Die Galerie CAMERA WORK präsentiert ab dem 29. April 2023 eine Ausstellung mit 40 Werken von Russell James. Dieser zählt zu den weltweit führenden Mode- und Portraitfotografen und ist darüber hinaus bekannt für das gemeinnützige Kunstprojekt »Nomad Two Worlds«, das von den globalen Auswirkungen des Aufeinandertreffens verschiedener Kulturen inspiriert ist.
Die Ausstellung zeichnet die Entwicklung des Fotografen seit Beginn seiner künstlerischen Karriere nach. Neben Hauptwerken wie »Toni« und »Kendall Running« werden auch Arbeiten zu sehen sein, die weltweit das erste Mal ausgestellt werden. Die Porträts legen dar, wie viele Topmodel-Karrieren Russell James bislang begleitet und wesentlich mitgeprägt hat. So entstand 2018 auf Wunsch von Kendall Jenner in Kooperation mit dem Künstler das intimste Fotoshooting ihres Lebens. Aus vielen bedeutenden künstlerischen Beziehungen Russell James’ sind Verbindungen erwachsen, die sich über die gemeinsame Arbeit hinaus definieren und sich beispielsweise auch in einem langjährigen philanthropischen Engagement des Topmodels Toni Garrn und des Künstler widerspiegeln.
Dem gebürtigen Australier gelang Ende der 1990er Jahre in New York der internationale Durchbruch als Fotograf. Mit seiner ersten Ausstellung bei CAMERA WORK hat er sich auf dem internationalen Kunstmarkt als Künstler etabliert, der die klassische Ästheti[k der Modefotografie des späten 20. Jahrhunderts mit zeitgenössischen Elementen verbindet. Daher gilt er auf dem Kunstmarkt als Fotograf, der die Arbeit von Künstlern wie Herb Ritts und Patrick Demarchelier weiterentwickelt und die Supermodel-Fotografie im 21. Jahrhundert maßgeblich beeinflusst. Seine fotografischen Arbeiten reflektieren zudem auch die Kultur seines Heimatlandes Australien. Besondere Landschaften, beeindruckende Szenerien und spektakuläre Lichtverhältnisse tragen zum individuellen S[l des Künstlers bei. Der vielfach prämierte Fotograf wurde zuletzt mit der »Medal of the Order of Australia 2022« ausgezeichnet. James’ Werke sind in international renommierten Kunstsammlungen vertreten und werden weltweit in musealen Ausstellungen gezeigt – u. a. in der National Gallery of Victoria in Australien. Russell James wird in Europa exklusiv von CAMERA WORK vertreten. Russell James und CAMERA WORK unterstützen mit der Ausstellung die Toni Garrn Foundation. Die Stiftung wurde 2016 gegründet und setzt sich für Mädchen und junge Frauen in Afrika ein. Sie fördert den Auf- und Ausbau von Bildungsprojekten und der dazugehörigen Infrastruktur, um Mädchen einen sicheren und beständigen Zugang zu Ausbildungsstätten zu ermöglichen. Partner sind Bildungseinrichtungen von Kindergärten, über Schulen bis hin zu Ausbildungszentren. Die Stiftung ist in Burundi, Ghana und Uganda aktiv.
La galerie CAMERA WORK présentera une exposition de 40 œuvres de Russell James à partir du 29 avril 2023. Ce dernier compte parmi les plus grands photographes de mode et de portrait au monde et est en outre connu pour son projet artistique à but non lucratif "Nomad Two Worlds", inspiré par l'impact global de la rencontre de différentes cultures.
L'exposition retrace l'évolution du photographe depuis le début de sa carrière artistique. Outre des œuvres majeures comme "Toni" et "Kendall Running", on y verra également des travaux exposés pour la première fois au monde. Ces portraits illustrent le nombre de carrières de top-modèles que Russell James a accompagnées jusqu'à présent et qu'il a largement contribué à façonner. C'est ainsi qu'en 2018, à la demande de Kendall Jenner, la séance photo la plus intime de sa vie a été réalisée en coopération avec l'artiste. De nombreuses relations artistiques importantes de Russell James ont donné naissance à des liens qui se définissent au-delà du travail commun et qui se reflètent par exemple dans l'engagement philanthropique de longue date du top-modèle Toni Garrn et de l'artiste.
L'Australien d'origine a réussi à la fin des années 1990 à New York sa percée internationale en tant que photographe. Avec sa première exposition chez CAMERA WORK, il s'est établi sur le marché international de l'art comme un artiste qui allie l'esthétique classique de la photographie de mode de la fin du 20e siècle à des éléments contemporains. Les partenaires sont des établissements d'enseignement allant des jardins d'enfants aux écoles et aux centres de formation. La fondation est active au Burundi, au Ghana et en Ouganda.

CAMERA WORK gallery presents an exhibition of 40 works by Russell James starting April 29, 2023. The latter is one of the world's leading fashion and portrait photographers and is also known for the non-profit art project "Nomad Two Worlds", which is inspired by the global impact of the clash of different cultures.
The exhibition traces the photographer's development since the beginning of his artistic career. In addition to major works such as "Toni" and "Kendall Running," it will also feature works that are being exhibited for the first time anywhere in the world. The portraits expose how many top model careers Russell James has accompanied and significantly shaped so far. For example, in 2018, at the request of Kendall Jenner, the most intimate photo shoot of her life was created in cooperation with the artist. From many significant artistic relationships Russell James' connections have grown, which are defined beyond the joint work and are also reflected, for example, in a long-standing philanthropic commitment of the top model Toni Garrn and the artist.
