Seit Jahrtausenden sind die Menschen aller Kulturen vom Meer fasziniert und haben es in einer Vielzahl von künstlerischen Formen dargestellt. Der Ozean ist die Quelle des Lebens auf der Erde und steht symbolisch für das unbegrenzte Spektrum des belebten Seins. Die unendliche Bewegung dieser Wassermassen symbolisiert auch Stabilität. Umgekehrt können die Ozeane auch für Formlosigkeit und Chaos stehen und in der Traumdeutung für das kollektive und persönliche Unbewusste.
Die Werke von Amy Friend (CA), Martin Bogren (SE), Philipp Keel (CH), Jeffrey Conley (US), Sandro Diener (CH), Kacper Kowalski (PL), Renato D'Agostin (IT), Rachel Thomson (UK), Werner Bischof (CH) und Casper Faassen (NL) werden zum ersten Mal in der Bildhalle Amsterdam ausgestellt.
Wir werden auch eine Zeitreise in die Vergangenheit unternehmen und ikonische Fotos der Magnum-Fotografen Werner Bischof (CH) und Thomas Hoepker (DE/US) zeigen. Thirza Schaap (NL) wird uns mit ihrer bahnbrechenden Serie Plastic Ocean mit einer hässlichen Realität konfrontieren. Paul Cupido (NL) wird uns mit seinen neuen Pigmentdrucken auf japanischem Kozo-Papier überraschen und das Künstlerduo Albarrán Cabrera (ES) wird uns mit seinen poetischen Pigmentdrucken auf Blattgold verzaubern. Bastiaan Woudt (NL) kehrt an den Willemsparkweg zurück und verblüfft mit einem kraftvollen Bild aus seiner Serie Mukono und Ilona Langbroek (NL) hat neue Kunst geschaffen, die uns den Atem rauben wird.
"Für mich ist das Kuratieren einer Gruppenausstellung wie das Komponieren von Musik. Stille, ruhige Bilder wechseln sich mit Crescendos ab. Kleine Juwelen sind Rezitationen, die die Arien der großen Formate ergänzen. Farbige Arbeiten bilden Duette mit Schwarzweißfotografien. Sowohl die Musik als auch die Bilder kommen im Wesentlichen ohne Worte aus; sie sprechen für sich selbst und mit großer Beredsamkeit, eine Eigenschaft, die der Vielfalt der von uns vertretenen Künstler gemeinsam ist. Eine gut kuratierte Gruppenausstellung vereint diese Vielfalt, destilliert sie in die DNA der Bildhalle und vermittelt sie den Besuchern.
Bei dem Wort "Ozean" denkt man sofort an das Unendliche. Es ist überwältigend groß und wird nur durch den Horizont begrenzt, die Horizontlinie, die in der Kunst eine so entscheidende Rolle spielt, da sie Erde und Himmel, Traum und Wirklichkeit, nah und fern, das Erhabene und das Alltägliche trennt und zugleich vereint. Depuis des milliers d'années, des personnes de toutes les civilisations ont été intriguées par l'océan et l'ont représenté dans une diversité de formes artistiques. L'océan est la source de la vie sur terre et symbolise le spectre illimité des êtres animés. Le mouvement infini de ces masses d'eau symbolise également la stabilité. À l'inverse, les océans peuvent aussi représenter l'informe et le chaos et, dans l'interprétation des rêves, l'inconscient collectif et personnel.
Les œuvres d'Amy Friend (CA), Martin Bogren (SE), Philipp Keel (CH), Jeffrey Conley (US), Sandro Diener (CH), Kacper Kowalski (PL), Renato D'Agostin (IT), Rachel Thomson (UK), Werner Bischof (CH) et Casper Faassen (NL) sont présentées pour la première fois à la Bildhalle d'Amsterdam.
