Anlässlich des 90. Geburtstags von Hans van Manen präsentiert Erwin Olaf seine neue Fotoserie "Dance in Close-Up", die sowohl die 40-jährige Freundschaft der beiden als auch den bedeutenden Beitrag van Manens zur Welt des Balletts würdigt.
Hans van Manen gilt in der Tat als internationale Tanzlegende. Er begann seine Karriere 1951 als Tänzer in der niederländischen Kompanie von Sonia Gaskell und wurde dann Choreograf, Tänzer und künstlerischer Leiter des Nederlands Dans Theater, wo er mehr als zehn Jahre lang tätig war. Heute ist er ständiger Choreograf des Nationalballetts. Im Laufe seiner Karriere schuf er mehr als 125 Ballette, die von mehr als 50 Kompanien getanzt wurden.
Hans van Manen und Erwin Olaf lernten sich 1983 in Amsterdam während eines Fotoshootings im Haus des Tänzers kennen. Zu dieser Zeit war Hans van Manen bereits ein anerkannter Choreograf und Fotograf. Durch ihn lernte Erwin Olaf viele Künstler aus der Amsterdamer Szene kennen und interessierte sich für die Fotografie und ihre gemeinsame Inspiration für die Arbeit des amerikanischen Fotografen Robert Mapplethorpe Momente aus Hans van Manens ikonischer Choreografie und eingefangene Details. Olaf zeigt uns Körperfragmente, gewölbte Rücken, angespannte Muskeln, gekrümmte Zehen, ausgestreckte Finger, die auf...
" Wie immer bei Olaf schaffen die Bilder verführerische, berauschende Geschichten. Die unglaublich präzise Beleuchtung fügt Schichten von Ton, Schatten und Tiefe hinzu. Aber hier hat er sein Objektiv auf Van Manens Strenge gerichtet - die unverfälschten und zielgerichteten Posen. "
Die Fotos und Videos der Serie werden in der Galerie Rabouan Moussion in der Rue Pastourelle 11 im Marais ausgestellt. Der Galerieraum wurde umgestaltet, um eine neue Atmosphäre zu schaffen und den Besucher durch diese Erfahrung zu führen.
Joost van Krieken und Kameramann Thomas Kist von NTR haben Hans van Manen und Erwin Olaf bei den Dreharbeiten zu Dance in Close-Up begleitet. Das Making-of ist in der Ausstellung zu sehen.
Hannibal Books veröffentlichte den Katalog zu Dance in Close-Up, der die Fotografien von Erwin Olaf sowie Essays von Michael James Gardner und Nina Siegal enthält.
Cette année, à l'occasion du 90e anniversaire de Hans van Manen, Erwin Olaf présente sa nouvelle série de photographies "Dance in Close-Up" qui rend hommage à la fois à leurs 40 années d'amitié et à l'importante contribution de Van Manen au monde du ballet.
En effet, Hans van Manen est considéré comme une légende internationale de la danse. Il a commencé sa carrière en 1951 en tant que danseur dans la compagnie néerlandaise de Sonia Gaskell puis est devenu chorégraphe, danseur et directeur artistique au Nederlands Dans Theater où il a passé plus de dix ans de compagnie aux Pays-Bas. Aujourd'hui, il est chorégraphe résident du Ballet national. Au cours de sa carrière, il a créé plus de 125 ballets qui ont été dansés par plus de 50 compagnies.
Hans van Manen et Erwin Olaf se sont rencontrés en 1983 à Amsterdam lors d'une séance de photos chez le danseur. À cette époque, Hans van Manen était déjà un chorégraphe et un photographe reconnu. Grâce à lui, Erwin Olaf a rencontré de nombreux artistes de la scène amstellodamoise et s'est intéressé à la photographie. Leur inspiration commune pour le travail du photographe américain Robert Mapplethorpe provient de la chorégraphie iconique de Hans van Manen et des détails capturés. Olaf nous montre des fragments de corps, des dos voûtés, des muscles contractés, des orteils pliés, des doigts tendus pointant...
" Comme toujours avec Olaf, les visuels créent des histoires séduisantes et enivrantes. L'éclairage incroyablement précis ajoute des couches de tonalité, d'ombre et de profondeur. Mais ici, il a braqué son objectif sur l'austérité de Van Manen - les poses immaculées et volontaires. "
Les photographies et vidéos de la série sont présentées à la galerie Rabouan Moussion au 11 rue Pastourelle dans le Marais. L'espace de la galerie a été réaménagé pour créer une nouvelle atmosphère et guider le visiteur dans cette expérience.
Joost van Krieken et le cameraman Thomas Kist de NTR ont suivi Hans van Manen et Erwin Olaf pendant le tournage de Dance in Close-Up. Le making-of est inclus dans l'exposition.

" Come sempre con Olaf, le immagini creano storie seducenti e inebrianti. L'illuminazione incredibilmente precisa aggiunge strati di tono, ombre e profondità. Ma in questo caso, l'obiettivo è puntato sull'austerità di Van Manen, sulle pose incontaminate e risolute. "
Le fotografie e i video della serie sono presentati alla galleria Rabouan Moussion, all'11 di rue Pastourelle nel Marais. Lo spazio della galleria è stato ridisegnato per creare una nuova atmosfera e guidare il visitatore in questa esperienza.

This year, for Hans van Manen’s 90th birthday, Erwin Olaf presents his new series of photographs « Dance in Close-Up » which pays tribute both to their 40 years of friendship and to the important contribution of Van Manen to the world of ballet.
Indeed, Hans van Manen is considered an international dance legend. He began his career in 1951 as a dancer in the Dutch company of Sonia Gaskell then became a choreographer, dancer and artistic director at the Nederlands Dans Theater where he spent more than ten years company in the Netherlands. Today, he is resident choreographer for the National Ballet. During his career he created more than 125 ballets which were danced by more than 50 companies.
Hans van Manen and Erwin Olaf met each other in 1983 in Amsterdam during a photoshoot at the dancer’s house. At that time, Hans van Manen was already a recognized choreographer and photographer. Through him Erwin Olaf met many artists from the Amsterdam scene and interest in photography and their common inspiration for the work of the American photographer, Robert Mapplethorpe moments from Hans van Manen’s iconic choreography and captured details. Olaf shows us body fragments, arched backs, contracted muscles, bent toes, outstretched fingers pointing…

The photographs and videos of the series are presented at the Rabouan Moussion gallery at 11 rue Pastourelle in Marais. The gallery space has been redesigned to create a new atmosphere and guide the visitor through this experience.
