JAEGER ART stellt erstmalig die aktuellen Kunstwerke von Kristian Schuller in ihren Räumen in der Brunnenstrasse 161 aus. Seine unverkennbare Bildsprache hat er in gemeinsamer Arbeit mit seiner Frau Peggy weiterentwickelt und sich insbesondere auf das Zusammenspiel aus Licht und Schatten fokussiert.
Man spürt in seinen Bildern die Faszination des ewigen „Cherchez la femme“.
Aufgewachsen im rumänischen Kommunismus, manifestierte sich Kristians Abneigung gegen das zu der Zeit allgegenwärtige und sehr staubige Grau in Grau bereits im Kindesalter. Farben und Licht faszinieren ihn seither ebenso wie die Menschen, die mit Witz, Humor und Improvisation auf dieses Grau reagieren.
Die Besucher/ innen erwarten in der Ausstellung die für Schuller typischen bildgewaltigen Farbwelten, jedoch nähert er sich seinem Gegenüber dieses Mal besonders behutsam und kreiert durch den bewussten Einsatz von Unschärfe, dem Zusammenspiel von Hell und Dunkel und durch die Abkehr vom scharfgezeichneten Portraitierten etwas Mystisches, das dem Betrachter viel Raum für Interpretationen lässt.
Über diese neue Herangehensweise an seine Fotografie sagt er selbst: „Lieber träume ich mich in das Unbekannte hinein, als alles im strahlenden Licht präsentiert zu bekommen. Die Silhouette einer Frau reicht aus, um in meiner Phantasie einen ganzen Film ablaufen zu lassen. Ich habe das große Glück mit wunderbaren Menschen zusammenarbeiten zu dürfen und ihre starken Persönlichkeiten sind mir Inspiration und Auftrag zugleich. Dabei ist es egal, ob es bekannte Charaktere wie die kürzlich portraitierten Cate Blanchett, Penélope Cruz oder Lea Seydoux sind, oder ob es sich um unbekannte, fantastische Persönlichkeiten handelt. Schönheit kann nur im Zusammenspiel mit Charakter funktionieren. Alles andere ist für mich leer.“
Kristian Schuller kam im Alter von sieben Jahren mit seiner Familie aus Siebenbürgen / Rumänien nach Deutschland. Als Sohn eines Dramaturgen und Regisseurs und einer Kunstlehrerin wuchs er im Umfeld einer Theaterbühne und unterschiedlichster kreativer Einflüsse auf. Er studierte an der Universität der Künste in Berlin Fotografie bei F. C. Gundlach und Modedesign bei Vivienne Westwood. Obwohl er sich nach dem Studium letztendlich für eine Karriere als Fotograf entschied, prägen beide Disziplinen bis heute seine künstlerische Identität. Seine Frau Peggy ist Art Director und Modedesignerin und arbeitet mit Kristian im Team zusammen. Kennengelernt haben sie sich in der Klasse von Vivienne Westwood, bei der Peggy ebenfalls studierte. Ihre Entwürfe und ihr kreativer Input spielen eine wichtige Rolle in seiner Arbeit. Nach Jahren in Paris und New York ist Kristian Schuller mit seiner Familie nach Berlin zurückgekehrt.
JAEGER ART transmet pour la première fois les œuvres d'art actuelles de Kristian Schuller dans ses locaux de la Brunnenstrasse 161. En collaboration avec sa femme Peggy, il a développé son langage pictural unique en se concentrant notamment sur l'interaction entre la lumière et l'ombre.
On ressent dans ses visuels la fascination de l'éternel "Cherchez la femme".
Ayant grandi sous le communisme roumain, l'aversion de Kristian pour le gris sur gris, omniprésent et très poussiéreux à l'époque, s'est manifestée dès l'enfance. Depuis, les couleurs et la lumière le fascinent, tout comme les gens qui réagissent à ce gris avec humour, dérision et improvisation.
Dans l'exposition, les visiteurs/visiteuses s'attendent à découvrir les mondes de couleurs violents typiques de Schuller, mais cette fois-ci, il s'approche de son interlocuteur avec une prudence particulière et crée quelque chose de mystique grâce à l'utilisation consciente du flou, à l'interaction entre le clair et l'obscur et à l'abandon du portrait dessiné avec netteté, ce qui laisse beaucoup de place à l'interprétation du spectateur.
Il dit lui-même de cette nouvelle approche de sa photographie : "Je préfère rêver dans l'inconnu plutôt que de tout voir présenté dans une lumière éclatante. La silhouette d'une femme suffit à faire défiler tout un film dans mon imagination. J'ai la grande chance de pouvoir travailler avec des personnes merveilleuses et leurs fortes personnalités sont pour moi à la fois une inspiration et une mission. Peu importe qu'il s'agisse de personnages connus comme Cate Blanchett, Penélope Cruz ou Lea Seydoux, dont j'ai récemment fait le portrait, ou de personnalités inconnues et fantastiques. La beauté ne peut fonctionner qu'en interaction avec le caractère. Tout le reste est vide pour moi".
