Jungjin LEE ist eine koreanische Künstlerin, die seit 1988 in den USA lebt. Sie studierte Fotografie an der New York University und war Assistentin von Robert Frank.
Sie fotografierte zunächst dokumentarisch, wandte sich aber in den 90er Jahren einer formalen Suche zu, bei der das fotografische Material mit der Plastizität der Zeichnung behandelt wird, indem sie die Bildträger mit lichtempfindlicher Flüssigkeit behandelt. Diese formale Suche wird von einer Sensibilität getragen, die sie völlig einnimmt und eine wahrhaft existenzielle Herausforderung darstellt.
Sie fühlt sich von Wüstenorten, Felsen und Wasserlandschaften angezogen. Ihre Fotografie ist die Erfassung einer mentalen Landschaft. Für Jungjin Lee ist das Fotografieren ein inneres Abenteuer, eine Meditation.
Ihre Werke sind in zahlreichen Sammlungen und Museen wie dem Metropolitan Museum New York, Whitney Museum, New York, Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul usw. vertreten.
Die Ausstellung ist in Zusammenarbeit mit der Galerie Stephan Witschi entstanden.
Jungjin LEE est une artiste coréenne qui vit aux États-Unis depuis 1988. Elle a étudié la photographie à l'université de New York et a été l'assistante de Robert Frank.
Elle a d'abord photographié de manière documentaire, mais s'est tournée dans les années 90 vers une recherche formelle où le matériau photographique est traité avec la plasticité du dessin, en traitant le support de l'image avec un liquide photosensible. Cette recherche formelle est portée par une sensibilité qui l'absorbe totalement et constitue un véritable défi existentiel.
Elle est attirée par les lieux désertiques, les rochers et les paysages aquatiques. Sa photographie est la capture d'un paysage mental. Pour Jungjin Lee, la photographie est une aventure intérieure, une méditation.
Ses œuvres sont présentes dans de nombreuses collections et musées tels que le Metropolitan Museum de New York, le Whitney Museum de New York, le Seoul Museum of Art de Séoul, etc.
