Odesa Photo Days ist ein internationales Festival für zeitgenössische Fotografie und eine Bildungsplattform. Es stellt die ukrainische Fotografie in den Mittelpunkt und schafft eine Verbindung zwischen Künstlern, Kuratoren und Forschern aus verschiedenen Teilen der Welt: Europa, USA, Asien... Die achte Ausgabe des Festivals sollte im Mai 2022 stattfinden, musste jedoch zwei Monate vorher abgesagt werden. Seitdem bemühen sich die Direktorin Kateryna Radchenko und ihr Team, über die Situation im Land aufzuklären und die vom Krieg betroffenen ukrainischen Fotografen und Fotografinnen zu unterstützen.
Die Ausstellung wurde in der Eile nach dem Ausbruch des Krieges in der Ukraine durch Russland im Februar 2022 konzipiert und zeigt 15 ukrainische Künstler und Kollektive, die von der Direktorin des einzigen Fotofestivals des Landes ausgewählt wurden. Die vor den Ereignissen entstandenen Bilder thematisieren verschiedene Aspekte des Lebens in der Ukraine, die zwischen der Verbundenheit mit dem Heimatland und der politischen und psychologischen Beunruhigung durch die Nachbarmacht schwanken. Die Künstler setzen sich mit den Begriffen Heimat, Identität und Zugehörigkeit auseinander, erforschen die Spuren der sowjetischen Vergangenheit und spiegeln die Angst und die unbewusste Vorbereitung auf das schlimmste Szenario wider, die in den Köpfen, Gesprächen und im Alltag vorherrschten. Der Schatten der russischen Herrschaftsbestrebungen liegt seit der Unabhängigkeit des Landes im Jahr 1991 wie ein böses Omen über dem Land. Die Ukraine ist immer noch von ihrer Geschichte geprägt, die von Tragödien und erzwungener Migration geprägt ist, hat jedoch ihre Identität, die sich aus verschiedenen Traditionen, Ursprüngen und Bestrebungen zusammensetzt, erneut bekräftigt. Die künstlerische Dynamik des Landes und seine Öffnung nach Europa begünstigen heute die Freizügigkeit ukrainischer Künstlerinnen und Künstler, auch wenn viele von ihnen in der Ukraine bleiben wollten, um die Ereignisse zu dokumentieren. Ihre Werke bieten einen Einblick in die Ukraine aus der Sicht ihrer Bewohner vor dem angekündigten Kataklysmus.
STAND WITH UKRAINE ist ein Veranstaltungs- und Ausstellungsprogramm, das vom Diagonal-Netzwerk und seinen Mitgliedern in Verbindung mit dem Festival Odesa Photo Days initiiert wurde, um das ukrainische fotografische Schaffen zu unterstützen. Ermöglicht wird das Programm durch die Unterstützung des Kulturministeriums als Hauptpartner, des Institut français, der SAIF und der ADAGP sowie - für die Ausstellung Paysage présage - der Picto Foundation und Encadrement Flamant.

Odesa Photo Days est un festival international de photographie contemporaine et une plateforme pédagogique. Il met en avant la photographie ukrainienne et crée du lien entre artistes, conservateur·rices et chercheur·euses de différentes parties du monde : Europe, États-Unis, Asie… La 8ème édition du festival devait se tenir en mai 2022, mais a dû être annulée deux mois avant. Depuis, sa directrice Kateryna Radchenko et son équipe s’efforcent de faire connaître la situation du pays et de soutenir les photographes ukrainien·nes touché·es par la guerre.
Conçue dans l’urgence après le déclenchement de la guerre en Ukraine par la Russie en février 2022, cette exposition présente 15 artistes et collectifs ukrainiens choisis par la directrice du seul festival photo du pays. Ces images réalisées avant les événements évoquent divers aspects de la vie en Ukraine, oscillant entre l’attachement au pays natal et l’inquiétude politique et psychologique que fait peser la puissance voisine. Les artistes abordent ainsi les notions de foyer, d’identité et d’appartenance, explorent les traces du passé soviétique, traduisent l’anxiété et la préparation inconsciente au scénario du pire qui prévalait dans les esprits, les conversations et la vie quotidienne. L’ombre des velléités de domination russes plane comme un mauvais présage depuis l’indépendance du pays en 1991. Encore marquée par son histoire jalonnée de tragédies et de migrations forcées, l’Ukraine a néanmoins réaffirmé son identité constituée de traditions, d’origines et d’aspirations variées. Le dynamisme artistique du pays et son ouverture vers l’Europe favorisent aujourd’hui la circulation des artistes ukrainien·nes, bien que beaucoup aient souhaité rester sur place pour documenter les événements. Leurs œuvres offrent un aperçu de l’Ukraine par ses habitant·es, avant le cataclysme annoncé.
STAND WITH UKRAINE est un programme d’événements et d’expositions initié par le réseau Diagonal et ses membres en association avec le festival Odesa Photo Days en soutien à la création photographique ukrainienne. Ce programme est rendu possible grâce au soutien du ministère de la Culture, partenaire principal, de l’Institut français, de la SAIF et de l’ADAGP et, pour l’exposition Paysage présage, de Picto Foundation et d’Encadrement Flamant.

