Où naissent les photographies

Die Ausstellung zeigt mehrere Projekte des Künstlers, darunter seine unveröffentlichte Serie "Photographs of Foreign Algae", die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Conservatoire du Littoral entstanden ist. Zunächst fotografierte er Orte, an denen Algen zu Fuß oder mit dem Boot gesammelt werden, sowie Orte, an denen sie gezüchtet werden, im offenen Meer oder in Teichen. Die Fotografien entstanden an der Nordküste des Finistère und in Japan, in der Bucht von Tokio, auf Hokkaido im Norden oder Okinawa im Süden des Landes. So hat er einen Katalog der Landschaften der Algenernte zusammengestellt - mit Bildern von Felsen, Häfen, Stränden und Meeresküsten - ebenso wie ein bewusst lückenhaftes Inventar der Algen, die man in der Bretagne und in Japan finden kann. Die ausgestellten Fotografien sind allesamt Einzelabzüge, die hergestellt werden, indem ein Blatt lichtempfindliches Papier in eine Fotokammer gelegt und mit einem Entwickler entwickelt wird, der mit vor Ort gesammelten oder gekauften Algen hergestellt wird. Ob schwarzer Seetang, Dulse, Nori, Kombu oder Seesalat - hier stellt der Fotograf seinen eigenen Entwickler und damit sein eigenes Bild her.
Lucas Leglise, 1992 geboren und Absolvent der École supérieure d'art de Chalon-sur-Saône sowie der Beaux-Arts de Paris, forscht seit mehreren Jahren zum Material des fotografischen Bildes selbst und zu den Bedingungen, unter denen es entsteht. Seine verschiedenen Projekte zielen darauf ab, diesem besonderen Moment, in dem sich die Fotografie offenbart, Gestalt zu verleihen, insbesondere bei den Silberverfahren. In einem ständigen Hin und Her zwischen der Welt und ihrem Abbild interessiert er sich sowohl für das, was das Licht auf den Film druckt, als auch für die Beziehung, die die Fotografien zu ihrem Referenten haben. In Lucas Leglise's Arbeit ist die beim Entwickeln gewählte Form nie belanglos, sie hat jedes Mal die gleiche Bedeutung wie das abgebildete Motiv.
L’exposition présente plusieurs projets de l’artiste, dont sa série inédite « Photographs of Foreign Algae », réalisée en partenariat avec le Conservatoire du littoral. Il a d’abord photographié des lieux où les algues sont ramassées à pied ou en bateau, ainsi que des endroits où elles sont cultivées, en pleine mer ou dans des bassins. Les photographies ont été prises sur la côte nord du Finistère et au Japon, dans la baie de Tokyo, à Hokkaido au nord ou à Okinawa au sud du pays. Il a ainsi compilé un catalogue des paysages de la récolte des algues – avec des images de rochers, de ports, de plages et d’estrans –, autant qu’un inventaire volontairement lacunaire des algues que l’on peut trouver en Bretagne et au Japon. Les photographies exposées sont toutes des tirages uniques produits en plaçant une feuille de papier photosensible dans une chambre photographique, développée à l’aide d’un révélateur préparé avec des algues ramassées ou achetées sur place. Goémon noir, dulse, nori, kombu ou laitue de mer, le sujet de la photographie fabrique ici son propre révélateur, et par extension sa propre image.
Né en 1992 et diplômé de l’École supérieure d’art de Chalon-sur-Saône puis des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Lucas Leglise mène depuis plusieurs années une recherche sur la matière même de l’image photographique et sur ses conditions d’apparition. Ses différents projets visent à donner corps à ce moment particulier où la photographie se révèle, notamment dans les procédés argentiques. Dans un mouvement de va-et-vient constant entre le monde et son image, il s’intéresse autant à ce que la lumière imprime sur la pellicule qu’au rapport que les photographies entretiennent avec leur référent. Dans le travail de Lucas Leglise, la forme choisie au moment du développement n’est jamais anodine, elle a chaque fois autant de sens que le sujet représenté.
La mostra presenta diversi progetti dell'artista, tra cui la nuova serie "Photographs of Foreign Algae", realizzata in collaborazione con il Conservatoire du littoral. L'artista ha dapprima fotografato i luoghi in cui le alghe vengono raccolte a piedi o in barca, nonché quelli in cui vengono coltivate, in mare aperto o in stagni. Le fotografie sono state scattate sulla costa settentrionale del Finistère e in Giappone, nella baia di Tokyo, a Hokkaido nel nord e a Okinawa nel sud. L'artista ha così compilato un catalogo di paesaggi di raccolta delle alghe - con immagini di rocce, porti, spiagge e rive - e un inventario volutamente incompleto delle alghe che si trovano in Bretagna e in Giappone. Le fotografie esposte sono tutte stampe singole prodotte inserendo in una macchina fotografica un foglio di carta sensibile alla luce, sviluppato con uno sviluppatore a base di alghe raccolte o acquistate localmente. Alga nera, dulse, nori, kombu o lattuga di mare, il soggetto della fotografia qui presente realizza il proprio sviluppatore e, di conseguenza, la propria immagine.
Nato nel 1992 e diplomato all'École supérieure d'art de Chalon-sur-Saône e alle Beaux-Arts de Paris, Lucas Leglise conduce da diversi anni una ricerca sulla questione stessa dell'immagine fotografica e sulle sue condizioni di apparizione. I suoi vari progetti mirano a dare corpo a questo particolare momento in cui la fotografia si rivela, in particolare nel processo dell'argento. In un costante movimento di andata e ritorno tra il mondo e la sua immagine, l'artista è interessato tanto a ciò che la luce stampa sulla pellicola quanto al rapporto che le fotografie hanno con il loro referente. Nel lavoro di Lucas Leglise, la forma scelta al momento dello sviluppo non è mai insignificante, ha ogni volta lo stesso significato del soggetto rappresentato.
The exhibition presents several of the artist's projects, including his groundbreaking series "Photographs of Foreign Algae," produced in partnership with the Conservatoire du littoral. He first photographed places where seaweed is collected on foot or by boat, as well as places where it is cultivated, in the open sea or in ponds. The photographs were taken on the northern coast of Finistère and in Japan, in the bay of Tokyo, in Hokkaido in the north or in Okinawa in the south of the country. He has thus compiled a catalog of seaweed harvesting landscapes - with images of rocks, harbors, beaches and foreshores -, as well as a voluntarily incomplete inventory of the seaweeds that can be found in Brittany and Japan. The photographs on display are all single prints produced by placing a sheet of light-sensitive paper in a camera, developed with a developer prepared with seaweed collected or purchased locally. Black seaweed, dulse, nori, kombu or sea lettuce, the subject of the photograph makes here his own developer, and by extension his own image.
Born in 1992 and a graduate of the École supérieure d'art de Chalon-sur-Saône and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, Lucas Leglise has been conducting research for several years on the very matter of the photographic image and on its conditions of appearance. His various projects aim to give substance to this particular moment when photography reveals itself, especially in the silver process. In a constant back and forth movement between the world and its image, he is as much interested in what the light prints on the film as in the relationship that the photographs have with their referent. In Lucas Leglise's work, the form chosen at the time of development is never insignificant, it has each time as much meaning as the represented subject.
