Der Hangar freut sich, die erste Retrospektive des englischen Fotografen Martin Parr (*1952) in Belgien zu präsentieren. Diese Ausstellung zeichnet vierzig Jahre der Karriere des Künstlers anhand von 15 symbolträchtigen Serien nach. Über 400 farbenfrohe und skurrile Bilder voller Spaß und Ironie sind auf drei Etagen des Hangar-Kunstzentrums zu sehen.
Der moderne Satiriker Martin Parr gilt als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der zeitgenössischen Dokumentarfotografie und wird als einer der berühmtesten Fotografen der Welt gehandelt. Als "Chronist unserer Zeit" (so Thomas Weski) durchleuchtet er die Welt mit seinem verschmitzten Blick und produziert ungewöhnliche, oft überzogene oder groteske Bilder in grellen Farben.
Mit typisch englischem Humor fotografiert er die westliche Gesellschaft, die von Massenkonsum, einer unberechenbaren Wirtschaft und einem dysfunktionalen politischen Umfeld geprägt ist, mitunter schonungslos: Neben Arbeiten aus berühmten Serien wie The Last Resort, Think of England, Luxury und Common Sense sind auch seine frühen Serien zu sehen: Schlechtes Wetter und Nonkonformisten.
Le Hangar est heureux de présenter la première rétrospective en Belgique du photographe anglais Martin Parr (*1952). Cette exposition retrace quarante ans de carrière de l'artiste à travers 15 séries symboliques. Plus de 400 images colorées et décalées, pleines d'humour et d'ironie, sont présentées sur les trois étages du centre d'art Hangar.
Satiriste des temps modernes, Martin Parr est considéré comme l'un des plus importants représentants de la photographie documentaire contemporaine et est salué comme l'un des photographes les plus célèbres au monde. Chroniqueur de notre temps" (selon Thomas Weski), il scrute le monde de son regard malicieux, produisant des images insolites, souvent exagérées ou grotesques, aux couleurs criardes.
Associé à un humour typiquement anglais, il photographie la société occidentale - parfois sans pitié - façonnée par la consommation de masse, une économie imprévisible et un contexte politique dysfonctionnel.Outre des œuvres issues de séries célèbres telles que The Last Resort, Think of England, Luxury et Common Sense, l'exposition présente également ses premières séries : Bad Weather et Non Conformists.
Hangar è lieta di presentare la prima retrospettiva in Belgio del fotografo inglese Martin Parr (*1952). Questa mostra ripercorre quarant'anni di carriera dell'artista attraverso 15 serie simboliche. Più di 400 immagini colorate e stravaganti, piene di divertimento e ironia, sono esposte nei tre piani del centro d'arte Hangar.
Satirico dei giorni nostri, Martin Parr è considerato uno dei più importanti rappresentanti della fotografia documentaria contemporanea ed è salutato come uno dei fotografi più famosi del mondo. Come "cronista del nostro tempo" (così dice Thomas Weski), scruta il mondo con il suo sguardo malizioso, producendo immagini insolite, spesso esagerate o grottesche, in colori sgargianti.
Associato all'umorismo tipicamente inglese, fotografa la società occidentale - a volte in modo spietato - plasmata com'è dal consumo di massa, da un'economia imprevedibile e da uno sfondo politico disfunzionale.Oltre alle opere di serie celebri come The Last Resort, Think of England, Luxury e Common Sense, la mostra comprende anche le sue prime serie: Bad Weather e Non Conformists.
Hangar is delighted to present the first retrospective in Belgium of the English photographer, Martin Parr (*1952). This exhibition retraces forty years of the artist’s career through 15 symbolic series. Over 400 colourful and quirky images, filled with fun and irony, are displayed across the three floors of the Hangar art centre.
A modern-day satirist, Martin Parr is considered one of the most important representatives of contemporary documentary photography and is hailed as one of the most famous photographers in the world. As a “chronicler of our time” (so says Thomas Weski), he scans the world with his mischievous gaze, producing unusual images, often exaggerated or grotesque, in garish colours.
Associated with quintessentially English humour, he photographs Western society – sometimes ruthlessly – shaped as it is by mass consumption, an unpredictable economy and a dysfunctional political backdrop.In addition to works from celebrated series such as The Last Resort, Think of England, Luxury and Common Sense, the exhibition also includes his early series: Bad Weather and Non Conformists.
