Wir trauern um unseren hochgeschätzten und liebenswerten Künstler, den amerikanischen Fotografen Elliott Erwitt, der in der Nacht vom 29. auf den 30. November 2023 im Alter von 95 Jahren friedlich zu Hause im Kreise seiner Familie gestorben ist.
Viele Motive der Fotografenlegende Elliott Erwitt sind als Bildikonen fest im fotografischen Kanon verankert und sein unvergleichlicher Bildhumor ist weltweit geschätzt.
„Farbe ist beschreibend. Schwarzweiß ist interpretierend.“, so der Fotograf in seinen eigenen Worten. Elliott Erwitt arbeitete zweigleisig. Zum einen fotografierte er in Farbe vornehmlich für die Auftragsfotografie und für die Werbung und zum anderen widmete er sich in seiner Freizeit seinem Hobby, dem zwanglosen Umherstreifen mit seiner Leica. Die so entstandenen Schwarzweißfotografien sind die, für die er heute weltweit berühmt ist.
„Ganz egal, ob es sich um Weltenlenker, Hollywoodstars, ganz normale Menschen oder kesse Showgirls handelt – die Motive bringen die Erwitt eigene, trockene und eklektische Sensibilität zum Ausdruck. Elliott lebte ein pulsierendes und erfülltes Leben und verkörperte Anmut und Charme in einer Weise, die wirklich bemerkenswert war. Seine ansteckende Lebensfreude und unerschütterliche Positivität hinterließen bei allen, die ihn kannten, einen unauslöschlichen Eindruck. Sein unermüdliches Streben nach Schönheit in jedem Augenblick war geradezu inspirierend. Trotz seines außergewöhnlichen Talents blieb er bodenständig und bescheiden - eine Verkörperung seines wahren Charakters. Sein Werk ist ein Zeugnis seiner Lebensphilosophie und sein Andenken wird für immer einen besonderen Platz in unseren Herzen einnehmen.
Nous pleurons la disparition de notre artiste hautement estimé et attachant, le photographe américain Elliott Erwitt, qui s'est éteint paisiblement chez lui, entouré de sa famille, dans la nuit du 29 au 30 novembre 2023, à l'âge de 95 ans.
De nombreux motifs du photographe légendaire Elliott Erwitt sont solidement ancrés dans le canon photographique en tant qu'icônes picturales et son humour visuel incomparable est apprécié dans le monde entier.
"La couleur est descriptive. Le noir et blanc est interprétatif", selon les propres mots du photographe. Elliott Erwitt travaillait de deux manières. D'une part, il photographiait en couleur principalement pour la photographie de commande et la publicité et, d'autre part, il consacrait son temps libre à son hobby, la déambulation informelle avec son Leica. We mourn the loss of our highly esteemed and endearing artist, the American photographer Elliott Erwitt, who died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on the night of November 29-30, 2023 at the age of 95.
Many of legendary photographer Elliott Erwitt's iconic images are firmly anchored in the photographic canon and his incomparable visual humor is appreciated worldwide.
"Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive," said the photographer in his own words. Elliott Erwitt worked in two ways. On the one hand, he photographed in color primarily for commissioned photography and for advertising and, on the other, he devoted his free time to his hobby, casually roaming around with his Leica. The resulting black and white photographs are the ones for which he is famous worldwide today.
"Whether they are world leaders, Hollywood stars, ordinary people or saucy showgirls, the subjects express Erwitt's own dry and eclectic sensibility.
