Es ist die Begegnung zwischen dem Architekten Mario Botta, dem Maler und Bildhauer Enzo Cucchi, Protagonist der Transavantgarde, einer der interessantesten Epochen der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts, und dem Tessiner Regisseur Villi Hermann, der seine Filme und Dokumentarfilme (St. Gotthard, Matlosa, Innocence, Bankomatt, Gotthard Schuh, eine sinnliche Vision der Welt, usw.) an den wichtigsten internationalen Festivals vorgestellt hat. Villi Hermann hat dem Bau der Kirche auf dem Monte Tamaro einen Dokumentarfilm gewidmet.
Im Auftrag von Egidio Cattaneo baute Mario Botta auf dem Monte Tamaro die Kirche Santa Maria degli Angeli, die 1996 geweiht wurde. Seitdem ist sie ein internationales Ziel für Architektur und Kunst. Der Unternehmer Egidio Cattaneo erinnert sich gerne an den Anruf an einem Samstagmorgen: "Architekt, da Sie in Mogno Schwierigkeiten haben, kommen Sie zu uns auf den Monte Tamaro und bauen Sie Ihre Kirche". Gesagt, getan, aber in der Zwischenzeit haben sich die Schwierigkeiten aufgelöst und auch Mogno hat seine Kirche bekommen, ein herausragendes Beispiel zeitgenössischer religiöser Architektur.
Die Ausstellung in der Stiftung Epper vereint Werke der drei Protagonisten. Eine Reihe von Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografien, die der Regisseur während der Dreharbeiten zum Film aufgenommen hat, eine sorgfältige Auswahl von Skizzen und Zeichnungen, die Mario Botta im Laufe der Arbeiten angefertigt hat, und eine Reihe von Werken von Enzo Cucchi, die der Stiftung Epper in Ascona vom MASI, dem Kunstmuseum der italienischen Schweiz, geliehen wurden.
Der Dokumentarfilm von Villi Hermann wurde soeben restauriert und wird in seiner neuen Form am 7. August 2023 am Filmfestival Locarno in der Sektion "Histoire(s) du cinéma" zu sehen sein. Die Ausstellung, die erste zu diesem Thema, bietet somit die Gelegenheit, den Film mit dem Titel "TAMARO. Steine und Engel. Mario Botta Enzo Cucchi" mit Dokumenten und Werken zu kontextualisieren, die noch nie öffentlich ausgestellt wurden und sich alle auf die Baujahre 1992-95 beziehen.
Die aus Porphyr errichtete Kirche von Mario Botta steht am Rande eines Hanges, von dem aus sich ein außergewöhnliches Panorama bietet. Die künstlerische Intervention von Enzo Cucchi nimmt die beiden Haupträume ein: die Decke des Ganges, die durch eine lange gemalte Zypresse gekennzeichnet ist, und das Herz der Kirche, die Apsis. Auf einem intensiven Blau schlägt er das Thema der Hände in der Geste des Offertoriums vor, das in die marianische Ikonographie der 22 Tafeln über den Fenstern integriert ist, deren Symbolik von Pater Giovanni Pozzi angeregt wurde, der auch in der Ausstellung in der Stiftung Epper mit Papieren und Dokumenten über seine Rolle als Exeget der marianischen Dimension der Tamaro-Kirche, die von der Bibliothek Salita dei Frati in Lugano zur Verfügung gestellt wurden, gut vertreten war.
Zu diesem Anlass wurde ein Katalog mit zahlreichen Bildern von der Entstehung des Films und dem Bau der Tamaro-Kirche erstellt, bei dem die Protagonisten, der Architekt Mario Botta, der Künstler Enzo Cucchi, der Unternehmer Egidio Cattaneo und Pater Giovanni Pozzi anwesend waren. Ergänzt wird sie durch Zeitzeugenberichte von Botta und Cucchi selbst, Villi Hermann und einen Artikel von Dalmazio Ambrosioni, der im Juni 1996 im Giornale del Popolo veröffentlicht wurde.
Il s'agit de la rencontre entre Mario Botta, architecte, le peintre et sculpteur Enzo Cucchi, protagoniste de la Transavantgarde, l'une des saisons les plus intéressantes de l'art du XXe siècle, et le réalisateur tessinois Villi Hermann, qui a présenté ses films et documentaires (St Gotthard, Matlosa, Innocence, Bankomatt, Gotthard Schuh, une vision sensuelle du monde, etc.) dans les plus grands festivals internationaux. Villi Hermann consacre un film documentaire à la construction de l'église du Monte Tamaro.
