Tyler Mitchell (*1995, USA) wird von paradiesischen Träumen vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte inspiriert. Seit seinem Aufstieg in der Modewelt hat Mitchell eine visuelle Erzählung von Schönheit, Stil, Utopie und Landschaft geschaffen, die die Visionen vom Leben Schwarzer Menschen erweitern. Die Ausstellung präsentiert neue Perspektiven auf seine beständigen Themen der Selbstbestimmung und der außergewöhnlichen Aura des Alltäglichen und zeigt, wie Porträts in der Vergangenheit verwurzelt sein können und gleichzeitig eine imaginäre Zukunft hervorbringen. Mitchells facettenreiches Werk reicht von seiner farbintensiven Fotografie in Kuba und seinen in den USA, Europa und Westafrika entstandenen Porträts bis hin zu seinen Videoinstallationen, Skulpturen und neuesten Spiegel- und Stoffdrucken. Es zeigt die bedeutende Rolle der Fotografie bei der Gestaltung einer visuellen Welt, in der Zuflucht und Harmonie im Mittelpunkt stehen. C/O Berlin präsentiert die erste Einzelausstellung von Tyler Mitchell in Deutschland.

Tyler Mitchell (*1995, États-Unis) s'inspire de rêves paradisiaques sur fond d'histoire. Depuis son ascension dans le monde de la mode, Mitchell a créé un récit visuel de beauté, de style, d'utopie et de paysage qui élargit les visions de la vie des personnes noires. L'exposition présente de nouvelles perspectives sur ses thèmes constants de l'autodétermination et de l'aura extraordinaire du quotidien, et montre comment les portraits peuvent être enracinés dans le passé tout en produisant un futur imaginaire. L'œuvre aux multiples facettes de Mitchell s'étend de sa photographie aux couleurs intenses à Cuba et de ses portraits réalisés aux États-Unis, en Europe et en Afrique de l'Ouest à ses installations vidéo, ses sculptures et ses dernières impressions sur miroir et tissu. Il montre le rôle important de la photographie dans la création d'un monde visuel où le refuge et l'harmonie sont au cœur des préoccupations. C/O Berlin présente la première exposition individuelle de Tyler Mitchell en Allemagne.

Fin dalla sua ascesa nel mondo della moda, Mitchell ha creato una narrazione visiva di bellezza, stile, utopia e paesaggio che amplia le visioni della vita nera. La mostra presenta nuove prospettive sui suoi temi duraturi dell'autodeterminazione e della straordinaria aura del quotidiano, dimostrando come la ritrattistica possa essere radicata nel passato e al contempo creare un futuro immaginario. Il lavoro poliedrico di Mitchell spazia dalla fotografia dai colori intensi a Cuba e dai ritratti realizzati negli Stati Uniti, in Europa e in Africa occidentale alle installazioni video, alle sculture e alle recenti stampe su specchio e tessuto. C/O Berlin presenta la prima mostra personale di Tyler Mitchell in Germania.

Tyler Mitchell (b. 1995, USA) is driven by dreams of paradise against the backdrop of history. Since his rise to prominence in the world of fashion, Mitchell has propelled a visual narrative of beauty, style, utopia, and the landscape that expands visions of Black life. C/O Berlin presents Mitchell’s first solo exhibition in Germany, offering new perspectives on his long-standing themes of self-determination and the extraordinary radiance of the everyday. It shows how portraiture can be rooted in the past while evoking imagined futures. Mitchell’s dynamic range of work, from his color-drenched photography in Cuba and his portraits made in the United States, Europe, and West Africa, to his video installations, sculptures, and his latest prints on mirrors and fabric, traces photography’s vital role in shaping a visual realm in which refuge and repose are central.
