Für das Projekt hat die in Wien und Paris lebende Fotografin Jugendliche an der Schwelle zum Erwachsensein porträtiert – eine abenteuerliche Phase des Übergangs, in der man beginnt, sein Leben selbst in die Hand zu nehmen, in der vieles zum ersten Mal passiert und in der man sich vom Elternhaus emanzipiert, gleichzeitig aber noch mittendrin steckt.
Entstanden sind die Porträts zwischen 2019 und 2021. Ihre zwischen 13 und 19 Jahre alten Modelle hat Breit auf der Straße angesprochen, über Bekannte kennengelernt und auf Social Media Kanälen gefunden und sie eine Zeit lang begleitet.
Mit den analog, oft mit hartem Blitz und immer aus kurzer Distanz aufgenommenen Bildern schafft die Fotografin eine fast intime Nähe zu den Teens. Schauplatz sind die Zimmer der Jugendlichen, die Rückzugsort und gleichzeitig Visitenkarte ihrer individuellen Interessen sind und in denen sich mitunter noch die letzten Relikte der Kindheit und die Insignien der neuen Persönlichkeit gegenüberstehen.
Mit den eindrücklichen Porträts von Individuen, mit jeweils eigenen Charakteren, Identitäten und Lebensentwürfen liefert Breit gleichzeitig ein Porträt einer Generation, die sich in den vergangenen Jahren verstärkt als politischer Akteur Gehör verschafft hat, ein Weiter so nicht mehr akzeptieren will und mit den Älteren – sei es auf dem Feld der Klima- oder der Identitätspolitik – einen Konflikt über die Zukunft austrägt.
Pour ce projet, la photographe, qui vit à Vienne et à Paris, a fait le portrait d'adolescents au seuil de l'âge adulte - une phase de transition aventureuse où l'on commence à prendre sa vie en main, où beaucoup de choses se passent pour la première fois et où l'on s'émancipe du foyer parental tout en étant encore en plein dedans.
Les portraits ont été réalisés entre 2019 et 2021. Breit a abordé ses modèles âgés de 13 à 19 ans dans la rue, les a rencontrés par l'intermédiaire de connaissances et les a trouvés sur les canaux de médias sociaux et les a accompagnés pendant un certain temps.
Avec ses visuels pris en analogique, souvent avec un flash dur et toujours à courte distance, la photographe crée une proximité presque intime avec les adolescents. Le décor est la chambre des jeunes, à la fois lieu de retraite et carte de visite de leurs intérêts individuels, où s'opposent parfois encore les derniers vestiges de l'enfance et les insignes de leur nouvelle personnalité.
Avec ces portraits impressionnants d'individus ayant chacun leur caractère, leur identité et leur projet de vie, Breit livre en même temps le portrait d'une génération qui, ces dernières années, s'est fait entendre de plus en plus en tant qu'acteur politique, qui ne veut plus accepter le statu quo et qui est en conflit avec ses aînés sur l'avenir, que ce soit sur le terrain de la politique climatique ou identitaire.
Per il progetto, il fotografo, che vive a Vienna e a Parigi, ha ritratto giovani alle soglie dell'età adulta - un'avventurosa fase di transizione in cui si inizia a prendere in mano la propria vita, in cui molte cose accadono per la prima volta e in cui ci si emancipa dalla casa dei genitori, ma allo stesso tempo si rimane ancora bloccati nel mezzo.
I ritratti sono stati realizzati tra il 2019 e il 2021. Breit ha avvicinato i suoi modelli, di età compresa tra i 13 e i 19 anni, per strada, li ha incontrati tramite conoscenti e li ha trovati sui canali dei social media e li ha accompagnati per un po'.
Con le immagini analogiche, spesso scattate con un flash rigido e sempre a breve distanza, il fotografo crea una vicinanza quasi intima con gli adolescenti. L'ambientazione è quella delle stanze degli adolescenti, che sono un luogo di ritiro e allo stesso tempo un biglietto da visita per i loro interessi individuali, e dove a volte le ultime reliquie dell'infanzia e le insegne della nuova personalità sono ancora giustapposte.
Con gli impressionanti ritratti di individui, ognuno con il proprio carattere, la propria identità e i propri progetti di vita, Breit offre contemporaneamente il ritratto di una generazione che negli ultimi anni si è fatta sentire sempre più come attore politico, non è più disposta ad accettare un "business as usual" ed è impegnata in un conflitto con i suoi anziani sul futuro - sia nel campo del clima che in quello delle politiche identitarie.
For the project, the photographer, who lives in Vienna and Paris, portrayed young people on the threshold of adulthood - an adventurous phase of transition in which one begins to take one's life into one's own hands, in which many things happen for the first time and in which one emancipates oneself from the parental home, but at the same time is still stuck in the middle.
The portraits were created between 2019 and 2021. Breit approached her models, who are between 13 and 19 years old, on the street, met them through acquaintances and found them on social media channels and accompanied them for a while.
With the analogue pictures, often taken with a hard flash and always from a short distance, the photographer creates an almost intimate closeness to the teens. The setting is the teenagers' rooms, which are a place of retreat and at the same time a calling card for their individual interests, and where sometimes the last relics of childhood and the insignia of the new personality are still juxtaposed.
With the impressive portraits of individuals, each with their own characters, identities and life plans, Breit simultaneously delivers a portrait of a generation that in recent years has increasingly made itself heard as a political actor, is no longer willing to accept a "business as usual" and is engaged in a conflict with its elders about the future - whether in the field of climate or identity politics.
