Sebastião Salgado ist ein bekannter zeitgenössischer Fotograf, der es wie kaum ein anderer versteht, das Endliche bildnerisch zu dokumentieren. Der gebürtige Brasilianer widmet seine erfolgreiche Ausstellung «Amazônia», die weltweit bereits über eine Million Personen besuchten, dem grössten Regenwald der Welt und seiner indigenen Bevölkerung. Seine Aufnahmen entführen die Betrachterinnen und Betrachter mitten in eine prachtvolle Vegetation. Sie vermitteln die Majestät der weiten Ebenen und der mächtigen Gebirgszüge der Amazonas-Region. Sie lassen das Rauschen des Regens, der Wasserfälle und Flüsse erahnen und dokumentieren das Leben und den Überlebenskampf von Mensch und Tier. Vom 31. Mai bis 24. September 2023 gastiert die Ausstellung «Amazônia» unter dem Patronat der Zurich Insurance Group in der MAAG Halle in Zürich.
Kreiert und kuratiert von Lélia Wanick Salgado, zeigt «Amazônia» mehr als 200 Aufnahmen von Sebastião Salgado. Der brasilianische Fotograf nimmt sein Publikum auf eine fantastische Reise durch den Amazonas-Regenwald mit. Er rückt die Fragilität des Ökosystems der «Selva» ins Licht und weist mit prägnanter Bildsprache auf die Dringlichkeit von deren Schutz hin.
Salgado hält die Sanftheit der Landschaft ebenso fest wie die Urkräfte der Elemente, die das Leben im Regenwald prägen. Er dokumentiert das Leben der Ureinwohnerinnen und Ureinwohner des Amazonas und erzählt neben vielem anderem, wie der einst vom Aussterben bedrohte 450-köpfige Stamm der Awá-Guajá die Kontrolle über sein Land und seine Kultur zurückgewonnen hat.
Ein eigens für die Ausstellung komponierter Audiotrack des französischen Musikers Jean-Michel Jarre begleitet die Besucherinnen und Besucher auf ihrem Gang durch «Amazônia». Jarres Musik ist von den urtümlichen Geräuschen des Waldes inspiriert, vom Rascheln im Gehölz, vom Schreien, Schnattern und Fiepen der Tiere, vom Gesang der Vögel oder vom Rauschen des von den Bergen herabstürzenden Wassers.
Zurich Insurance Group AG (Zurich) ist der globale Hauptpartner der Ausstellungstournee. «Amazônia» hat bereits in Rom, London, São Paulo, Manchester, Avignon und Rio de Janeiro haltgemacht und knapp eine Million Personen begeistert. Im Rahmen seines 150-Jahr-Jubiläums hat der Versicherer nun dafür gesorgt, dass die spektakuläre Fotoausstellung 2023 auch nach Zürich kommt.
Das Sponsoring von «Amazônia» ist ein Element eines umfassenderen Projekts der Zurich, welches das Bewusstsein einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit für die Notwendigkeit konkreter Umweltmassnahmen wecken und schärfen soll. Es ergänzt die schon länger bestehende Zusammenarbeit des Versicherungskonzerns mit dem Instituto Terra, der gemeinnützigen Organisation von Lélia und Sebastião Salgado.
Das gemeinsame Zurich-Forest-Projekt unterstützt die gezielte und nachhaltige Wiederherstellung des atlantischen Regenwaldes in Brasilien. Unfruchtbares Ackerland soll wieder zu Wald werden und der ursprünglichen Flora und Fauna Lebensraum bieten. Im Rahmen des auf acht Jahre ausgelegten Projekts sollen insgesamt eine Million sorgfältig ausgewählte einheimische Setzlinge gepflanzt werden.

