Dean West wurde 1983 in Australien geboren und studierte am renommierten Queensland College of Art. Geprägt von der Vielfalt der Bildenden Kunst, haben ihn vor allem das Oeuvre von Stan Douglas und Jeff Wall sowie David Hockney und Edward Hopper beeinflusst. Der Künstler hat zugleich eine eigene Bildsprache entwickelt und definiert: präzise choreografierte Szenen, die durch den bewussten Einsatz von Symmetrie und idealer Lichtwirkung einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert besitzen und durch einen streng komponierten Bildaufbau wirken. West versteht die Fotografie als künstlerische Epoche und als ein Medium der zeitgenössischen Kommunikation, mit dem er es vermag, in technischer und ätherischer Perfektion seine künstlerische Vision umzusetzen.
Dean West arbeitet seriell und befasst sich in seiner Fotografie mit scheinbar alltäglichen Ereignissen, Charakterstudien sowie atmosphärischen Landschaften, die oftmals über eine natürliche Realität hinausgehen und in komplexe Narrationen münden. Der Künstler reflektiert in seinen Werken ergreifend über gesellschaftliche Themen, Kulturen und soziale Beziehungen. Diese beschreibt West mittels zunächst surreal schön anmutender Szenerien, deren vielschichtige Inhalte sich für den Betrachter sukzessive enthüllen.
Die Arbeiten des vielfach ausgezeichenten Künstlers werden weltweit in bedeutenden Museen und Kunstinstitutionen ausgestellt – u. a. im Columbus Museum of Art (2012), im Discovery Times Square Museum in New York City (2014), im Faneuil Hall Museum in Boston (2015) sowie im Pariser Expo Porte De Versailles (2015). L'artiste a en même temps développé et défini son propre langage visuel : des scènes chorégraphiées avec précision, qui possèdent une grande valeur de reconnaissance grâce à l'utilisation consciente de la symétrie et de l'effet de lumière idéal, et qui agissent grâce à une construction d'image composée de manière rigoureuse. West considère la photographie comme une époque artistique et un moyen de communication contemporain, grâce auquel il parvient à mettre en œuvre sa vision artistique avec une perfection technique et éthérée.

At the same Time, the artist has developed and defined his own visual language: precisely choreographed scenes that have a high recognition value thanks to the deliberate use of symmetry and ideal lighting effects and are effective due to a strictly composed image structure. West sees photography as an artistic epoch and as a medium of contemporary communication with which he is able to realize his artistic vision with technical and aesthetic perfection.
