La scia del monte ou les utopistes magnétiques

Als Antwort auf die dystopischen Szenarien, mit denen unsere heutige Gesellschaft konfrontiert ist, beschliesst das MBAL, die Utopie in Form des Erbes des mythischen Monte Verità zu feiern, der in der ganzen Welt verehrten helvetischen Wiege der Avantgarde. Diese magnetische Oase auf dem Monescia-Hügel im Tessin bot um die Wende zum 20. Jahrhundert der ersten alternativen, naturistischen, feministischen und vegetarischen Siedlung Platz, die als Vorläufer der späteren Gegenkultur-Bewegungen gilt und wo im Lauf der Jahre eine Vielzahl von Anarchisten, Denkern und Künstlern ein und aus gingen. Gefeiert durch die Ausstellung des Visionärs Harald Szeemann, Monte Verità. Le mammelle della verità (‘Die Brüste der Wahrheit‘, 1978), ist der Hügel auch heute noch ein Pilgerort, der aufrüttelt, erhellt und tröstet.
Doch was bleibt von den Utopien, die sich um dieses "Bermudadreieck des Geistes" rantken? Die in Zusammenarbeit mit der Fondazione Monte Verità entstandene Ausstellung la scia del monte (die Spur des Berges) oder die magnetischen Utopist*innen, lädt 26 zeitgenössische Künstler*innen, deren Schaffen vom Monte Verità und der ihn umgebenden Aura inspiriert wurde, ein, mit dem Geist des Ortes und seinen weiblichen Figuren in Resonanz zu treten. Der Rundgang bietet einen eklektischen und faszinierenden Dialog zwischen Natur, Kunst und Geist und hinterfragt das Konzept der "Lebensreform", das die Pioniere anstrebten. Die Ausstellung erkundet alle Medien und Techniken, von der Videokunst über Installationen, Skulpturen, Malerei, Fotografie, Gravur, Ton oder Stoff bis hin zur künstlichen Intelligenz, und unterstreicht damit unterschwellig die Bedeutung der Schweiz als Heimat für freie und radikale Geister.

En réponse aux scénarios dystopiques auxquels est confrontée notre société contemporaine, le MBAL choisit de célébrer l’utopie à travers l’héritage du mythique Monte Verità, berceau helvète d’avant-gardes, vénéré dans le monde entier. Cette oasis magnétique, située au Tessin sur la colline de Monescia, accueille au tournant du 20ème siècle la première colonie alternative, naturiste, féministe et végétarienne, précurseur des mouvements de contre-culture qui suivront, et voit défiler au fil des ans une succession d'anarchistes, de penseur·euse·x·s et d'artistes. Consacrée par l'exposition du visionnaire Harald Szeemann, Monte Verità. Le mammelle della verità (1978), la colline est encore aujourd'hui un lieu de pèlerinage qui éveille, illumine et console.
Mais que reste-t-il de ces utopies qui ont gravité autour de ce « triangle des Bermudes de l'esprit » ? Créée en collaboration avec la Fondazione Monte Verità, l’exposition la scia del monte (la trace du mont) ou les utopistes magnétiques invite 26 artistes contemporain·e·x·s, dont les créations ont été inspirées par le Monte Verità et son aura environnante, à entrer en résonnance avec le génie du lieu et ses figures féminines. Le parcours propose un dialogue éclectique et captivant entre nature, art et esprit, interrogeant la notion de « réforme de la vie » souhaitée par les précurseurs. Explorant tous les médiums et techniques, de l’art vidéo à l’intelligence artificielle en passant par l’installation, la sculpture, la peinture, la photographie, la gravure, le son ou le tissu, l’exposition souligne en creux l’importance du territoire helvète comme terre d’accueil des esprits libres et iconoclastes.

In risposta agli scenari distopici che la nostra società contemporanea si trova ad affrontare, MBAL ha scelto di celebrare l'utopia attraverso l'eredità del mitico Monte Verità, la culla svizzera delle avanguardie, venerata in tutto il mondo. All'inizio del XX secolo, quest'oasi magnetica sulla collina della Monescia, in Ticino, ha ospitato la prima colonia alternativa, naturista, femminista e vegetariana, precursore dei movimenti di controcultura che sarebbero seguiti, e nel corso degli anni ha visto passare dalle sue porte una serie di anarchici, pensatori e artisti. È stata consacrata dalla mostra del visionario Harald Szeemann Monte Verità. Le mammelle della verità (1978), la collina è ancora oggi un luogo di pellegrinaggio che risveglia, illumina e consola.
Ma cosa resta delle utopie che gravitavano intorno a questo "triangolo delle Bermuda della mente"? Realizzata in collaborazione con la Fondazione Monte Verità, la mostra La scia del monte o le utopie magnetiche invita 26 artisti contemporanei, le cui creazioni sono state ispirate dal Monte Verità e dall'aura che lo circonda, a entrare in risonanza con il genio del luogo e delle sue figure femminili. La mostra propone un dialogo eclettico e accattivante tra natura, arte e spirito, mettendo in discussione la nozione di "riforma della vita" auspicata dai precursori. Esplorando tutti i media e le tecniche, dalla videoarte all'intelligenza artificiale, all'installazione, alla scultura, alla pittura, alla fotografia, all'incisione, al suono e al tessuto, la mostra sottolinea l'importanza della Svizzera come patria di spiriti liberi e iconoclasti.

In response to the dystopian scenarios confronting our contemporary society, the MBAL has chosen to celebrate utopia through the legacy of the mythical Monte Verità, the Swiss cradle of the avant-garde, revered worldwide. This magnetic oasis on the Monescia hill in Ticino was home to the first alternative, naturist, feminist and vegetarian colony in the early 20th century, a precursor of the counter-culture movements that followed, and has seen a succession of anarchists, thinkers and artists pass through its doors over the years. Consecrated by visionary curator Harald Szeemann, with his exhibition Monte Verità. Le mammelle della verità (1978), the hill is still today a place of pilgrimage that awakens, enlightens and consoles. But what remains of the utopias that gravitated around this "Bermuda triangle of the spirit"?
Created in collaboration with the Fondazione Monte Verità, the exhibition la scia del monte (the trace of the mountain) ou les utopistes magnétiques (or the magnetic utopians) brings together 26 contemporary artists, whose creations have been inspired by Monte Verità and its surrounding aura, to resonate with the genius of the place and its female figures. The exhibition offers an eclectic and captivating dialogue between nature, art and spirit, questioning the notion of the "reform of life" desired by the precursors. Exploring all media and techniques, from video art to artificial intelligence, installation, sculpture, painting, photography, engraving, sound and fabric, the exhibition highlights the importance of Switzerland as a land of refuge for free spirits and iconoclasts.
