Die Ausstellung stellt neue Fotoarbeiten und wichtige Werkgruppen von Zeichnungen des niederländischen Künstlers Marcel van Eeden (*1965 in Den Haag, lebt in Den Haag, Karlsruhe und Zürich) vor. Sie stellt den Auftakt zum Ausstellungsprogramm des 40. Gründungs-Jubiläums des Museums für Photographie Braunschweig dar und ist erstmals eine Kooperation mit dem Mönchehaus Museum Goslar. Auch dort werden unter dem selben Titel weitere Arbeiten von Marcel van Eeden gezeigt.
Der Titel der Ausstellung „Der heimliche Kaiser“ bezieht sich auf die Auseinandersetzung des Künstlers mit Julius Langbehn (1851-1907), einem völkisch-national denkenden Antisemiten. Dessen Schrift „Rembrandt als Erzieher“ (Erstauflage 1890) ist der Titel entnommen. Sie wurde zum Bestseller und bis in die 1960er Jahre rezipiert. Die künstlerische Interpretation von Geschichte ist im Werk van Eedens ein konstantes, künstlerisch-konzeptuelles Thema.
„Der heimliche Kaiser“ ist nicht nur Ausstellungstitel, sondern auch der Titel einer neuen, für Braunschweig und Goslar produzierten Serie von Gummidrucken. In Aufnahmen von Bauten und Orten u. a. in Braunschweig, Goslar, Den Haag und Potsdam verweist van Eeden auf kritische Aspekte der deutschen und auch niederländischen Geschichte und stellt Fragen an das Heute, vor dem Hintergrund des Erstarkens rechter und antisemitischer Kräfte in vielen Ländern.
2023 erhielt Marcel van Eeden den Hans-Thoma-Preis, Staatspreis des Landes Baden-Württemberg. Im Kontext des Preises begann seine Recherche zu Julius Langbehn und dessen völkischer Gesinnung. Sie erlangte u. a. in den Lehrinhalten der Nationalsozialisten an der Akademie für Jugendführung in Braunschweig eigene Bedeutung. Motive der Akademie sind ebenfalls Teil der Ausstellung.
L'exposition transmet de nouveaux travaux photographiques et d'importants groupes de dessins de l'artiste néerlandais Marcel van Eeden (né en 1965 à La Haye, vit à La Haye, Karlsruhe et Zurich). Elle transmet le programme d'exposition du 40e anniversaire de la fondation du Museum für Photographie Braunschweig et constitue pour la première fois une coopération avec le Mönchehaus Museum de Goslar. Là aussi, d'autres travaux de Marcel van Eeden seront présentés sous le même titre.
Le titre de l'exposition "Der heimliche Kaiser" (L'empereur secret) fait référence à la confrontation de l'artiste avec Julius Langbehn (1851-1907), un antisémite aux idées nationalistes et völkisch. Le titre est tiré de son ouvrage "Rembrandt als Erzieher" (première édition en 1890). Il est devenu un best-seller et a été reçu jusque dans les années 1960. L'interprétation artistique de l'histoire est un thème artistique et conceptuel constant dans l'œuvre de van Eeden.
"L'empereur secret" n'est pas seulement le titre de l'exposition, mais aussi celui d'une nouvelle série d'impressions sur caoutchouc produite pour Brunswick et Goslar. En photographiant des bâtiments et des lieux, notamment à Brunswick, Goslar, La Haye et Potsdam, van Eeden fait référence à des aspects critiques de l'histoire allemande, mais aussi néerlandaise, et transmet des questions sur le présent, dans le contexte de la montée des forces de droite et antisémites dans de nombreux pays.
En 2023, Marcel van Eeden a reçu le prix Hans Thoma, prix d'État du Land de Bade-Wurtemberg. C'est dans le contexte de ce prix qu'a débuté sa recherche sur Julius Langbehn et ses convictions völkisch. Vous avez notamment acquis une importance propre dans les contenus d'enseignement des nationaux-socialistes à l'Académie pour la direction de la jeunesse à Brunswick. Des motifs de l'académie font également partie de l'exposition.
La mostra presenta nuove opere fotografiche e importanti gruppi di disegni dell'artista olandese Marcel van Eeden (*1965 a L'Aia, vive a L'Aia, Karlsruhe e Zurigo). La mostra segna l'inizio del programma espositivo per il 40° anniversario della fondazione del Museum für Photographie Braunschweig e rappresenta la prima collaborazione con il Mönchehaus Museum Goslar. Nelle immagini di edifici e luoghi di Braunschweig, Goslar, L'Aia e Potsdam, tra gli altri, van Eeden fa riferimento ad aspetti critici della storia tedesca e olandese e pone domande sul presente, sullo sfondo dell'ascesa delle forze di destra e antisemite in molti Paesi.
Nel 2023, Marcel van Eeden ha ricevuto il Premio Hans Thoma, il premio statale del Baden-Württemberg. La sua ricerca su Julius Langbehn e le sue convinzioni völkisch è iniziata nel contesto del premio. Tra l'altro, ha acquisito importanza nel contenuto dell'insegnamento dei nazionalsocialisti presso l'Accademia per la leadership giovanile di Braunschweig. The artistic interpretation of history is a constant, artistic-conceptual theme in van Eeden‘s work. „The Secret Emperor“ is not only the title of the exhibition, but also the title of a new series of rubber prints produced for Braunschweig and Goslar.
In photographs of buildings and places in Braunschweig, Goslar, The Hague and Potsdam, among others, van Eeden refers to critical aspects of German and Dutch history and poses questions about today, against the background of the strengthening of rightwing and anti-Semitic forces in many countries.
2023 Marcel van Eeden received the Hans Thoma Prize, State Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg. His research into Julius Langbehn and his nationalist views began in the context of the prize. Among other things, it gained its own significance in the teaching content of the National Socialists at the Academy for Youth Leadership in Braunschweig. Motifs from the Academy are also part of the exhibition.
