Die Gruppenausstellung Exposure bildet den Auftakt des kuratorischen Projekts Fields of Focus, das fotografische Praxen in der zeitgenössischen Kunst in ihrem jeweiligen gesellschaftlichen und politischen Kontext untersucht. Als Ausgangspunkt dienen die Begriffe Belichtung, Reproduktion und Transfer, die neben ihrer technischen Bedeutung innerhalb der Fotografie bestimmte, gegenwärtig relevante Diskursfelder eröffnen, wie etwa Auseinandersetzungen um Sichtbarkeit und Verletzbarkeit, den (umkämpften) Bereich der Reproduktionsarbeit oder Fragen der Wissensproduktion und -übertragung in der visuellen Kultur.
Die Doppeldeutigkeit des englischen Begriffs exposure, der nicht nur den fotografischen Belichtungsprozess, sondern auch das Bloßstellen von Körpern oder Lebensumständen beschreibt, bildet den Ausgangspunkt der gleichnamigen Ausstellung. Die formal sehr unterschiedlichen Arbeiten verbindet die Motivation der Künstler*innen, die eigene Situiertheit und die Eingebundenheit in (menschliche und nicht-menschliche) Beziehungsgefüge sichtbar zu machen und Wirklichkeitsbezüge im Indexmedium der Fotografie zu reflektieren.
Die Thematisierung der Belichtung als eine der Grundbedingungen der Fotografie ist auch als Rückbesinnung auf die ursprünglichen Parameter des Mediums zu verstehen: Wie können subjektive Bildsprachen in einer postdigitalen Produktions- und Zirkulationssphäre bestehen? Wie lassen sich gegenwärtige künstlerische Fotopraxen in diesem Diskurs verorten? Die in der Ausstellung präsentierten Arbeiten zeichnen sich durch persönliche Zugänge aus, die mit formal experimentellen Verfahrensweisen und medienreflexiven Überlegungen verbunden werden. Serien unterschiedlicher Generationen von Künstler*innen werden miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt, wodurch Parallelen und Kontinuitäten in der Praxis und Haltung erkennbar werden.
Das Ausstellungsprojekt ist in zwei Teile gegliedert. Der erste Teil mit dem Titel Exposure eröffnet am 15. September 2023. Für den zweiten Teil, Double Exposure, der am 24. November 2023 eröffnet, wird die bestehende Ausstellung um weitere Positionen ergänzt, die in Analogie zum Verfahren der fotografischen Doppelbelichtung Bereiche der ersten Ausstellung überlagern und so als Kommentar und Erweiterung dieser gelesen werden können.

L'exposition de groupe Exposure marque le début du projet curatorial Fields of Focus, qui examine les pratiques photographiques dans l'art contemporain dans leur contexte social et politique respectif. Les notions d'exposition, de reproduction et de transfert servent de point de départ. Outre leur signification technique au sein de la photographie, elles ouvrent certains champs de discours pertinents à l'heure actuelle, comme les débats sur la visibilité et la vulnérabilité, le domaine (contesté) du travail de reproduction ou les questions de production et de transmission du savoir dans la culture visuelle.
L'ambiguïté du terme anglais exposure, qui ne décrit pas seulement le processus d'exposition photographique, mais aussi la mise à nu de corps ou de conditions de vie, constitue le point de départ de l'exposition du même nom. Les travaux, très différents sur le plan formel, sont liés par la motivation des artistes* à rendre visible leur propre situation et leur intégration dans des structures relationnelles (humaines et non humaines) et à réfléchir aux rapports à la réalité par le biais du média indexé qu'est la photographie.
La thématisation de l'exposition comme l'une des conditions de base de la photographie doit également être comprise comme un retour aux paramètres originaux du médium : Comment les langages visuels subjectifs peuvent-ils exister dans une sphère de production et de circulation post-numérique ? Comment les pratiques artistiques actuelles de la photographie peuvent-elles être situées dans ce discours ? Les travaux présentés dans l'exposition se caractérisent par des approches personnelles, associées à des procédés formellement expérimentaux et à des réflexions sur les médias. Des séries de différentes générations d'artistes* sont mises en relation, ce qui permet d'identifier des parallèles et des continuités dans la pratique et l'attitude.
Le projet d'exposition est divisé en deux parties. La première partie, intitulée Exposure, ouvrira le 15 septembre 2023. Pour la deuxième partie, Double Exposure, qui ouvrira le 24 novembre 2023, l'exposition existante sera complétée par d'autres positions qui, par analogie avec le procédé de la double exposition photographique, superposeront des zones de la première exposition et pourront ainsi être lues comme un commentaire et une extension de celle-ci.

