors and replace opinions with facts.
Her desire to take an unconventional point of view became increasingly apparent as she moved away from pure documentary filmmaking after a decade-long career as a photojournalist. In 2012, De Middel produced the highly acclaimed series The Afronauts. It explored the story of a failed space program in Zambia in the 1960s through reenactments and dramatizations of obscure narratives, challenging traditional representations of the African continent.