Du 31 mai au 24 septembre 2023, l'exposition "Amazônia" se tiendra dans la halle MAAG à Zurich sous le patronage du Zurich Insurance Group.
Créée et organisée par Lélia Wanick Salgado, "Amazônia" présente plus de 200 photos de Sebastião Salgado. Le photographe brésilien emmène son public dans un voyage fantastique à travers la forêt amazonienne. Il met en lumière la fragilité de l'écosystème de la "selva" et attire l'attention sur l'urgence de sa protection grâce à un langage visuel incisif.
Salgado retient la douceur du paysage tout comme les forces primaires des éléments qui caractérisent la vie dans la forêt tropicale. Il documente la vie des autochtones d'Amazonie et raconte, entre autres, comment la tribu des Awá-Guajá, qui comptait 450 membres et était autrefois menacée d'extinction, a repris le contrôle de ses terres et de sa culture.
Une bande-son du musicien français Jean-Michel Jarre, spécialement composée pour l'exposition, accompagne les visiteurs dans leur promenade à travers "Amazônia". La musique de Jarre s'inspire des bruits primitifs de la forêt, du bruissement dans les bois, des cris, des jacassements et des pépiements des animaux, du chant des oiseaux ou du bruit de l'eau qui tombe des montagnes.

"Amazônia" s'est déjà arrêtée à Rome, Londres, São Paulo, Manchester, Avignon et Rio de Janeiro et a enthousiasmé près d'un million de personnes. Dans le cadre de son 150e anniversaire, l'assureur a fait en sorte que la spectaculaire exposition de photos se rende également à Zurich en 2023.

Le projet commun Zurich-Forest soutient la restauration ciblée et durable de la forêt tropicale atlantique au Brésil. Sebastião Salgado is a well-known contemporary photographer who knows how to capture the finite nature of our planet as few others can. The Brazilian-born photojournalist has dedicated his successful exhibition, ‘Amazônia,’ to the largest rainforest in the world and its indigenous inhabitants. To date, his exhibition has already had more than one million visitors worldwide. His photographs transport viewers into the heart of a lush and ecologically diverse realm, conveying the majesty of vast plains and imposing mountains of the Amazon region. The exhibition also captures sounds of great diversity, including rainstorms, waterfalls and flowing rivers. And it documents lives of indigenous people whose existence is perilously dependent on a fragile ecosystem. From May 31 to September 24, 2023, the ‘Amazônia’ exhibition will make a guest appearance at MAAG Halle in Zurich under the patronage of Zurich Insurance Group. As testimony to its popularity, the acclaimed exhibition has already welcomed almost one million visitors in the five cities where it has appeared.
Curated and designed by Lélia Wanick Salgado, ‘Amazônia’ features more than 200 photographs by Sebastião Salgado. The Brazilian photographer takes his audience on a fantastic journey through the Amazon rainforest. His works shine a light on the ecosystem of the endangered region, underscoring the urgent need to protect this precious treasure trove of biodiversity.
Salgado captures the gentle landscapes and elemental forces that shape life in the rainforest, while documenting the lives of the indigenous people, including the 450-strong Awá Guajá tribe. Once threatened with extinction, the tribe has managed to regain control of their land and culture.
An audio track that was composed especially for the exhibition by French musician Jean-Michel Jarre accompanies visitors on their journey through the Amazônia. Jarre’s music is inspired by the forest, providing a primal soundtrack capturing rustling trees, the calls of wild animals, birdsong and rushing waterfalls.
Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich) is the main global partner of the exhibition tour, which has already been presented in Paris, Rome, London, São Paulo, Manchester, Avignon and Rio de Janeiro and has counted almost one million visitors. As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, the insurer has now ensured that the spectacular photo exhibition will also come to Zurich in 2023.
The ‘Amazônia’ sponsorship is just one aspect of Zurich’s efforts to raise awareness about the need to protect the planet. It complements the insurer’s long-term collaboration with Instituto Terra, the non-profit organization founded by Lélia and Sebastião Salgado.
The joint Zurich Forest project supports targeted and sustainable restoration of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, where barren farmland is being transformed to provide a habitat for diverse, native flora and fauna. As part of the eight-year project, a total of one million carefully selected native seedlings are also being planted.