Nous remonterons également dans le temps en exposant des photos iconiques des photographes Magnum Werner Bischof (CH) et Thomas Hoepker (DE/US). Thirza Schaap (NL) nous confrontera à une réalité peu glorieuse à travers sa série révolutionnaire Plastic Ocean. Paul Cupido (NL) nous surprendra avec ses nouvelles impressions pigmentaires sur papier Kozo japonais et le duo d'artistes Albarrán Cabrera (ES) nous enchantera avec ses impressions pigmentaires poétiques sur feuille d'or. Bastiaan Woudt (NL) reviendra à la Willemsparkweg et nous éblouira avec une image puissante de sa série Mukono et Ilona Langbroek (NL) a créé un nouvel art qui nous coupera le souffle.
"Pour moi, être commissaire d'une exposition collective, c'est comme composer de la musique. Des images silencieuses et tranquilles alternent avec des crescendos. Les petits joyaux sont des récitatifs complétant les arias des grands formats. Les œuvres en couleur forment des duos avec les photographies en noir et blanc. La musique et les images sont essentiellement dépourvues de mots ; elles parlent d'elles-mêmes et avec une grande éloquence, une qualité partagée par la diversité des artistes que nous représentons. Une exposition collective bien conçue rassemble cette diversité, la distille dans l'ADN de la Bildhalle et la communique aux visiteurs.
Le mot "océan" évoque instantanément l'infini. D'une immensité démesurée, il n'est limité que par l'horizon, cette ligne d'horizon qui joue un rôle si crucial dans l'art, séparant et unissant à la fois la terre et le ciel, le rêve et la réalité, le proche et le lointain, le sublime et le quotidien". Per migliaia di anni, gli uomini di tutte le civiltà sono stati incuriositi dall'oceano e lo hanno raffigurato in una varietà di forme artistiche. L'oceano è la fonte della vita sulla terra e simboleggia lo spettro illimitato degli esseri animati. Il movimento infinito di queste masse d'acqua simboleggia anche la stabilità. "Per me curare una mostra collettiva è come comporre musica. Immagini silenziose e tranquille si alternano a crescendi. Piccole gemme sono recitatifs che completano le arie dei grandi formati. Sia la musica che le immagini sono essenzialmente senza parole; parlano da sole e con grande eloquenza, una qualità condivisa dalla diversità degli artisti che rappresentiamo. Una mostra collettiva ben curata unisce questa diversità, distillandola nel DNA della Bildhalle e comunicandola ai visitatori.

For thousands of years, people of all civilizations have been intrigued by the ocean and have pictured it in a diversity of artistic forms. The ocean is the source of life on earth and symbolic of the unbounded spectrum of animate being. The infinite movement of these masses of water also symbolizes stability. Conversely, the oceans may also stand for formlessness and chaos and, in the interpretation of dreams, for the collective and personal unconscious.
The works of Amy Friend (CA), Martin Bogren (SE), Philipp Keel (CH), Jeffrey Conley (US), Sandro Diener (CH), Kacper Kowalski (PL), Renato D’Agostin (IT), Rachel Thomson (UK), Werner Bischof (CH) and Casper Faassen (NL) are showcased for the first time at Bildhalle Amsterdam.
We will also step back in time by displaying iconic photos of Magnum photographers Werner Bischof (CH) and Thomas Hoepker (DE/US). Thirza Schaap (NL) will confront us with an ugly reality through her ground-breaking series Plastic Ocean. Paul Cupido (NL) will surprise us with his new pigment prints on Japanese Kozo paper and the artist duo Albarrán Cabrera (ES) will enchant us with their poetic pigment prints on gold leaf. Bastiaan Woudt (NL) will return to Willemsparkweg and dazzle with a powerful image of his series Mukono and Ilona Langbroek (NL) has created new art that will take our breaths away.
“To me, curating a group exhibition is like composing music. Silent, quiet pictures alternate with crescendos. Small gems are recitatifs complementing the arias of large formats.