La mostra collettiva Exposure segna l'inizio del progetto curatoriale Fields of Focus, che esamina le pratiche fotografiche nell'arte contemporanea nei rispettivi contesti sociali e politici. I concetti di esposizione, riproduzione e trasferimento fungono da punto di partenza e, oltre al loro significato tecnico all'interno della fotografia, aprono alcuni campi di discorso attualmente rilevanti, come le dispute sulla visibilità e la vulnerabilità, il campo (contestato) del lavoro di riproduzione o le questioni relative alla produzione e al trasferimento di conoscenza nella cultura visiva.
L'ambiguità del termine inglese exposure, che descrive non solo il processo di esposizione fotografica ma anche l'esposizione di corpi o condizioni di vita, costituisce il punto di partenza dell'omonima mostra. Le opere, formalmente molto diverse tra loro, sono accomunate dalla motivazione degli artisti a rendere visibile la propria collocazione e integrazione nelle strutture di relazione (umane e non umane) e a riflettere sui riferimenti alla realtà nel mezzo indicizzato della fotografia.
La tematizzazione dell'esposizione come una delle condizioni di base della fotografia va intesa anche come un ritorno ai parametri originari del mezzo: Come possono esistere linguaggi visivi soggettivi in una sfera di produzione e circolazione post-digitale? Come si possono collocare le attuali pratiche artistiche fotografiche in questo discorso? Le opere presentate in mostra sono caratterizzate da approcci personali che si combinano con procedure formalmente sperimentali e considerazioni riflessive sui media. Le serie di diverse generazioni di artisti sono messe in relazione tra loro, rivelando parallelismi e continuità nella pratica e nell'atteggiamento.
Il progetto espositivo è diviso in due parti. La prima parte, intitolata Exposure, aprirà il 15 settembre 2023. Per la seconda parte, Double Exposure, che aprirà il 24 novembre 2023, la mostra esistente sarà integrata da ulteriori posizioni che, in analogia al processo di doppia esposizione fotografica, si sovrapporranno ad aree della prima mostra e potranno quindi essere lette come un commento e un'estensione della stessa.

The group exhibition Exposure marks the beginning of the curatorial project Fields of Focus, which investigates photographic practices in contemporary art in their respective social and political contexts. The concepts of exposure, reproduction, and transfer serve as a point of departure, which, in addition to their technical significance within photography, open up certain currently relevant fields of discourse, such as disputes over visibility and vulnerability, the (contested) field of reproductive labor, or questions of knowledge production and transfer in visual culture.
The ambiguity of the English term exposure, which describes not only the photographic exposure process but also the exposure of bodies or life circumstances, forms the starting point of the exhibition of the same name. The formally very different works are united by the artists' motivation to make visible their own situatedness and their integration into (human and non-human) relational structures and to reflect on references to reality in the index medium of photography.
The thematization of exposure as one of the basic conditions of photography is also to be understood as a return to the original parameters of the medium: How can subjective visual languages exist in a post-digital sphere of production and circulation? How can contemporary artistic photographic practices be located within this discourse? The works presented in the exhibition are characterized by personal approaches that are combined with formally experimental procedures and media-reflexive considerations. Series from different generations of artists are set in relation to each other, revealing parallels and continuities in practice and attitude.
The exhibition project is divided into two parts. The first part, entitled Exposure, opens on September 15, 2023. For the second part, Double Exposure, which opens on November 24, 2023, the existing exhibition will be supplemented by additional positions that, in analogy to the process of photographic double exposure, overlay areas of the first exhibition and can thus be read as a commentary on and extension of it.
