Andreas Feininger gilt als einer der einflussreichsten Fotografen des 20. Jahrhunderts. 1906 als ältester Sohn des berühmten Malers Lyonel Feininger in Paris geboren, gehört er zu einer Künstlergeneration, die in der Zeit nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg die Fotografie als künstlerisches Medium für sich entdeckte und eine neue fotografische Sehweise entwickelte. Klarheit, Einfachheit und Organisation sind für ihn die Grundprinzipien seiner Arbeit. Wie kaum ein anderer versteht er es, Bildinhalte mit strengen formalen Kriterien wie Perspektive und Komposition zu verknüpfen.
Die Architektur und das Leben seiner Wahlheimat New York haben ihn über die Jahrzehnte hinweg fasziniert. Immer wieder hielt er die Skyline von Manhattan, die Straßenschluchten, die Wolkenkratzer, die Brücken und die Hochbahnen in atmosphärisch dichten Bildern fest. Seine Ansichten der Metropole zählen heute zu den Klassikern der Fotografiegeschichte. In der Ausstellung im Bröhan-Museum werden über 90 Schwarzweiß-Fotografien gezeigt.
Die Ausstellung ist eine Kooperation mit dem Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen.

Andreas Feininger est considéré comme l'un des photographes les plus influents du 20e siècle. Né en 1906 à Paris, fils aîné du célèbre peintre Lyonel Feininger, il fait partie d'une génération d'artistes qui, au lendemain de la Première Guerre mondiale, découvre la photographie comme médium artistique et développe une nouvelle manière de voir la photographie. La clarté, la simplicité et l'organisation sont pour lui les principes de base de son travail. Comme peu d'autres, il sait associer le contenu des images à des critères formels stricts tels que la perspective et la composition.
L'architecture et la vie de sa ville d'adoption, New York, l'ont fasciné au fil des décennies. Il n'a cessé d'immortaliser la ligne d'horizon de Manhattan, les canyons des rues, les gratte-ciel, les ponts et les métros aériens dans des visuels à l'atmosphère dense. Ses vues de la métropole comptent aujourd'hui parmi les classiques de l'histoire de la photographie. L'exposition du musée Bröhan présente plus de 90 photographies en noir et blanc.
L'exposition est organisée en coopération avec le Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen.

Andreas Feininger è considerato uno dei fotografi più influenti del XX secolo. Nato a Parigi nel 1906, figlio primogenito del famoso pittore Lyonel Feininger, appartiene alla generazione di artisti che nel periodo successivo alla Prima guerra mondiale hanno scoperto la fotografia come mezzo artistico e hanno sviluppato un nuovo modo di vedere la fotografia. Chiarezza, semplicità e organizzazione sono i principi fondamentali del suo lavoro. Come nessun altro, sa come collegare il contenuto pittorico a rigorosi criteri formali come la prospettiva e la composizione.
L'architettura e la vita della sua patria adottiva, New York, lo hanno affascinato nel corso dei decenni. Più volte ha catturato lo skyline di Manhattan, i canyon delle strade, i grattacieli, i ponti e i treni sopraelevati in immagini dense di atmosfera. Oggi le sue vedute della metropoli sono tra i classici della storia della fotografia. La mostra al Bröhan Museum presenta oltre 90 fotografie in bianco e nero.
La mostra è realizzata in collaborazione con il Museo Zeppelin di Friedrichshafen.

Andreas Feininger is considered one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. Born in Paris in 1906 as the eldest son of the famous painter Lyonel Feininger, he belongs to a generation of artists who discovered photography as an artistic medium for themselves in the period after the First World War and developed a new photographic way of seeing. Clarity, simplicity and organization are the basic principles of his work. Like hardly anyone else, he understands how to link image content with strict formal criteria such as perspective and composition.
The architecture and life of his adopted city of New York have fascinated him over the decades. Again and again he captured the Manhattan skyline, the street canyons, the skyscrapers, the bridges and the elevated trains in atmospherically dense images. Today, his views of the metropolis rank among the classics of photographic history. The exhibition at the Bröhan Museum features over 90 black-and-white photographs.
The exhibition is a cooperation with the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen.
