Die Performance- und Medienkünstlerin VALIE EXPORT ist Pionierin: Mit feministischer Agenda hat EXPORT früh die Rolle der Frau und Künstlerin untersucht und aufgezeigt, wie sich patriarchale Strukturen dem weiblichen Körper auf schmerzhafte Weise einschreiben. Der Körper ist in EXPORTs bahnbrechendem Werk untrennbar mit seiner Darstellung in visuellen Medien verknüpft. EXPORTs kritische wie tiefgreifende Analyse technischer Abbildungsprozesse legt offen, wie Massenmedien geschlechtsspezifische Identitätsbilder erst konstruieren und festschreiben.
Die Ausstellung spannt den Bogen von EXPORTs bahnbrechenden frühen feministischen Aktionen, wie dem TAPP und TASTKINO (1968) über ihre provokanten Performances (ASEMIE, 1973) und vielschichtigen Installationen I (beat (it)) (1980) bis hin zu der über mehrere Jahre konsequent verfolgten Werkgruppe der Körperkonfigurationen (1972-82). Ein Schwerpunkt der Ausstellung liegt auf der Relevanz der Fotografie für das Schaffen der Künstlerin. Ob zu dokumentarischen Zwecken, als Experiment oder als eigenständiges Werk spielt die Fotografie eine zentrale Rolle für EXPORTs feministische und gesellschaftspolitische Fragestellungen. An der Schnittstelle zu Film, Video- und Body-Art erlaubt sie neue Einblicke in das Werk der Künstlerin. Das Verhältnis von Subjekt und Raum, Performance und Bild, Körper und Blick sowie Weiblichkeit und Repräsentation ist hierfür bezeichnend.
L'artiste de la performance et des médias VALIE EXPORT est une pionnière : avec un agenda féministe, EXPORT a exploré très tôt le rôle de la femme et de l'artiste et a montré comment les structures patriarcales s'inscrivent douloureusement dans le corps féminin. Dans l'œuvre révolutionnaire d'EXPORT, le corps est indissociable de sa représentation dans les médias visuels. L'analyse critique et approfondie d'EXPORT sur les processus de représentation technique révèle comment les médias de masse construisent et fixent les images d'identité spécifiques au sexe.
L'exposition s'étend des premières actions féministes révolutionnaires d'EXPORT, comme le TAPP et le TASTKINO (1968), à ses performances provocantes (ASEMIE, 1973) et ses installations complexes I (beat (it)) (1980), jusqu'au groupe d'œuvres des configurations corporelles (1972-82), suivies de manière conséquente sur plusieurs années. L'exposition met l'accent sur la pertinence de la photographie dans le travail de l'artiste. Que ce soit à des fins documentaires, expérimentales ou en tant qu'œuvre à part entière, la photographie joue un rôle central dans les questionnements féministes et sociopolitiques d'EXPORT. À la croisée du film, de la vidéo et du body art, elle permet de jeter un regard nouveau sur l'œuvre de l'artiste. La relation entre le sujet et l'espace, la performance et le visuel, le corps et le regard ainsi que la féminité et la représentation en sont des exemples significatifs.
La performance e media artist VALIE EXPORT è una pioniera: con un'agenda femminista, EXPORT è stata una precoce esploratrice del ruolo delle donne e degli artisti, rivelando come le strutture patriarcali si inscrivano dolorosamente nel corpo femminile. Nel lavoro innovativo di EXPORT, il corpo è inestricabilmente legato alla sua rappresentazione nei media visivi. L'analisi critica e profonda dei processi tecnici di rappresentazione di EXPORT rivela come i mass media costruiscano e codifichino immagini di identità di genere.
La mostra ripercorre le prime azioni femministe innovative di EXPORT, come TAPP e TASTKINO (1968), passando per le sue performance provocatorie (ASEMIE, 1973) e le installazioni multistrato I (beat (it)) (1980), fino al gruppo di opere Body Configurations (1972-82), che sono state portate avanti con costanza per diversi anni. Uno dei punti focali della mostra è l'importanza della fotografia nel lavoro dell'artista. Che sia a scopo documentario, come esperimento o come opera indipendente, la fotografia svolge un ruolo centrale nelle questioni femministe e socio-politiche di EXPORT. All'interfaccia con il cinema, il video e la body art, essa permette di dare un'occhiata al lavoro dell'artista. Il rapporto tra soggetto e spazio, performance e immagine, corpo e sguardo, femminilità e rappresentazione ne è la caratteristica.
Performance and media artist VALIE EXPORT is a pioneer: with a feminist agenda, EXPORT was an early explorer of the role of women and artists, revealing how patriarchal structures painfully inscribe themselves on the female body. In EXPORT's groundbreaking work, the body is inextricably linked to its representation in visual media. EXPORT's critical as well as profound analysis of technical processes of representation reveals how mass media first construct and codify gendered images of identity.
The exhibition spans EXPORT's groundbreaking early feminist actions, such as the TAPP and TASTKINO (1968), through her provocative performances (ASEMIE, 1973) and multi-layered installations I (beat (it)) (1980), to the body configurations group of works (1972-82), consistently pursued over several years. One focus of the exhibition is on the relevance of photography to the artist's oeuvre. Whether for documentary purposes, as an experiment, or as an independent work, photography plays a central role in EXPORT's feminist and sociopolitical issues. At the interface with film, video and body art, it allows new insights into the artist's work. The relationship between subject and space, performance and image, body and gaze, and femininity and representation is characteristic of this.