Kristian Schuller est arrivé à l'âge de sept ans avec sa famille de Transylvanie / Roumanie en Allemagne. Fils d'un dramaturge et metteur en scène et d'une enseignante d'art, il a grandi dans l'environnement d'une scène de théâtre et d'influences créatives les plus diverses. Il a étudié la photographie avec F. C. Gundlach et le design de mode avec Vivienne Westwood à l'université des arts de Berlin. Bien qu'il ait finalement opté pour une carrière de photographe à l'issue de ses études, ces deux disciplines marquent encore aujourd'hui son identité artistique. Sa femme Peggy est directrice artistique et créatrice de mode et travaille en équipe avec Kristian. Ils se sont rencontrés dans la classe de Vivienne Westwood, chez qui Peggy a également étudié. Ses dessins et son apport créatif jouent un rôle important dans son travail. Après des années passées à Paris et à New York, Kristian Schuller est revenu à Berlin avec sa famille.
JAEGER ART espone per la prima volta nelle sue sale di Brunnenstrasse 161 le opere attuali di Kristian Schuller. L'artista ha sviluppato ulteriormente il suo inconfondibile linguaggio visivo nel lavoro congiunto con la moglie Peggy, concentrandosi in particolare sul gioco di luci e ombre.
Nelle sue immagini si percepisce il fascino dell'eterno "Cherchez la femme".
Cresciuto nel comunismo rumeno, l'avversione di Kristian per l'onnipresente e polveroso grigio nel grigio dell'epoca si è manifestata fin da bambino. I colori e la luce lo affascinano da allora, così come le persone che reagiscono a questo grigio con arguzia, umorismo e improvvisazione.
I visitatori della mostra possono aspettarsi i tipici mondi di colore visivamente potenti di Schuller, ma questa volta l'artista si avvicina al suo soggetto con particolare attenzione, creando qualcosa di mistico attraverso l'uso deliberato della sfocatura, il gioco di luce e buio e rinunciando a ritratti nitidamente disegnati, lasciando allo spettatore un ampio margine di interpretazione.
Lui stesso dice di questo nuovo approccio alla sua fotografia: "Preferisco sognare me stesso nell'ignoto piuttosto che avere tutto presentato in una luce radiosa. La silhouette di una donna è sufficiente a far girare un intero film nella mia immaginazione. Sono molto fortunato a poter lavorare con persone meravigliose e le loro forti personalità sono per me fonte di ispirazione e missione. Non importa se si tratta di personaggi noti come le recenti Cate Blanchett, Penélope Cruz o Lea Seydoux, o se si tratta di personalità sconosciute e fantastiche. La bellezza può funzionare solo in tandem con il carattere. Tutto il resto è vuoto per me".
Kristian Schuller è arrivato in Germania con la famiglia dalla Transilvania/Romania all'età di sette anni. Figlio di un drammaturgo e regista e di un'insegnante d'arte, è cresciuto nell'ambiente di un palcoscenico teatrale e in un'ampia varietà di influenze creative. Ha studiato fotografia con F. C. Gundlach e fashion design con Vivienne Westwood all'Università delle Arti di Berlino. Sebbene dopo la laurea abbia deciso di intraprendere la carriera di fotografo, entrambe le discipline continuano a plasmare la sua identità artistica. Sua moglie Peggy è art director e fashion designer e lavora in team con Kristian. Si sono conosciuti nella classe di Vivienne Westwood, con la quale anche Peggy ha studiato. I suoi disegni e il suo contributo creativo giocano un ruolo importante nel suo lavoro. Dopo anni trascorsi a Parigi e New York, Kristian Schuller è tornato a Berlino con la sua famiglia.
JAEGER ART exhibits for the first time the current artworks of Kristian Schuller in their rooms at Brunnenstrasse 161. He has further developed his distinctive visual language in joint work with his wife Peggy, focusing in particular on the interplay of light and shadow.
One senses in his paintings the fascination of the eternal "Cherchez la femme".
Growing up in Romanian communism, Kristian's aversion to the ubiquitous and very dusty gray in gray at the time manifested itself as a child. Colors and light have fascinated him ever since, as have the people who react to this gray with wit, humor, and improvisation.
Visitors to the exhibition can expect Schuller's typical visually powerful color worlds, but this time he approaches his subject with particular care, creating something mystical through the deliberate use of blur, the interplay of light and dark, and by turning away from sharply drawn portraits, leaving the viewer plenty of room for interpretation.
About this new approach to his photography, he says himself: "I'd rather dream myself into the unknown than have everything presented in the radiant light. The silhouette of a woman is enough to make a whole movie run in my imagination. I have the great fortune to be able to work with wonderful people and their strong personalities are both inspiration and mission for me. It doesn't matter if they are well-known characters like the recently portrayed Cate Blanchett, Penélope Cruz or Lea Seydoux, or if they are unknown, fantastic personalities. Beauty can only work in tandem with character. Everything else is empty to me."
Kristian Schuller came to Germany with his family from Transylvania / Romania at the age of seven. As the son of a dramaturge and director and an art teacher, he grew up in the environment of a theater stage and a wide variety of creative influences. He studied photography with F. C. Gundlach and fashion design with Vivienne Westwood at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Although he ultimately chose a career in photography after graduation, both disciplines continue to shape his artistic identity today. His wife Peggy is an art director and fashion designer who works with Kristian as a team. They met in the class of Vivienne Westwood, with whom Peggy also studied. Her designs and creative input play an important role in his work. After years in Paris and New York, Kristian Schuller has returned to Berlin with his family.