À la demande d'Egidio Cattaneo, Mario Botta a construit sur le Monte Tamaro l'église dédiée à Santa Maria degli Angeli, consacrée en 1996. Depuis, elle est devenue une destination internationale pour l'architecture et l'art. L'entrepreneur Egidio Cattaneo se souvient avec émotion de ce coup de téléphone, un samedi matin : "Architecte, puisque tu as des difficultés à Mogno, viens chez nous, sur le mont Tamaro, et construis ton église". Aussitôt dit, aussitôt fait, mais entre-temps les difficultés se sont dénouées et Mogno aussi a eu son église, un grand exemple d'architecture religieuse contemporaine.
L'exposition de la Fondation Epper réunit des œuvres des trois protagonistes. Une série de photographies en noir et blanc prises par le réalisateur pendant la réalisation du film, une sélection minutieuse d'esquisses et de dessins réalisés par Mario Botta au cours du travail et une série d'œuvres d'Enzo Cucchi prêtées à la Fondation Epper d'Ascona par le MASI, le Musée d'art de la Suisse italienne.
Le documentaire de Villi Hermann vient d'être restauré et sera projeté dans sa nouvelle version au Festival du film de Locarno le 7 août 2023 dans la section "Histoire(s) du cinéma". L'exposition, la première sur le sujet, est donc née de l'opportunité de contextualiser le film qui s'intitule "TAMARO. Pierres et anges. Mario Botta Enzo Cucchi", avec des documents et des œuvres qui n'ont jamais été exposés au public et qui se rapportent tous aux années de construction, 1992-95.
Réalisée en porphyre, l'église de Mario Botta se dresse au bord de la pente au-delà de laquelle s'ouvre un panorama extraordinaire. L'intervention artistique d'Enzo Cucchi occupe les deux espaces principaux : le plafond de l'allée, marqué par un long cyprès peint, et le cœur de l'église, l'abside. Sur un bleu intense, il propose le thème des mains dans le geste de l'offertoire, intégré dans l'iconographie mariale des 22 panneaux placés au-dessus des fenêtres, dont la symbolique a été suggérée par le Père Giovanni Pozzi, qui était également bien représenté dans l'exposition de la Fondation Epper avec des papiers et des documents relatifs à son rôle d'exégète de la dimension mariale de l'église Tamaro, mis à disposition par la bibliothèque Salita dei Frati de Lugano.
Pour l'occasion, un catalogue a été réalisé avec de nombreuses photos du tournage du film et de la construction de l'église de Tamaro, en présence des protagonistes, l'architecte Mario Botta, l'artiste Enzo Cucchi, l'entrepreneur Egidio Cattaneo et le père Giovanni Pozzi. Il est complété par des témoignages d'époque de Botta et Cucchi eux-mêmes, de Villi Hermann et d'un article de Dalmazio Ambrosioni publié dans le Giornale del Popolo en juin 1996.
È l’incontro tra Mario Botta, architetto, il pittore e scultore Enzo Cucchi, protagonista della Transavanguardia, una delle stagioni più interessanti dell’arte del Novecento, ed il regista ticinese Villi Hermann, che ha presentato i suoi film e documentari (San Gottardo, Matlosa, Innocenza, Bankomatt, Gotthard Schuh, una visione sensuale del mondo ecc.) nei grandi Festival internazionali. Alla costruzione della chiesa sul Monte Tamaro Villi Hermann ha dedicato un documentario che ne suggella la memoria..
Su commissione di Egidio Cattaneo, sul Monte Tamaro Mario Botta ha costruito la chiesa dedicata a Santa Maria degli Angeli, consacrata nel 1996. Da allora figura tra le mete internazionali di architettura e d’arte. L’imprenditore Egidio Cattaneo ricordava volentieri quella telefonata d’un sabato mattina: “Architetto, siccome a Mogno le fanno difficoltà, venga da noi sul Tamaro a costruire la sua chiesa”. Detto fatto, ma nel frattempo le difficoltà si dipanarono ed anche Mogno ha avuto la sua chiesa, alto esempio di architettura religiosa contemporanea.
L’esposizione alla Fondazione Epper riunisce opere dei tre protagonisti. Una serie di fotografie in bianco/nero scattate dal regista durante la lavorazione del film, un’accurata scelta di schizzi e disegni realizzati da Mario Botta in corso d’opera, una serie di opere di Enzo Cucchi prestate alla Fondazione Epper di Ascona dal MASI, Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana.
