Günther Selichar (1960 Linz, AT – Wien, AT) ist Fotograf, Medienkünstler und -theoretiker und arbeitet seit mehr als 35 Jahren an Themen, die sich mit der Vermittlung, Technik, Wahrnehmung und Präsentation von Bildern befassen. Dabei analysiert Selichar die Wechselwirkung zwischen Mensch und medialer Maschine. Mit einem sowohl wissenschaftlichen als auch philosophischen Blick beobachtet der Künstler die durch Massenmedien gefilterte Wahrnehmung der Wirklichkeit. Eine wesentliche Rolle dabei spielt – als das „Fenster zur Welt“ – der Bildschirm, der unseren Alltag durchdringt und uns nur einen vermeintlich unverstellten und unbegrenzten Blick auf das wahre Geschehen ermöglicht. Neben dem Monitor stehen auch das mediale Licht und der Scanner – als standardisiertes Eingabemedium – im Zentrum der Auseinandersetzung.
In der formalen Umsetzung seiner Werke arbeitet Günther Selichar reduziert und minimalistisch. Dabei fügt er der Geschichte der Abstraktion einen wesentlichen medialen Aspekt hinzu, der zahlreiche Bezüge zur Malerei aufweist. Gerade heute, in einer zunehmend durchdigitalisierten Lebenswelt, sind Selichars Werke relevanter denn je.
Die Ausstellung wurde von Kerstin Stremmel und Andrea Lehner-Hagwood kuratiert.
Günther Selichar (1960 Linz, AT - Vienne, AT) est photographe, artiste et théoricien des médias. Il travaille depuis plus de 35 ans sur des thèmes liés à la médiation, la technique, la perception et la présentation des visuels. Dans ce cadre, Selichar analyse l'interaction entre l'homme et la machine médiatique. Avec un regard à la fois scientifique et philosophique, l'artiste observe la perception de la réalité filtrée par les médias de masse. L'écran joue ici un rôle essentiel - en tant que "fenêtre sur le monde" - qui imprègne notre quotidien et ne nous offre qu'une vue prétendument dégagée et illimitée sur les véritables événements. Outre l'écran, la lumière médiatique et le scanner - en tant que moyen d'entrée standardisé - sont également au centre de la réflexion.
Dans la réalisation formelle de ses œuvres, Günther Selichar travaille de manière réduite et minimaliste. Ce faisant, il ajoute à l'histoire de l'abstraction un aspect médiatique essentiel, qui présente de nombreux liens avec la peinture. Aujourd'hui, dans un monde de plus en plus numérisé, les œuvres de Selichar sont plus pertinentes que jamais.

Nel farlo, Selichar analizza l'interazione tra l'uomo e la macchina mediale. Con occhio scientifico e filosofico, l'artista osserva la percezione della realtà filtrata dai mass media. Un ruolo essenziale in tutto questo - come "finestra sul mondo" - è svolto dallo schermo, che permea la nostra vita quotidiana e ci permette solo una visione presumibilmente libera e senza ostacoli di ciò che sta realmente accadendo. Oltre al monitor, anche la luce mediale e lo scanner - come supporto di input standardizzato - sono al centro della discussione.
Nella realizzazione formale delle sue opere, Günther Selichar lavora in modo ridotto e minimalista. In questo modo, aggiunge un aspetto mediale essenziale alla storia dell'astrazione, che ha numerosi riferimenti alla pittura. Soprattutto oggi, in un mondo sempre più digitalizzato, le opere di Selichar sono più che mai attuali.

In doing so, Selichar analyzes the interaction between humans and the medial machine. With both a scientific and philosophical eye, the artist observes the perception of reality filtered through mass media. An essential role in this - as the "window to the world" - is played by the screen, which permeates our everyday lives and allows us only a supposedly unobstructed and unrestricted view of what is really happening. In addition to the monitor, the medial light and the scanner - as a standardized input medium - are also at the center of the discussion.
In the formal realization of his works, Günther Selichar works in a reduced and minimalist manner. In doing so, he adds an essential medial aspect to the history of abstraction, which shows numerous references to painting. Especially today, in an increasingly digitalized world, Selichar's works are more relevant than ever.
