Die Einzelausstellung Another Love Story von Karla Hiraldo Voleau ist eine Reflexion über das Medium Fotografie und seinen Platz als stummer Zeuge von Liebesbeziehungen in unserer digitalen Gegenwart. Ausgehend von einer erschütternden persönlichen Geschichte präsentiert die Künstlerin eine Reihe von Fotografien und Texten, welche die letzten Monate ihrer Liebesbeziehung zu einem Mann rekonstruieren und ablichten, bevor sie herausfand, dass dieser ein Doppelleben führte. Was tun, wenn man sich in ein <Phantom> verliebt? Und wie gelingt es an die Wahrhaftigkeit von Liebesbeziehungen zu glauben, indem man sich weigert, das Opfer der Geschichte zu sein?
Karla Hiraldo Voleau beschloss, sich die verstörende Erfahrung anzueignen, indem sie verschiedene Momente ihrer Beziehung nachstellte, welche auf die Ästhetik der sozialen Medien rekurrieren. Sie reproduzierte persönliche Fotos, die das Paar in ihrem letzten gemeinsamen Jahr aufgenommen hatte, identisch und inszenierte hunderte von Bildern mit Hilfe eines Schauspielers neu, einem Doppelgänger ihres Lebensgefährten, den sie für das Projekt engagiert hatte. Die so entstandenen Bilder lichten nicht die Wirklichkeit der Beziehung ab, sondern stellen unsere Projektionen und Wünsche in Frage und zeigen, dass das Gefühl der Liebe in Zeiten der Selbstoptimierung und Hyper-Sichtbarkeit letztlich schwer fassbar bleibt – ein Zeitalter, das nach der Soziologin Eva Illouz durch seine « kalten Intimitäten » charakterisiert werden kann. Das Scheitern sozialer Bindungen ist nach Illouz eng mit dem zeitgenössischen Kapitalismus verbunden, der durch Praktiken der Unverbindlichkeit und des sich nicht Einlassens gekennzeichnet ist. Praktiken, welche den schnellen Rückzug aus einem Vorhaben, die Ausrichtung auf Marktwert und den Bruch von Loyalitäten ermöglichen. Das fotografische Werk von Karla Hiraldo Voleau spiegelt somit letztlich auch die Instrumentalisierung der Liebe sowie ihre Oberflächlichkeit im Zeitalter von Internet, sozialen Medien und Neoliberalismus wider, wobei die Künstlerin die problematischen Mechanismen offenlegt und gleichzeitig unterwandert.
Karla Hiraldo Voleau, geboren 1992, ist eine französisch-dominikanische Künstlerin, die in Lausanne und Paris lebt und arbeitet. Sie machte 2018 ihren Master in Fotografie an der ECAL und veröffentlichte 2019 ihr Fotobuch «Hola Mi Amol ». Ihre Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen Ausstellungen in ganz Europa gezeigt, darunter ihre letzte Einzelausstellung im Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris (2022), Art Basel (2022) und Foam Amsterdam (2020).

L’exposition solo Another Love Story propose une réflexion sur le medium de la photographie et sa place comme témoin silencieux de nos relations amoureuses dans notre présence digitale. Basée sur une expérience personnelle destructrice, l’exposition présente une série de photographies et de textes reconstituant les derniers mois de la relation amoureuse de l’artiste avec un homme qui menait une double vie. Que faire lorsque l’on tombe amoureuse d’un <fantôme>? Et comment réussir à croire à la véracité des relations amoureuses en refusant d’être la victime de l’histoire ? Karla Hiraldo Voleau a décidé de se réapproprier cette expérience perturbante en rejouant différents moments de cette relation en employant une esthétique des médias sociaux. L’artiste a reproduit fidèlement ses photographies de couple réalisées durant des années de relation. Avec l’aide d’un acteur, un sosie de son ex qu’elle a engagé pour le projet, elle a reconstitué des centaines d’images. Ces dernières, loin de restituer la véracité d’une relation, questionnent plutôt nos projections et désirs afin de relever que le sentiment amoureux reste encore insaisissable à une époque d’auto-optimisation et d’hyper-visibilité – une époque qui, selon la sociologue Eva Illouz, peut être caractérisée par ses « intimités froides ». Selon Illouz, l’échec des liens sociaux est étroitement lié au capitalisme contemporain, qui se caractérise par des pratiques d’absence d’engagement et de refus de s’engager. Des pratiques qui permettent le retrait rapide d’un projet, l’alignement sur la valeur marchande et la rupture des loyautés. L’œuvre photographique de Karla Hiraldo Voleau reflète donc en fin de compte l’instrumentalisation de l’amour ainsi que sa superficialité à l’ère d’Internet, des médias sociaux et du néolibéralisme, dont l’artiste dévoile les mécanismes problématiques tout en les subvertissant.
