Evelyn Richter. Ein Fotografinnenleben

In der Ausstellung werden neben Werk und Schaffen der Künstlerin, auch die Netzwerke und das künstlerische Umfeld vorgestellt. Das erste Mal überhaupt wird das künstlerische Œuvre der Fotografin Eva Wagner-Zimmermann (1928–2015), einer engen Freundin und langjährigen Wegbegleiterin von Evelyn Richter, präsentiert. Sie studierte wie Richter und Ursula Arnold an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. Nach ihrem Weggang von der HGB 1954 und ihrem Umzug nach Westdeutschland heiratete Eva Wagner 1957 den Physiker Wolfhart Zimmermann. Sie begleitete ihren Mann häufig auf seinen Auslandsreisen. Wenn möglich, fotografierte sie den Alltag auf der Straße – in Mexiko, Paris und New York. Ergänzt wird der Freundinnenkreis durch die in Berlin lebende Bildhauerin Christa Sammler (*1932).
Die Ausstellung gliedert sich räumlich und inhaltlich in zwei Sektionen. In einem Ausstellungsteil im dritten Obergeschoss, werden in drei Räumen Werke der vier Freundinnen Ursula Arnold, Evelyn Richter, Christa Sammler und Eva Wagner-Zimmermann präsentiert. Ihre unterschiedlichen Lebenswege werden aufgearbeitet und kontextualisiert – auch, um sich der Frage zu nähern, wie Frauen ihrer Generation als Künstlerinnen tätig werden konnten.
Ein zweiter Ausstellungsteil im Untergeschoss legt den Fokus auf Evelyn Richter als Fotobuchkünstlerin. Das Fotobuch bot Richter die ideale Voraussetzung, ihr Bildkonzept darzulegen. Die in sich geschlossene Buchform ermöglichte die Festlegung einer stringent durchkomponierten Folge und die Entwicklung einer narrativen Bildstruktur. Ihr vollendetes Buch über Paul Dessau und das Sachbuch Entwicklungswunder Mensch werden in Form von Layouts, Probeabzügen und Porträtfotografien vorgestellt. Außerdem ist erstmals ein nicht realisiertes Buchprojekt zum Thema „Frauen in der DDR“ zu sehen.
Die Ausstellung ist eine Kooperation mit dem Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf und dem Evelyn Richter Archiv der Ostdeutschen Sparkassenstiftung im MdbK. Sie wird von der Ostdeutschen Sparkassenstiftung gemeinsam mit der Sparkasse Leipzig und der BMW Group gefördert.
L'exposition présente non seulement l'œuvre et le travail de l'artiste, mais aussi ses réseaux et son environnement artistique. C'est la toute première fois que l'œuvre artistique de la photographe Eva Wagner-Zimmermann (1928-2015), une amie proche et une compagne de longue date d'Evelyn Richter, est présentée. Comme Richter et Ursula Arnold, elle a étudié à la Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst de Leipzig. Après avoir quitté la HGB en 1954 et s'être installée en Allemagne de l'Ouest, Eva Wagner a épousé le physicien Wolfhart Zimmermann en 1957. Elle accompagnait souvent son mari lors de ses voyages à l'étranger. Lorsque cela était possible, elle photographiait le quotidien dans la rue - au Mexique, à Paris et à New York. Le cercle d'amies est complété par la sculptrice Christa Sammler (*1932), qui vit à Berlin.
L'exposition se divise en deux sections, tant au niveau de l'espace que du contenu. Dans une partie de l'exposition au troisième étage, les œuvres des quatre amies Ursula Arnold, Evelyn Richter, Christa Sammler et Eva Wagner-Zimmermann sont présentées dans trois salles. Leurs différents parcours de vie sont retracés et contextualisés - notamment pour s'approcher de la question de savoir comment des femmes de leur génération ont pu devenir des artistes.
Une deuxième partie de l'exposition au sous-sol met l'accent sur Evelyn Richter en tant qu'artiste de livres de photos. Le livre de photos offrait à Richter les conditions idéales pour exposer son concept d'image. La forme fermée du livre lui a permis de définir une séquence rigoureusement composée et de développer une structure d'image narrative. Son livre achevé sur Paul Dessau et l'ouvrage spécialisé Entwicklungswunder Mensch sont présentés sous forme de mises en page, d'épreuves et de photographies de portraits. En outre, un projet de livre non réalisé sur le thème "Les femmes en RDA" sera présenté pour la première fois.