Odesa Photo Days è un festival internazionale di fotografia contemporanea e una piattaforma educativa. Promuove la fotografia ucraina e crea legami tra artisti, curatori e ricercatori di diverse parti del mondo: Europa, Stati Uniti, Asia... L'ottava edizione del festival avrebbe dovuto svolgersi nel maggio 2022, ma è stata cancellata due mesi prima. Da allora, la direttrice Kateryna Radchenko e il suo team lavorano per sensibilizzare l'opinione pubblica sulla situazione del Paese e per sostenere i fotografi ucraini colpiti dalla guerra.
Concepita in fretta e furia dopo lo scoppio della guerra in Ucraina da parte della Russia nel febbraio 2022, questa mostra presenta 15 artisti e collettivi ucraini scelti dal direttore dell'unico festival fotografico del Paese. Queste immagini, realizzate prima degli eventi, evocano vari aspetti della vita in Ucraina, oscillando tra l'attaccamento alla patria e l'ansia politica e psicologica causata dalla potenza vicina. In questo modo, gli artisti affrontano le nozioni di casa, identità e appartenenza, esplorano le tracce del passato sovietico e riflettono l'ansia e la preparazione inconscia allo scenario peggiore che prevaleva nelle menti, nelle conversazioni e nella vita quotidiana delle persone. L'ombra della dominazione russa si è profilata come un cattivo presagio fin dall'indipendenza del Paese nel 1991. Ancora segnata da una storia di tragedie e migrazioni forzate, l'Ucraina ha comunque riaffermato la propria identità, fatta di una varietà di tradizioni, origini e aspirazioni. Il dinamismo artistico del Paese e la sua apertura all'Europa incoraggiano ora la circolazione degli artisti ucraini, anche se molti hanno voluto rimanere nel Paese per documentare gli eventi. Le loro opere offrono uno sguardo sull'Ucraina attraverso i suoi abitanti, prima del cataclisma previsto.

Odesa Photo Days is an international festival of contemporary photography and an educational platform. It highlights Ukrainian photography and creates links between artists, curators and researchers from different parts of the world: Europe, USA, Asia... The 8th edition of the festival was supposed to take place in May 2022, but had to be cancelled two months before. Since then, its director Kateryna Radchenko and her team have been working to raise awareness of the situation in the country and to support Ukrainian photographers affected by the war.
Conceived in an emergency after the outbreak of war in Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, this exhibition presents 15 Ukrainian artists and collectives chosen by the director of the country's only photo festival. These images made before the events evoke various aspects of life in Ukraine, oscillating between attachment to the native country and the political and psychological anxiety caused by the neighboring power. The artists address notions of home, identity and belonging, explore traces of the Soviet past, and reflect the anxiety and unconscious preparation for the worst-case scenario that prevailed in people's minds, conversations and daily lives. The shadow of Russian domination hovers like a bad omen since the country's independence in 1991. Still marked by its history of tragedy and forced migration, Ukraine has nevertheless reaffirmed its identity made up of various traditions, origins and aspirations. The country's artistic dynamism and its openness to Europe today favor the circulation of Ukrainian artists, although many have wished to remain in the country to document the events. Their works offer a glimpse of Ukraine through its inhabitants, before the announced cataclysm.