Karla Hiraldo Voleau est une artiste franco-dominicaine née en 1992 qui vit et travaille entre Lausanne et Paris. Après avoir obtenu un Bachelor en design aux Écoles de Condé à Paris puis un Master en photographie à l’ECAL en 2018, elle a publié un ouvrage de photos « Hola Mi Amol » en 2019. Son travail a été présenté dans de nombreuses expositions en Europe, notamment à la Maison européenne de la photographie à Paris (2022), à Art Basel (2022) et au Foam Amsterdam (2020)

La mostra personale Another Love Story di Karla Hiraldo Voleau è una riflessione sul mezzo fotografico e sul suo ruolo di testimone silenzioso delle relazioni amorose nel nostro presente digitale. Basandosi su una straziante storia personale, l'artista presenta una serie di fotografie e testi che ricostruiscono e ritraggono gli ultimi mesi della sua storia d'amore con un uomo prima di scoprire che conduceva una doppia vita. Cosa fare quando ci si innamora di un <fantasma>? E come riuscire a credere nella veridicità delle relazioni d'amore rifiutando di essere vittima della storia?
Karla Hiraldo Voleau ha deciso di appropriarsi di questa esperienza inquietante ricreando diversi momenti della loro relazione che si rifanno all'estetica dei social media. Ha riprodotto in modo identico le foto personali scattate dalla coppia durante il loro ultimo anno insieme e ha rimesso in scena centinaia di immagini con l'aiuto di un attore, sosia del suo compagno, che aveva ingaggiato per il progetto. Le immagini che ne sono scaturite non catturano la realtà della relazione, ma mettono in discussione le nostre proiezioni e i nostri desideri e dimostrano che il sentimento dell'amore rimane in definitiva inafferrabile in un'epoca di auto-ottimizzazione e iper-visibilità - un'epoca che, secondo la sociologa Eva Illouz, può essere caratterizzata da una "fredda intimità". Secondo la Illouz, il fallimento dei legami sociali è strettamente legato al capitalismo contemporaneo, caratterizzato da pratiche di non impegno e non coinvolgimento. Pratiche che permettono di ritirarsi rapidamente da un'impresa, di concentrarsi sul valore di mercato e di rompere la fedeltà. Il lavoro fotografico di Karla Hiraldo Voleau riflette quindi, in ultima analisi, la strumentalizzazione dell'amore e la sua superficialità nell'era di Internet, dei social media e del neoliberismo, di cui l'artista espone e contemporaneamente sovverte i meccanismi problematici.
Karla Hiraldo Voleau, nata nel 1992, è un'artista franco-dominicana che vive e lavora a Losanna e Parigi. Ha conseguito un Master in Fotografia presso l'ECAL nel 2018 e ha pubblicato il libro fotografico "Hola Mi Amol" nel 2019. Karla Hiraldo Voleau’s solo exhibition Another Love Story proposes a reflection on the photographic medium and its place as a silent witness of our love relationships in the digital present. Based on a devastating personal story, the artist developed a series of photographs and texts that reconstruct and replicate the last months of her relationship with a man before she found out he was leading a double-life. What to do when you fall in love with a ‘ghost’? And how to reclaim meaningful intimate relationships and love by refusing to be the victime of the story? Karla Hiraldo Voleau decided to re-appropriate this troubling experience by replaying different moments of their relationship, referring to Social Media aesthetics. She identically reproduced personal photographs the couple had taken in the past year they were together and restaged hundreds of images with the help of an actor, a doppelganger of her companion that she hired for the project. The resulting images fail to capture the truth of a relationship, questioning instead our projections and desires and reveal that the feeling of love remains ultimately elusive in times of self-optimization and hyper-visibility. Another Love Story explores the state of love and intimate social relations today in the age of the Internet and social media – an age characterised by what sociologist Eva Illouz has called “cold intimacies”. The unmaking of social bonds, Illouz argues, is connected to contemporary capitalism which is characterized by practices of non-commitment and non-choice, practices that enable the quick withdrawal from a transaction and the quick realignment of prices and the breaking of loyalties. Karla Hiraldo Voleau’s photographic work mirrors the instrumentalisation of love and its superficialisation in the age of the digital, exposing and simultaneously undermining their enthralling mechanisms.
