In der kollektiven Vorstellungswelt, die mithilfe von Marketingkampagnen gepflegt wird, wird der Weihnachtsmann immer hell erleuchtet dargestellt, mit einem buschigen weißen Bart, einem makellosen roten Anzug, korpulent, lächelnd und liebevoll. Aber wie sieht es in der "Realität" aus? Der Sammler Jean-Marie Donat hat Flohmärkte in ganz Europa besucht, um diese außergewöhnliche Sammlung von Fotografien aus den 1930er bis 1970er Jahren zusammenzutragen, auf denen man sieht, wie aus dem wohlwollenden Mythos ein Albtraum aus Banalitäten und Ungeschicklichkeiten wird. Mit Humor scheint diese Serie vor allem unsere kindlichen Verdächtigungen zu bestätigen: Ist der Weihnachtsmann nicht ein Mann wie alle anderen?
Dans l’imaginaire collectif, entretenu à grand coup de campagnes marketing, le Père Noël est toujours représenté de manière lumineuse, barbe blanche touffue, costume rouge impeccable, corpulent, souriant et affectueux. Mais qu’en est-il en « réalité » ? Le collectionneur Jean-Marie Donat a parcouru les marchés aux puces de toute l’Europe pour rassembler cette collection extraordinaire de photographies allant des années 30 aux années 70, dans lesquelles on voit le mythe bienveillant devenir un cauchemar de banalités et de maladresses. Avec humour, cette série semble surtout confirmer nos soupçons enfantins : le Père Noël ne serait-il pas un homme comme les autres ?
Nell'immaginario collettivo, alimentato dalle campagne di marketing, Babbo Natale è sempre rappresentato come una figura luminosa, con una folta barba bianca e un vestito rosso, corpulento, sorridente e affettuoso. Ma qual è la realtà? Il collezionista Jean-Marie Donat ha setacciato i mercatini delle pulci di tutta Europa per mettere insieme questa straordinaria raccolta di fotografie dagli anni Trenta agli anni Settanta, in cui vediamo il mito benevolo trasformarsi in un incubo di banalità e goffaggini. Soprattutto, questa serie umoristica sembra confermare i nostri sospetti infantili sul fatto che Babbo Natale sia un uomo come tutti gli altri.
Advertisements generally encourage us to picture Santa Claus as a cheerful chubby man with a bushy white beard and a smart red suit, always smiling and huggable. But what’s he really like? Collector Jean-Marie Donat scoured flea markets all over Europe to compile this extraordinary collection of photographs from the 1930s to the 1970s, in which we see the beloved myth become a nightmare of triviality and awkward clumsiness. This witty series seems most likely to confirm our childhood suspicions: Is Santa Claus just an ordinary man, after all?
