Der Meister des Surrealen kommt in die Schweiz. Im IPFO Haus der Fotografie präsentiert der amerikanische Filmregisseur und Ausnahmekünstler David Lynch erstmals eine Auswahl seiner fotografischen Werke in der Schweiz. Die Ausstellung «INFINITE DEEP» zeigt ab 26. März 2021 die gesamte Bandbreite von Lynchs Fotografien, die über zwei Jahrzehnte entstanden sind und die unverwechselbare Vision des Künstlers widerspiegeln. Ausgestellt werden die ikonischen Bilder im neu eröffneten Haus der Fotografie in Olten, das, genau wie die Ausstellung selbst, nach einer aufwendigen Renovation Premiere feiert.
Mit Serien wie «Twin Peaks» und Kinowerken wie «Blue Velvet» hat David Lynch längst Kultstatus erreicht. Jetzt findet erstmals eine Foto-Ausstellung des amerikanischen Künstlers und Oscarpreisträgers von 2019 ihren Weg in die Schweiz. Im IPFO Haus der Fotografie werden auf drei Etagen insgesamt 120 Werke von David Lynch gezeigt, darunter auch die ikonischen «Snowmen», über die Lynch sagt: «Die Schneemänner wirkten auf mich wie Ausserirdische». Sie spiegeln Lynchs Schaffen auf einzigartige Weise wider.
Für Fotograf und IPFO-Mitgründer Marco Grob gehört der 75-Jährige zu den ganz Grossen der vergangenen Jahrzehnte: «David Lynch versteht es wie selten ein Künstler, aus all seinen Arbeiten einen Lynch zu machen. Was auch immer er berührt, trägt anschliessend seine Handschrift. Es wird lynchesk. Ob Fotografie, Musik, Malerei oder natürlich Film. Von einem kunstvoll gebogenen Draht bis zu Mulholland Drive. Die Ausstellung wird einzigartig und unverwechselbar.»
Kuratiert wird die Ausstellung von Nathalie Herschdorfer, einer Kunsthistorikerin, die sich auf die Geschichte der Fotografie spezialisiert hat. Sie ist Direktorin des Museum of Fine Arts Le Locle, wo sie viele wichtige Fotografie-Ausstellungen organisiert hat. Zudem ist sie Autorin mehrerer Fotografiebücher und international als Kuratorin tätig.

Der weltberühmte Regisseur David Lynch («Eraserhead», «The Elephant Man», «Blue Velvet» oder «Mullholand Drive») gehört zu den grossen Figuren des amerikanischen Kinos und ist bekannt für seine surrealistische Vision. Lynch ist ein produktiver Künstler, aber nur wenige sind sich seines umfangreichen künstlerischen Schaffens bewusst. Bevor er Filmemacher wurde, studierte Lynch Malerei. Heute widmet er sich neben dem Filmemachen vor allem dem Zeichnen, der Druckgrafik, der Bildhauerei, der Musik und der Fotografie. Der US-Amerikaner (geb. 1946, USA) ist ein vielseitiger Künstler, der sich frei von einem Medium zum anderen bewegt.
Zum ersten Mal zeigt eine Ausstellung in der Schweiz die Bandbreite von Lynchs Fotografie. Im Kino und in der Fotografie gelten die gleichen Regeln: die Kunst des Ausschnitts, der Komposition und der Beleuchtung. Der Filmemacher hat vor allem eine Vorliebe für das Fotografieren von zwei Dingen: Fabriken und weibliche Akte. So unterschiedlich diese beiden Sujets auch erscheinen mögen, eine Gemeinsamkeit lässt sich finden: die Beleuchtung, vor allem der Einsatz von Schatten. Die Fotografien, die über zwei Jahrzehnte hinweg entstanden sind, spiegeln die unverwechselbare Vision dieses einflussreichen Künstlers wider. Seine Bilder haben eine magische Qualität, mit einem starken Element des Surrealen. Der Betrachter wird von traumartigen Sequenzen beeindruckt, die die rätselhafte Qualität von Lynchs Filmen heraufbeschwören. Er arbeitet hauptsächlich in Schwarz-Weiss und hat einen fotografischen Stil entwickelt, der sowohl eine dunkle als auch eine zeitlose Atmosphäre offenbart. Ob Akte oder Fabriken, Lynchs Fotografien sind definitiv eindringlich und wirken wie perfekte Gegenstücke zu seinen Filmen. Sein fotografisches Werk ist eine aufschlussreiche Ergänzung zu Lynchs einzigartigem und faszinierendem Oeuvre.

Le maître du surréalisme vient en Suisse. A la Maison de la photographie de l'IPFO, le réalisateur américain et artiste exceptionnel David Lynch présente pour la première fois en Suisse une sélection de ses travaux photographiques. À partir du 26 mars 2021, l'exposition "INFINITE DEEP" présentera l'ensemble des photographies de Lynch, qui ont été prises sur deux décennies et reflètent la vision unique de l'artiste. Les images emblématiques seront exposées dans la toute nouvelle Haus der Fotografie à Olten qui, tout comme l'exposition elle-même, fête sa première après une vaste rénovation.
Avec des séries comme "Twin Peaks" et des œuvres cinématographiques comme "Blue Velvet", David Lynch a depuis longtemps atteint un statut culte. Pour la première fois, une exposition de photographies de l'artiste américain et lauréat de l'Oscar 2019 fait son chemin en Suisse. À la Maison de la photographie de l'IPFO, 120 œuvres de David Lynch seront exposées sur trois étages, dont l'emblématique "Bonhommes de neige", dont Lynch dit : "Les bonhommes de neige m'ont paru être des extraterrestres". Ils reflètent l'œuvre de Lynch d'une manière unique.
Pour le photographe et cofondateur de l'IPFO, Marco Grob, 75 ans, est l'un des grands de ces dernières décennies : "David Lynch comprend comme rarement un autre artiste comment faire un Lynch de toutes ses œuvres. Tout ce qu'il touche porte ensuite sa signature. Il devient lynchien. Que ce soit la photographie, la musique, la peinture ou bien sûr le cinéma. D'un fil plié avec art à Mulholland Drive. L'exposition sera unique et distinctive".
L'exposition est organisée par Nathalie Herschdorfer, historienne de l'art spécialisée dans l'histoire de la photographie. Elle est la directrice du Musée des Beaux-Arts du Locle, où elle a organisé de nombreuses expositions de photographie importantes. Elle est également l'auteur de plusieurs livres de photographie et commissaire d'exposition internationale.

