Laura J. Padgett legt in ihrer künstlerischen Praxis die historischen Schichtungen frei, deren Oberfläche unsere Gegenwart bildet. Ihre neuen Arbeiten, die über fast zwei Jahre hinweg im Frankfurter Poelzig-Bau entstanden sind, werfen Licht auf die komplexe Geschichte des Bauwerks. Architektur- und Industriehistorie, Verstrickung in den Nationalsozialismus, Nachkriegsgeschichte unter amerikanischer Militärverwaltung und der Bezug durch die J.-W.-Goethe-Universität bilden markante Überlagerungen. Daneben macht Padgett einen weiteren Gedächtnisraum des Gebäudes aus: Die universitären Sammlungen als Materialisierung von Kulturgeschichte und der permanenten Metamorphose unseres Blickes darauf.

Dans sa pratique artistique, Laura J. Padgett met à nu les stratifications historiques dont la surface constitue notre présent. Ses nouveaux travaux, réalisés pendant près de deux ans dans le Poelzig-Bau de Francfort, mettent en lumière l'histoire complexe de ce bâtiment. L'histoire de l'architecture et de l'industrie, l'implication dans le national-socialisme, l'histoire d'après-guerre sous administration militaire américaine et la référence à l'université J.-W. Goethe forment des superpositions marquantes. Par ailleurs, Padgett identifie un autre espace de mémoire du bâtiment : Les collections universitaires comme matérialisation de l'histoire culturelle et de la métamorphose permanente de notre regard sur elle.

Nella sua pratica artistica, Laura J. Padgett scopre gli strati storici la cui superficie forma il nostro presente. Le sue nuove opere, realizzate nell'arco di quasi due anni nell'edificio Poelzig di Francoforte, fanno luce sulla complessa storia dell'edificio. La storia architettonica e industriale, il coinvolgimento nel nazionalsocialismo, la storia del dopoguerra sotto l'amministrazione militare americana e il riferimento all'Università J.-W.-Goethe formano suggestive sovrapposizioni. Padgett individua anche un ulteriore spazio di memoria nell'edificio: Le collezioni universitarie come materializzazione della storia culturale e della metamorfosi permanente della nostra visione di essa.

In her artistic practice, Laura J. Padgett reveals the historical layers beneath the outer crust of the present. Her new work, which she made during the last two years at the Poelzig-Bau in Frankfurt, sheds light on the complex background of the building. Architectural and industrial history, collusion with National Socialism, post WWII history under the American military administration, and most recently becoming home to the J.W. Goethe University since 2001 manifest themselves in significant overlays. Further, Padgett has identified another area of memory within the building: the university collections are evidence of our cultural history and the ongoing metamorphosis how we perceive it.