L'exposition est le fruit d'une coopération avec le Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf et les archives Evelyn Richter de la Fondation des caisses d'épargne d'Allemagne de l'Est au MdbK. Elle est soutenue par la Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung en collaboration avec la Sparkasse Leipzig et le BMW Group.
Oltre al lavoro e all'opera dell'artista, la mostra presenta anche le sue reti e il suo ambiente artistico. L'opera artistica della fotografa Eva Wagner-Zimmermann (1928-2015), amica intima e compagna di lunga data di Evelyn Richter, viene presentata per la prima volta in assoluto. Come Richter e Ursula Arnold, ha studiato all'Accademia di Arti Visive di Lipsia. Dopo aver lasciato l'HGB nel 1954 ed essersi trasferita nella Germania Ovest, Eva Wagner sposò il fisico Wolfhart Zimmermann nel 1957. Spesso accompagnava il marito nei suoi viaggi all'estero. Quando possibile, fotografa la vita quotidiana per strada, in Messico, a Parigi e a New York. La cerchia di amici è completata dalla scultrice berlinese Christa Sammler (*1932).
La mostra è divisa in due sezioni in termini di spazio e contenuto. In una sezione espositiva al terzo piano, le opere delle quattro amiche Ursula Arnold, Evelyn Richter, Christa Sammler ed Eva Wagner-Zimmermann sono presentate in tre sale. I loro diversi percorsi di vita sono esplorati e contestualizzati, anche per affrontare la questione di come le donne della loro generazione abbiano potuto lavorare come artiste.
Una seconda parte della mostra nel seminterrato si concentra su Evelyn Richter come artista di libri fotografici. Il libro fotografico ha offerto alla Richter l'opportunità ideale per presentare il suo concetto visivo. La forma autonoma del libro ha permesso di definire una sequenza rigorosamente composta e di sviluppare una struttura narrativa delle immagini. Il libro completato su Paul Dessau e il libro di saggistica Entwicklungswunder Mensch sono presentati sotto forma di layout, prove di stampa e ritratti fotografici. Inoltre, sarà esposto per la prima volta un progetto di libro non realizzato sul tema "Donne nella DDR".
La mostra è realizzata in collaborazione con il Kunstpalast di Düsseldorf e l'Archivio Evelyn Richter della Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung presso la MdbK. È sponsorizzata dalla Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung insieme alla Sparkasse Leipzig e al BMW Group.
In addition to the artist's work and creativity, the exhibition will present her networks and artistic environment. For the first time ever, the artistic oeuvre of the photographer Eva Wagner-Zimmermann (1928–2015) will be presented, a close friend and long-time companion of Evelyn Richter. Like Richter and Ursula Arnold, she studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig (HGB). After leaving the HGB in 1954 and moving to West Germany, Eva Wagner married the physicist Wolfhart Zimmermann in 1957. She often accompanied her husband on his trips abroad. Whenever possible, she photographed everyday life on the street – in Mexico, Paris and New York. The circle of friends is completed by the Berlin-based sculptor Christa Sammler (*1932).
The exhibition is divided into two sections in terms of content and space. On the third floor, works by the four friends Ursula Arnold, Evelyn Richter, Christa Sammler and Eva Wagner-Zimmermann are presented in three rooms. Their different life journeys are explored and put in context – also in order to approach the question of how women of their generation were able to become active as artists.
A second part of the exhibition in the basement focuses on Evelyn Richter as a photobook artist. The photobook offered Richter the ideal basis to present her picture concept. The book as a self-contained form enabled her to define a stringently composed series and to develop a narrative picture structure. Her completed book on Paul Dessau and the non-fiction book Entwicklungswunder Mensch will be presented in the form of layouts, proofs and portrait photographs. In addition, an unrealized book project on the subject of "Women in the GDR" will be on display for the first time., both from 1959, which have thus far received little attention. Unrealized book projects on the topics of "Women in the GDR" and "Library Buildings in the GDR" are on display.