Lynch est un artiste prolifique, mais peu de gens sont au courant de sa vaste production artistique. Avant de devenir cinéaste, Lynch a étudié la peinture. Aujourd'hui, outre la réalisation de films, il consacre la majeure partie de son temps au dessin, à la gravure, à la sculpture, à la musique et à la photographie. L'Américain (né en 1946, USA) est un artiste polyvalent qui passe librement d'un médium à l'autre.
Pour la première fois, une exposition en Suisse montre l'étendue de la photographie de Lynch. Au cinéma et en photographie, les mêmes règles s'appliquent : l'art du recadrage, de la composition et de l'éclairage. Le cinéaste a une préférence pour la photographie de deux choses en particulier : Usines et nus féminins. Aussi différents que ces deux sujets puissent paraître, on peut trouver un point commun : l'éclairage, en particulier l'utilisation des ombres. Les photographies, prises sur deux décennies, reflètent la vision particulière de cet artiste influent. Ses images ont une qualité magique, avec un fort élément de surréalisme. Le spectateur est frappé par des séquences oniriques qui évoquent la qualité énigmatique des films de Lynch. Travaillant principalement en noir et blanc, il a développé un style photographique qui révèle une atmosphère à la fois sombre et intemporelle. Qu'il s'agisse de nus ou d'usines, les photographies de Lynch sont définitivement obsédantes et semblent être de parfaites contreparties à ses films. Son travail photographique est un ajout perspicace à l'œuvre unique et fascinante de Lynch.

Alla Casa della Fotografia dell'IPFO, il regista americano e artista eccezionale David Lynch presenta per la prima volta in Svizzera una selezione delle sue opere fotografiche. Dal 26 marzo 2021, la mostra "INFINITE DEEP" mostrerà l'intera gamma di fotografie di Lynch, che sono state scattate nel corso di due decenni e riflettono la visione inconfondibile dell'artista. Le immagini iconiche saranno esposte nella nuova Haus der Fotografie di Olten, che, proprio come la mostra stessa, sta celebrando la sua prima volta dopo un'ampia ristrutturazione.

La mostra è curata da Nathalie Herschdorfer, una storica dell'arte specializzata in storia della fotografia. È la direttrice del Museo di Belle Arti di Le Locle, dove ha organizzato molte importanti mostre di fotografia. È anche autrice di diversi libri di fotografia e curatrice internazionale.

Oggi, oltre al cinema, dedica la maggior parte del suo tempo al disegno, alla stampa, alla scultura, alla musica e alla fotografia. L'americano (nato nel 1946, USA) è un artista versatile che passa liberamente da un mezzo all'altro.
Per la prima volta, una mostra in Svizzera mostra l'ampiezza della fotografia di Lynch. Nel cinema come nella fotografia, si applicano le stesse regole: l'arte del ritaglio, la composizione e l'illuminazione. Il regista ha una preferenza per fotografare due cose in particolare: Fabbriche e nudi femminili. Per quanto diversi possano sembrare questi due soggetti, si può trovare un punto in comune: l'illuminazione, specialmente l'uso delle ombre. Le fotografie, scattate nel corso di due decenni, riflettono la visione distintiva di questo influente artista. Le sue immagini hanno una qualità magica, con un forte elemento surreale. Lo spettatore è colpito da sequenze oniriche che evocano la qualità enigmatica dei film di Lynch. Lavorando principalmente in bianco e nero, ha sviluppato uno stile fotografico che rivela un'atmosfera oscura e senza tempo. Che si tratti di nudi o di fabbriche, le fotografie di Lynch sono decisamente inquietanti e sembrano una perfetta controparte dei suoi film. Il suo lavoro fotografico è un'aggiunta perspicace all'opera unica e affascinante di Lynch.

The master of the surreal comes to Switzerland. At the IPFO House of Photography, American film director and exceptional artist David Lynch is presenting a selection of his photographic works in Switzerland for the first time. Beginning March 26, 2021, the exhibition "INFINITE DEEP" will showcase the full range of Lynch's photographs, created over two decades and reflecting the artist's unmistakable vision. The iconic images will be exhibited at the newly opened Haus der Fotografie in Olten, which, just like the exhibition itself, is celebrating its premiere after an extensive renovation.

The exhibition is curated by Nathalie Herschdorfer, an art historian who specializes in the history of photography. She is director of the Museum of Fine Arts Le Locle, where she has organized many important photography exhibitions. She is also the author of several photography books and an international curator.

Whether nudes or factories, Lynch's photographs are definitely haunting and seem like perfect counterparts to his films. His photographic work is an insightful addition to Lynch's unique and fascinating oeuvre.