Il documentario di Villi Hermann è stato appena restaurato e nella nuova veste viene proietatto ad il 7 agosto 2023 al Festival del film di Locarno nella sezione “Histoire(s) du cinéma”. La mostra, la prima sull’argomento, nasce quindi dall’opportunità di contestualizzare il film, che s’intitola “TAMARO. Pietre e angeli. Mario Botta Enzo Cucchi”, con documenti ed opere mai esposte al pubblico e tutte relative agli anni di costruzione, 1992-95.
Realizzata in porfido, la chiesa di Mario Botta sorge al limitare del pendio oltre il quale si apre una straordinaria veduta panoramica. L’intervento artistico di Enzo Cucchi occupa i due spazi principali: il soffitto della passerella, segnato da un lungo cipresso dipinto, e il cuore della Chiesa, l’abside. Su un azzurro intenso propone il tema delle mani in gesto offerente, integrate nell’iconografia mariana delle 22 formelle poste sopra le finestre, le cui simbologie sono state suggerite da Padre Giovanni Pozzi, anch’egli ben segnalato nell’esposizione alla Fondazione Epper con carte e documenti relativi al suo ruolo di esegeta della dimensione mariana della chiesa del Tamaro, messi a disposizione dalla Biblioteca Salita dei Frati di Lugano.
Per l’occasione é stato realizzato un catalogo con numerose immagini della lavorazione del film e della costruzione della chiesa del Tamaro, con la presenza dei protagonisti, l’architetto Mario Botta l’artista Enzo Cucchi, l’imprenditore Egidio Cattaneo e P. Giovanni Pozzi. È completato da testimonianze d’epoca degli stessi Botta e Cucchi, di Villi Hermann e un intervento di Dalmazio Ambrosioni pubblicato sul Giornale del Popolo nel giugno 1996.
It is the encounter between Mario Botta, an architect, the painter and sculptor Enzo Cucchi, a protagonist of the Transavantgarde, one of the most interesting seasons of twentieth-century art, and the Ticino-based filmmaker Villi Hermann, who has presented his films and documentaries (St. Gotthard, Matlosa, Innocence, Bankomatt, Gotthard Schuh, a sensual view of the world, etc.) at major international festivals. Commissioned by Egidio Cattaneo, on Mount Tamaro Mario Botta built the church dedicated to St. Mary of the Angels, consecrated in 1996. It has since figured among international architectural and art destinations. Entrepreneur Egidio Cattaneo fondly recalled that phone call one Saturday morning, "Architect, since you are having difficulties in Mogno, come to us on Mount Tamaro to build your church." Said and done, but in the meantime the difficulties unraveled and Mogno too got its church, a high example of contemporary religious architecture.
The exhibition at the Epper Foundation brings together works by the three protagonists. A series of black-and-white photographs taken by the filmmaker during the making of the film, a careful selection of sketches and drawings made by Mario Botta during the course of the work, and a series of works by Enzo Cucchi lent to the Epper Foundation in Ascona by MASI, Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana.
Villi Hermann's documentary has just been restored and in its new form is being screened ad August 7, 2023 at the Locarno Film Festival in the "Histoire(s) du cinéma" section. The exhibition, the first on the subject, thus stems from the opportunity to contextualize the film, which is titled "TAMARO. Stones and Angels. Made of porphyry, Mario Botta's church stands at the edge of the slope beyond which there is an extraordinary panoramic view. Enzo Cucchi's artistic intervention occupies the two main spaces: the walkway ceiling, marked by a long painted cypress tree, and the heart of the church, the apse. On a deep blue he proposes the theme of hands in offertory gesture, integrated in the Marian iconography of the 22 panels placed above the windows, whose symbologies were suggested by Father Giovanni Pozzi, also well reported in the exhibition at the Epper Foundation with papers and documents related to his role as exegete of the Marian dimension of the Tamaro Church, made available by the Salita dei Frati Library in Lugano.
A catalog was produced for the occasion with numerous images of the making of the film and the construction of the Tamaro church, featuring the protagonists, architect Mario Botta artist Enzo Cucchi, entrepreneur Egidio Cattaneo and Fr. Giovanni Pozzi. It is complemented by period testimonies by Botta and Cucchi themselves, Villi Hermann and a speech by Dalmazio Ambrosioni published in the Giornale del Popolo in June 1996.
