Kleio Obergfell
"In der fotografischen Arbeit von Kleio Obergfell wird der Körper mit Kontrollvorrichtungen konfrontiert, die in eine bestimmte technische, soziale, kulturelle und politische Geschichte eingebettet sind. Nicht irgendein Körper: meist der weibliche Körper, ein sexueller Körper, der eine Art technisch-bio-politischen Kontrolltrieb fokussiert, für den die medizinische Institution historisch einer der Schauplätze war. Jahrhunderts entwickelt, wobei insbesondere die Elektrizität, die Automaten und die Fotografie zum Einsatz kamen. Eine bestimmte Art von "konvulsivischer Schönheit" nach der Kategorie von André Breton scheint hier am Werk zu sein. Sie würde die ästhetische Qualität dessen implizieren, was sich dem Zwang entzieht und sich paradoxerweise nicht ohne das ausdrücken könnte, was unterdrückt, aus dem einfachen Grund, dass eine völlige Exteriorität gegenüber diesen Systemen unmöglich ist".
« Dans le travail photographique de Kleio Obergfell le corps est confronté à des dispositifs de contrôle inscrits dans une histoire technique, sociale, culturelle et politique précise. Pas n’importe quel corps : corps féminin le plus souvent, corps sexué qui focalise une sorte de pulsion de contrôle techno-bio-politique dont l’institution médicale a été historiquement l’un des théâtres. Pas n’importe quels dispositifs : ceux qui se développent dans la deuxième moitié du XIXème siècle en mettant notamment à leur service l’électricité, les machines automates et la photographie. Un certain type de « beauté convulsive » selon la catégorie d’André Breton semble ici à l’œuvre. Elle impliquerait la qualité esthétique de ce qui échappe à la contrainte et qui ne pourrait paradoxalement s’exprimer sans ce qui oppresse, pour cette simple raison que l’extériorité totale vis-à-vis de ces systèmes est impossible. »
"Nel lavoro fotografico di Kleio Obergfell, il corpo si confronta con dispositivi di controllo inscritti in una precisa storia tecnica, sociale, culturale e politica. Non un corpo qualsiasi: più spesso il corpo femminile, un corpo sessuato che concentra una sorta di pulsione di controllo tecno-bio-politico di cui l'istituzione medica è stata storicamente uno dei teatri. Non dispositivi qualsiasi: quelli che si svilupparono nella seconda metà del XIX secolo, mettendo al loro servizio l'elettricità, le macchine automatiche e la fotografia. Un certo tipo di "bellezza convulsa" secondo la categoria di André Breton sembra essere all'opera qui. Implicherebbe la qualità estetica di ciò che sfugge alla costrizione e che paradossalmente non potrebbe essere espresso senza ciò che opprime, per la semplice ragione che l'esternalità totale a questi sistemi è impossibile.
"In Kleio Obergfell's photographic work, the body is confronted with devices of control inscribed in a precise technical, social, cultural and political history. Not just any body: most often the female body, a sexed body that focuses a kind of techno-bio-political control impulse of which the medical institution has historically been one of the theaters. Not any devices: those which develop in the second half of the XIXth century by putting in particular to their service the electricity, the automatons machines and the photography. A certain type of "convulsive beauty" according to the category of André Breton seems here to work. It would imply the aesthetic quality of what escapes the constraint and which could paradoxically express itself without what oppresses, for this simple reason that the total exteriority towards these systems is impossible.
