Eine Übersichtsausstellung des renommierten Dokumentarfotografen Alain le Garsmeur, der vor allem durch seine Arbeit für die Sunday Times und das Observer Magazine in den 70er und 80er Jahren und seine Reportagen über das Alltagsleben in Nordirland während der Unruhen bekannt ist.
Der in Nordirland lebende Le Garsmeur ist einer der bedeutendsten Fotografen, die in den letzten Jahrzehnten hier tätig waren. Diese längst überfällige Überblicksausstellung bei Belfast Exposed zeichnet Le Garsmeurs Karriere nach, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf seiner fotografischen Arbeit liegt, die soziale Umwälzungen und politische Unruhen auf der ganzen Welt dokumentiert.
Le Garsmeur war ein produktiver Editorial- und Dokumentarfotograf, der zunächst als Assistent von großen Fotografen wie Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin und Donald Silverstein in Paris und London arbeitete. Später erlangte er durch seine Arbeit für das Observer Magazine und andere Publikationen wie The Independent, Newsweek und The Sunday Times große Anerkennung.
Alain le Garsmeurs Dokumentation der Ereignisse in Nordirland während der Unruhen ist von besonderer Bedeutung. Sein umfangreiches Bildarchiv aus dieser Zeit katalogisiert sowohl die Schrecken als auch die Menschlichkeit des Alltagslebens in Nordirland.

Cette exposition, attendue depuis longtemps à Belfast Exposed, retrace la carrière de Le Garsmeur, en mettant l'accent sur son travail photographique qui témoigne des bouleversements sociaux et de l'agitation politique dans le monde entier.

A survey exhibition of renowned documentary photographer Alain le Garsmeur, who is best known for his work for the Sunday Times and Observer Magazine in the 70 & 80s and his coverage of everyday life in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.
Based in Northern Ireland, Le Garsmeur is one of the most significant photographers to have operated here over the past decades. This long-overdue survey exhibition at Belfast Exposed maps Le Garsmeur’s career, with particular focus on his photographic work recording social upheaval and political unrest around the world.
A prolific editorial and documentary photographer, Le Garsmeur started out as an assistant to such great photographers as Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin and Donald Silverstein, working in both Paris and London. Later, his work for The Observer Magazine, and other publications such The Independent, Newsweek and The Sunday Times garnered him widespread acclaim.

Belfast Exposed will host an Artist Talk with Le Garsmeur on Thursday 29th June at 18:00. Hear Le Garsmeur talk the audience through his career, some of his most iconic images and his approach to photojournalism.
