Der Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) würdigt seit 1980 weltweit herausragende Fotograf*innen. Benannt nach dem Erfinder der Leica, geht der LOBA auf dessen bahnbrechende Arbeit mit dem Prototyp der Ur-Leica ab 1914 zurück. Das Nominierungsgremium des Awards, bestehend aus einer fünfköpfigen internationalen Jury von Fotografie-Expert*innen, wählt jährlich zwei Preisträger sowie zwölf Shortlist-Nominierte aus.
Einzige Voraussetzung für die Nominierung ist, dass es sich um dokumentarische oder konzeptionellkünstlerische Arbeiten handelt, die sich mit dem Verhältnis des Menschen zu seiner Umwelt auseinandersetzen. Diese humanistische Konstante begleitet den LOBA-Wettbewerb seit seiner ersten Ausschreibung im Jahr 1979.
Er zählt zu den bedeutendsten und höchstdotierten Fotopreisen der Welt und wurde 2023 bereits zum 43. Mal von der Leica Camera AG verliehen.
Aus einer Vielzahl von Teilnehmerinnen der letzten Jahre fiel unsere Wahl auf vier herausragende Serien. Jede Fotografin erzählt mit beeindruckender visueller Bildsprache eine bewegende Geschichte, die sie persönlich berührt und fesselt, dabei gekonnt und einfühlsam fotografisch in Szene gesetzt.
Depuis 1980, le Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) rend hommage à des photographes* exceptionnels dans le monde entier. Nommé d'après l'inventeur du Leica, le LOBA se réfère à son travail révolutionnaire avec le prototype du Leica original à partir de 1914. Le comité de nomination du prix, composé d'un jury international de cinq experts en photographie*, sélectionne chaque année deux lauréats et douze nominés sur liste restreinte.
La seule condition pour être nominé est qu'il s'agisse d'œuvres documentaires ou d'art conceptuel qui traitent de la relation de l'homme avec son environnement. Cette constante humaniste accompagne le concours LOBA depuis sa première mise au concours en 1979.
Il compte parmi les prix de photographie les plus importants et les mieux dotés au monde et a été décerné pour la 43e fois en 2023 par Leica Camera AG.
Parmi les nombreuses participantes de ces dernières années, notre choix s'est porté sur quatre séries exceptionnelles. Chaque photographe raconte, avec un langage visuel impressionnant, une histoire émouvante qui la touche personnellement et la captive, tout en étant mise en scène de manière habile et sensible par la photographie.
Il Premio Leica Oskar Barnack (LOBA) premia fotografi eccellenti in tutto il mondo dal 1980. Il LOBA, che prende il nome dall'inventore della Leica, risale al suo lavoro innovativo con il prototipo della Leica originale del 1914. Il comitato di nomina del premio, composto da una giuria internazionale di cinque membri esperti di fotografia, seleziona ogni anno due vincitori e dodici candidati.

The Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) has been honoring outstanding photographers worldwide since 1980. Named after the inventor of the Leica, the LOBA goes back to his groundbreaking work with the prototype of the original Leica from 1914. The award's nomination committee, consisting of a five-member international jury of photography experts, selects two award winners and twelve shortlist nominees each year.
The only requirement for nomination is that the work must be documentary or conceptual art that deals with the relationship between people and their environment. This humanistic constant has accompanied the LOBA competition since it was first announced in 1979.
It is one of the most important and most highly endowed photography prizes in the world and was awarded by Leica Camera AG for the 43rd time in 2023.
From a large number of participants in recent years, we chose four outstanding series. Each photographer tells a moving story with impressive visual imagery that touches and captivates them personally, skillfully and sensitively staged photographically.
